“I grabbed takeout recently and was quite pleased! I wish I took a photo of the food but the hunger pains were real and I (& baby) just could not wait. I ordered the Longsilog to-go. The sausages were homemade and the garlic rice just absolute perfection. The flavor of the sausages were so delish! They did not have the casing which I was expecting but they sure did not disappoint!! SO DELISH!! I ordered my eggs over-hard which also were cooked fully and safe for me (&baby) to eat. I will have to go back again and try their other foods, but I will definitely be back for their homemade Longanisa sausage again! Thank you to the gal at the front who also hooked it up with the housemade vinegar sauce to go with it!! It was the perfect combination to go with the meal!!“

“This is a very nice and convenient cafe to go to at Centerville Train Station. They serve American and Filipino food here. This is actually my second time coming here and noticed that they have Lamb Tocino, which is quite unheard and probably rarely eaten. The wait was long because there are some issues in the kitchen, but I’ll let that slide. The staff are friendly when people got here and are apologetic due to problems at the backend.I also like how the place is decorated trying to match the theme of trains and other transportations. It is small for a dining area, but it’s worth relaxing and coming here.“

“UPDATE: Had the tosilog again and it was very good like last time so it's good to know they cook consistently. Very impressed with how well they cook the sunnyside-up eggs. Love to pop the eggs over my garlic rice. So it seems the silogs don't come with a dipping vinegar sauce. I asked for one and they gave it to me for free. Talked to the staff and they're super nice. Will come back to try the other items here.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Tosilog was solid. Tocino wasn't overly fatty or lean, and not greasy. Love how they give you two nicely cooked sunnyside eggs. What I didn't like is they forgot to pack the vinegar dipping sauce. Good to check for next time. Will come back again.“

“Tried Pinoy's Place near our house, which offers late night Filipino options. It's run by Kusina Ni Javen Jessel, a cooking duo that has primarily focused on catering in the past (and present, I think). The menu's primarily silog dishes (garlic fried rice with egg, vinegar sauce, and the meat of your choice) with roughly ten to choose from. An incredibly tasty complimentary broth helped us pass the time while our entrees cooked--this is a not a busy spot, so everything is cooked to order.Ben had beef (tapsilog) and I had sausage (longganisilog) - I asked for the spicy option, but I'm pretty sure I got the sweet one instead (still tasty!). Prices are good for quite a fair bit of meat! Definitely add the vinegar sauce to the rice for some extra flavor.Bonus points for a refreshing calamansi juice, too. It's nice to have another option for dining after 10pm, when everything but chains has closed up in the 'burbs. I'm hopeful I can try some of their trademark dishes in the future, like bone marrow tacos and a buko pandan dessert cup. But I think it's definitely a spot where you have to take what you can get at that time of night! ?“

“Actually SO yummy. My friend and I shared the mochiko chicken plate. The mac salad is well seasoned, above your average mac salad from the salad bar. The kale, tomato, and cucumber was drenched in such yummy sauce as well (idk what it was but it had a hint of sweetness which liked) and the star of the show, the CHICKEN. Absolutely glorious. The only thing have had that can realy compare it to is a perfect karage. It is so tender, juicy, and the perfect amount of crispy. The sauce and rice are given in just the right portions to compliment this mouthwatering chicken. The staff was also really kind, adding to the overall welcoming and relaxed mood of the place. The inside is well decorated with some good times playing along with two indoor seating areas. The rest of the seating is outside with these umbrellas for sunny days so it is pretty open to you and your friends to chill and hang out for however long you want. Outside, there is self-served water as well as a bar for drinks but is still family friendly. The place is also overall well kept, being very clean. The vibes of the place were overall good and very enjoyable. The size of this meal is pretty hefty, it is $17 after all. It is so good though could eat up the whole thing myself but probably be on the verge of exploding at the end so would definitely recommend to share with a friend or you could save the rest for later. However, I definitely want to return to try more of their menu.“

“I wanted to grab some food after work and was in the mood for something new. I had passed by Toppings Too before when going to the old coffee shop. The interior is very small maybe sitting 6 or 7 different parties. I ordered the Adobo Chicken with Java Rice for takeout. The food was prepared in less than 20 minutes. The male cashier was very polite and quickly took care of me as I entered the restaurant. The food was very hot and delicious! He warned me to be careful not to spill the sauce. They accommodated my to go order by separating the chicken from the rice with some foil. I was very impressed with the flavor and scarfed most of the dish down quickly after receiving it. The price wasn't bad for the portion and quality of food! I will definitely come back to try some different dishes.“

