“I’m touring a condo in Oakland for a client making an offer and I stop for a quick bite at a tiny sandwich place next to the Grand Lake Theater. OMG, Unbelievable sandwiches, smoked meats, homemade pickles, peppers🫑 and memorable pulled pork, etc. I hang out for a few minutes while Jerry makes my Cuban sandwich, and he has me try their smoked bacon, homemade meatballs, and more. Jerry’s the best and I love this place. Can’t wait to tell my client about it!! Check out Modigliani Cafe, next to the Grand Lake Theater. #modigliani #localbusiness #Oakland #localgem #restaurant #sandwich #grandlakedistrict #holeinthewall #localjoint #bayareafoodie #pamparkerproperties #realtor®“

“Awesome new vendor in the kiosk that used to be Bi-Rite in the Civic Center Plaza (pre-pandemic). I've had 4 things here (napolitano, caprese and veggie sandwiches and beet salad) and they've all been fresh and delicious with a generous serving. The bread they use is soft and yummy, not too "bready" with a good bread:fillings ratio. My main critique is the pricing, which -- while in line with SF prices -- isn't going to be accessible to most of the local residents of the TL/SOMA. The gelato pricing starts at $5.99. With a playground right behind the kiosk, it would be nice if the prices were lower so a family of 4 wouldn't have to pay almost $25 to get ice cream on a nice day.“

“The place is very good, as it has very good sandwiches and friendly service. We had the sourdough and the out, nothing to criticize. The sandwiches where finished fast and the service was quick and friendly. When you are hungry, just go to Freddie's, it's the best of the best, even though it's really inconspicuous. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
Vegetarian options: There is a selection of vegetarian sandwiches, wich are all very tasty.“

“I got the special combo ham sandwich without cilantro and jalapeno - but I found a jalapeno in my sandwich. My partner also found jalapeno in #20 grilled pork with lemon grass even it was ordered with no jalapeno. Beside that complaint, the banh mi was really good! The bread is soft and crunchy without hurting the roof of our mouth and it's fully stuffed with the meats and veggies while being affordable!
Although the inside of the shop is clean and organized, the streets is seemingly sketchy and dirty looking so be cautious. It might be hard to find parking.
Otherwise, it's worth to stop by to try!“

“Definitely a 5 stars for me! One of the best breakfast sandwiches we’ve had 👏😋 Loved the pork&turkey sausage in bagel and bacon cheese croissant. Mocha and caramel macchiato were mmm mmm mmm. The vendor was really friendly and accommodating. She suggested for a croissant bread for my mom so it will be easier to eat(softer). Thank you ma’am 😊
Too bad we weren’t able to visit again coz it’s a bit far from our hotel. This is a highly recommended hidden gem (literally) near cable car turnover powell. You have to go down to locate it.“

“*note* The Tuna sandwich is no longer on the menu
I try not to let price be a factor in my reviews of restaurants because San Francisco has such a high cost of living… typically if the food is expensive, that means that 1. It’s quality 2. They pay their employees well 3. The cost of rent is probably more than you could ever imagine.
Today we got the Turkey sandwich with tomato basil soup, they use Diestel turkey which has always been one of my favorite organic, free range farms. The soup was rich and full of flavor… I liked the consistency, it wasn’t too creamy and still had a dark red flavor that lets you know the tomatoes are fresh and juicy (they also put tomatoes on the skirt steak sandwich which proved to be plump and juicy.) The turkey sandwich was simple in nature, I substituted pepper jack cheese for the goat cheese because goat cheese can sometimes over power everything else and I wanted to see how the sandwich would taste in a more traditional turkey sandwich kind of way… the pesto sauce that came on the sandwich was delicious and had more spice than I was expecting, definitely something unique to this restaurant, would probably make a fine dipping sauce for the French fries :)
The other Sandwich we got was the Skirt steak, you may be a bit turned off by this, but I like my skirt steak well done, especially when it’s grilled because the marinade gets caramelized and I personally like tasting the char… that’s what Barbecuing is all about (isn’t it??) the sandwich came out with more fixings than the turkey, primarily the tomato is what set it apart, and the cheese melted nicely due to the hot steak. The steak was mouth watering and tender, it broke down easy with every bite and was cut in nice chunks to prevent pulling out a whole piece and degrading the foundation of the sandwich :P The fries were rather traditional, shoe string and lightly salted, we got bbq sauce on the side that was rich and tangy, with a bit a sweetness to finish off the slight spice.
Overall this was a delicious meal with plenty of food to satisfy two solid eaters appetites, we even had a half a sandwich to take home for left overs. Service was simple, they give you a number and you order at the counter… I will definitely be eating here again, but not as often as I’d like due to the price point, lots of restaurants to try… luckily they have a thriving community around them, so even if people only eat there a couple times a month, they’ll be alright.
Thanks for the delicious food.“

“4-grain loaf was fresh, hearty, sourdough-y, and flavorful. Cinnamon roll was flaky and buttery. Both things I tried felt homemade with care. I’m definitely coming back for the other bread offerings, including the pizzas!“

“OG Miss Tomato (Nosh Cafe & Catering) is awesome! The owner and his team are always incredibly friendly, greeting you with warm smiles as soon as you walk in. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers, which makes every visit feel special. The food is delicious, with a cozy and welcoming ambiance that’s perfect for breakfast or lunch. It’s a spot where both the service and quality shine. Whether grabbing a quick bite or enjoying a meal, you’re always in good hands here.

