“The Peking duck was fabulous and juicy! We got a half, which we were surprised how little it was. We should have had a full. You have to reserve the duck before you get there.

“There’s so many authentic Chinese places in San Francisco, but it’s hard to find the American-style Chinese food I grew up with in suburban Georgia. I finally found it here, this place really hits home for me. The general tso’s chicken is delicious, and so is the hot and sour soup. They have a great value lunch special, it’s $15 for the whole combo including rice, soup, and egg roll.

If you’ve been looking for good American style Chinese food in San Francisco, this is the best I have found yet. I will definitely be coming back!“

The best jianbing I've had outside of China. Crispy and not too salty. My wife said it's authentic Tianjin style.

The soy milk was amazing! Very smooth and slightly sweet even though it wasn't sweetened. No burnt taste.

“Such a special gem of a place! Perfect for group dinners too (make reservations!)- we celebrated the lunar new year with a vegan Chinese new year dinner here in their cozy dining room with such good vibes, and unique authentic dishes like lotus root and lychee in the sweet & sour seitan dish 🤯

It’s big enough to have a large group table (we had 12) and quiet enough to feel like you’re all celebrating together. This is very hard to find in the bay!

“Ben Ben Hot Pot was the coziest hot spot experience I've had. I ordered the ox tail broth. It came with tender oxtail meat. There was a generous variety of ingredients to add and open access to tea and drinks. Our waitress knew just when to offer more broth and meats. The music was calm and the ascetic was clean and cozy. “This is my first time trying this place. I arrived at 10 and it wasn't that busy yet. I ordered 4 different types or rice rolls, preserved duck egg congee and soy milk to go for $45. I tried one of the rice rolls and the soy mil before leaving. I enjoyed the food so much! I like how they have a small sauce station where you can add different sauces and sesame seeds.

I can eat rice rolls several times a week. Looks like this will be one of our regular spots!“

“OK, this is a special place with stellar flavors like... chongqing street noodles with or without broth (I recommend the dry version), cold pig ear with garlic--slight crunch perfectly delicate, cold wood ear mushroom with spicy oil sauce--bright and fresh. Noodles obviously fresh and house made, rare. Chill al fresco outdoor space a half block from the Oakland Convention Center. And really a ROBOT food runner that whistles while it works. They have a prepay policy when ordering at the table outside, which I did not love, but I understand why. Don't let that dissuade you, you are in for a treat!“

My usual order is the Number 1 without kidney, with the soup served on the side. I also always add fish cake as an appetizer. The total cost for two regular dishes plus one appetizer comes to $53.75.

I started with the dumpling soup, which was full of flavor, and then went for the spicy chicken noodles. The Shan Dong chicken was another highlight. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the breading-to-chicken ratio is perfect—every bite has that satisfying crunch. The combination of fresh noodles, flavorful dumplings, and crispy chicken makes this place so worth it. It’s easy to see why it’s quickly become one of my favorites. “Got a solid spread of things a la carte and really had no misses. I've literally been eating Chinese food my whole life and it was a nice balance between familiar and new (vs. classics on fancy plating or fusion that loses its roots entirely).

We thought the golden coin and firecracker shrimp were the most unique starters, but also loved the beef shin and doupi salad. The charsiu pork jowl was our favorite main; perfectly textured bites with freshness from the paired apple and veg.

Don't sleep on the mango sago sorbet -- I've had great mango sago a thousand times and still couldn't stop eating it (pro tip: dip the mango sago sorbet into the salted cream that comes with the nian gao, which we also enjoyed).“