If you're not Filipino and feeling adventurous, wanting to try this for the first time, you can always start off with the standard bbq meat or hotdogs. “Five stars for the best Filipino broasted fried chicken! I recently came to try pork sinigang and loved theirs!! Not too sour, pork rib soup with veggies. Their lunch menu was so affordable and a good portion! So far I love their fried chicken, pork Sinigang and party tray pancit palabok since they don't make entree, only party size. The only thing was I wished there were shrimp and more tofu, eggs or fried pork skin. Noodles and sauce was super duper yummy tho!! Their business hours are weird with Mon to Wed closed, Thursday, Fri 4-7pm and Sat, Sun from 12-6pm. Even with a given time for party food pick up, I still have to wait 30 mins there :( They hardly pick up their phone so walk in during business hours is probably the best. I love their food except chicken adobo that has an after taste that I'm not fond of.“

“We had a day trip in Oakland and was looking for a Filipino restaurant prior to our departure back to LA. I stumbled across Pistahan and from the yelp reviews I needed to check it out for myself. To my surprise amongst the many Al a carte menu they had a Filipino buffet the day we went. For around $20+. They had a variety of dishes ranging from all type of different proteins (beef, chicken, fish and pork) with all of those staple dishes from Kare-kare, Dinuguan, menudo, pancit, adobo, kaldereta, lumpia , sweet and sour fish and for dessert they had Ginataang bilo bilo and champorado a chocolate rice porridge. Each of the dishes we had were flavorful and tastes homemade. Hands down one of the best Filipino buffets I've been to! The place is clean, with ample seating, located in a strip mall. there is something for everyone. So if you're looking for some Filipino comfort food. Be sure to check this restaurant out.“

Papaya Grill Filipino • $
280 Market Pl, San Ramon - 8.78 miles

“We came in with only 30 minutes to spare, so some food items were unavailable. We ordered sarciadong isda(fish) which is fried milkfish with eggs and tomatoes and binagoongan which is shrimp paste (bagoong) mixed with pork belly and served with tomato (kamatis), mango, and eggplant (talong). Like I said in my previous reviews at other restaurants, I despise pork. But I will make some exceptions, binagoongan "bee-na go-oong-ahn" which was freshly cooked in the kitchen and was DELICIOUS. Pork belly grosses me out, but at least the crispiness and flavor makes up for it. I like the fresh tomato, fresh onion, fresh mango (it's supposed to be green but I think that is harder to find in the USA) is refreshing and adds complexity to the flavor of the salty pork. The eggplant was grilled so it was slightly crisped on the edges. And I ordered rice because bagoong/shrimp paste is very salty. 5/5I also ordered the halo halo. Everyone's halo halo is different and I was raised on Goldilocks halo halo. Sometimes you have super scary artificially colored drinks and sometimes you have something that is simple and classic. The ube ice cream was generous, the pinipig (crispy rice) was authentic and generous, and there was a very thick, caramelly flan. I like fluffy flan, but this one was pretty good. Most halo halos used canned/jared fruits and whatevers and so that was in this one, but it also had the dark beans. I like minimal artificial coloring and this halo halo was enjoyable for me. The serving size was considerable - enough for two Americans or four Filipinos, or three Filipino-Ams! 5/5My mom ordered sarciadong isda(fish). It was a little salty. 3/5Bathrooms were clean, but could be better - the lock confused me. I forgot to turn off the light! Oops. Maybe they can install an artificial light or LED lightbulbs? 4/5Customer service was excellent. The lady was welcoming and kind. We asked if we could stay to eat our food inside or if we had to go outside since they were closing and she said it was OK for us to stay inside. She was very helpful with other customers and worked very fast. The Kitchen also worked very fast so we were able to eat quickly. 5/5The restaurant is in a cute shopping complex with a shared parking lot. Other stores include Andersen Bakery, Cold Stone's, and Trader Joe's. Nearby is the hospital and some large roads, so it is conveniently located. I would definitely recommend this place if you want a small taste of the Philippines that is not obnoxious like Chow King or Goldilocks. This is more like a small Tindahan. They even have a fan mounted on the wall!“