“This review is just for the Sichuan Hot Chicken which I've eaten twice. Overall it's pretty good, but it's not great, and I really want it to be great. In concept this is a really thoughtful and well-executed sandwich. It has great veggies and really crisp, juicy chicken. It reminds me of what I had in the night markets in Taiwan. The breading is good too, although I feel it could be a bit thicker.
Where it falls short for me is in flavor. The Sichuan spices are there, but they are overpowered by the sheer amount of chili powder and salt that the chicken is breaded in. I was looking for more in the sauce as well - honestly maybe just adding more sauce would accomplish that. If I could get more of that peppercorn flavor, less salt, and more sauce, I think it'd be a 10/10.“

“This place is exactly the spot you want to come to for lunch. The owner is super nice and you can tell it’s got regulars with how he greets everyone in the door. The menu itself is quite vast but he does a good job walking folks through it and running a tight ship.
Sandwich itself was quite tasty. I went for the brisket which was juicy and tender. Certainly will fill you up as well. I would love to come back to this place to try it again next time I’m in town.“

“I know.... They take a hit on atmosphere but let me explain..... This little locally known spot may have the best sandwiches 🥪😜 in the bay! And I'm not kidding. I first came here when I was 15 and nothing has changed, the consistency is overwhelming. The cheese steaks ranged supreme here, real 🍖 meat, not that shaved frozen stuff. You'll see patrons leaving with 4, or 5 this is serious business 😂, They have a pastrami also that I believe will rival any you get in New York, Fry's always nice 👍 to order. Only thing is the dining room hasn't been updated since the 90s , practically same table and chairs. Some people might find it a little rough but for me it's like coming home. Very few businesses have survived in Oakland this long. They even have a News post from the 70s giving thanks to the founder. And yeah it's in a rough neighborhood but to get to the good food that's where you gotta go😂👍 good job guys!! I'll be back on Friday for another, and don't forget the Tiki punch.“

“Webster street sure has changed since Alameda was a Navy town! Places like the Sandwich Board have replaced Navy bars, girly joints and tattoo shops that fronted for other things that go bump-bump!
So, I whipped into the Sandwich Board to see if anything looked the same...it doesn't, but I'll tell you what..The Sandwich Board kicks out a screaming good sandwich! ☆☆☆☆☆“

“The food was very good. Excellent gluten-free bread. It seemed expensive for the size of the sandwich. I was expecting something 1.5-2 times larger given the price. We ate outside in one of the sidewalk booths. It was a bit cold and breezy, not sure if you can eat inside in the wine bar or not, so might want to watch the weather.“

“Looks like a a tall , green , corn chip dipped into a red salsa sauce. It does not have the grace of Flatiron in NY; and hence it relies on reputation of hosting a restaurant, Cafe Zoetrope, frequented by the great film director Coppola ; it’s a building that lives on the fame of another person. It’s a side show but at least it’s not an eye sore.“

“Wow! Just wow the serving are huuuuge (with potus) voice. Visited the places with my buddies yesterday based on recommendations from one of them. The quality and amount of food are just exceedingly high than you would expect from a casual sandwich shop. If you are new to the city and/or hadn’t tried this spot.
Would highly recommend!
Can’t go wrong with chicken steak sandwiche and fries.“

“The BEST sandwich spot in SF. Not only are the sandwiches HUGE and delicious, but the owner is one of a kind. I felt like I was part of the family. All minorities should support this spot. Not whitewashed, not a chain, a real, brown small business. Watched the owner help our homeless neighbors in real time- this business really does support the community however they can. We will be coming back again for sure. Thank you, The Sandwich Place, we WILL be coming back. 100000/10. Not sure how this place isn’t viral yet.“

“This is a good lunch spot for FiDi. Sandwiches are $12.50-$14. Salads are $10-$11. Prices on their website are outdated. My sandwich , the LLB special $12.50 was roast beef, turkey, ham, swiss, provolone on dutch crunch, was alright. The New England Clam Chowder $8.50 was chunky and not filled all the way up. That tasted OK as well. Friendly service for a counter style restaurant. Kitchen was fast taking account they were busy. I was pretty full afterwards.“

“Embarcadero Center Gem: Unwrapping the Delicious Secret of 5th Avenue Deli & Market
I was looking for something new to try when I got hungry, so I asked my colleague for a recommendation. She suggested 5th Avenue Deli & Market, a small, hidden gem tucked away in the Embarcadero Center near the corner of Clay and Drumm streets.
They offer a large selection of sandwiches, non-alcoholic drinks, and chips to accompany their creations. Since I'm not a picky eater, I asked the friendly cashier what their most popular sandwich was. Without hesitation, he declared, "SanFranPsycho!"
This sandwich features honey turkey, bacon, Gouda cheese, garlic butter, pesto, and Cajun mayo, all piled high on your choice of bread. I went with sourdough, gutted out and toasted with everything. While 5th Avenue has no indoor seating available, there are benches outside in the Embarcadero Center. I took it back to the office, and with the first bite, I was in love!
The sandwich was perfect - the bread was fresh and perfectly toasted, the flavors exploded in my mouth, and it was incredibly filling. I'm officially a fan! If you work nearby and have a sandwich craving, check out 5th Avenue Deli & Market. This is one sandwich experience you won't regret!
Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access for Wheelchairs.“

“We were looking for a breakfast place with options that were tasty and reasonably priced. Working Girls was just down the street from our hotel and we made the lucky decision to go here. A nice selection of breakfast items and a lunch menu that was so tempting we came back to pick up lunch for our road trip home. The staff were very friendly and even included a free cookie because we came back. Seems like it a popular place with the local workforce. Menu has some nice healthy options.“
