“Stopped by before a trip to the beach. The staff was very friendly and they had a decent selection of drink and fresh baked goods. To my surprise they had pho, which I shared with my wife. The broth was nothing memorable, and the rice noodles were excellent. A good addition to the herb plate would have been some mint and additional beansprouts.“

They were booked for tasting appointment very fast so make sure you contact them early as they only have appointments available during the week Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays between 1pm and 6pm. Some other places I looked at will charge you for tasting and even though the tasting charge might be deducted from final order, it made me feel much better when there was no cost to start with as wedding was already expensive. The place was a little bit hard to find since it was office-like looking from outside and I thought it was bakery-like. They have parking lot. My husband and I tried so many different favors of cake and they were so delicious. We had a hard time deciding which ones to get because we had more than three favorite. During the appointment, they also showed you what style of cake they offered and its pricing. We went with the basic so there was no add-on cost, but they can custom-make your order if you show them pictures of what you want with additional cost (and trust me the price is fair). We ended up ordering a 3-tier ice in white buttercream cake with 12" white with mango, 9" almond with cappuccino & chocolate mousse, and 6" mocha chip with rosy mauve ribbon around tiers for 100 guests for my wedding. They emailed us a week before the wedding to confirm there was no changes and the order was correct. The cake was delivered on time and was decorated with fresh flowers my florist provided on site by the delivery staff. (If you have cake topper, you can either drop it off to the shop or have it installed on site by delivery staff. Either way, you need to let them know in advance so they can make sure your cake is structurally stable for the cake topper weight.) My wedding cake looked pretty and it tasted good. I received lots of compliment from the guests. On the side note, they would charge you more if you use American Express credit card. And you only need to pay deposit on the site but they don't have online system for you to pay the remaining online. Since we didn't have cake topper to drop off and did not want to make another trip just to pay the balance, we paid it in full the same day of tasting. This would be two suggestions for improvement, but they still deserve a 5-star for their service, the quality (taste/look), and the friendly price. Ohh and did I mention that you do receive a complimentary one year anniversary cake? That's for sure a big PLUS since my husband and I were too busy to have our own wedding cake at our wedding. We are very looking forward to our one year anniversary! All you need to do is to contact them 3 weeks prior to your one year anniversary to place the order. Give them the date of your wedding and the name the order is under and they will pull up your file and place the order. Yup it's 3 weeks, not 2 weeks. They are definitely getting busier and that's how good they are! If you are still looking for wedding cake or cake for any event, this is where I would recommend.“

“Poul’s Bakery took our breath away , we couldn’t believe the cake we have taken pictures from we have searched the internet images and sent it to her the custom cake we wanted , and not only she made the identical one ,the taste was so delicious actually finished the entire slice, it’s rare for me to eat the whole slice, as many cakes are made with to much sugar , it overwhelms to entire cakes other ingredients, this was so perfectly balanced ,and l asked for second , so did few guests , we as host wished we ordered the bigger size , we don’t like the buttercream topping due to its excessive sugar , we ordered her soexisl topping , while you others ask no buttercream but we want Poul’s Bakery special topping we heard so much about it , sorry l don’t remember what it was called . She said it’s a company secret Lol, we respect that Try Poul’s Bakery , it won’t s sidelong you and ask for a sample of their fantastic cannolis . And on the spot in events she actually make the cake front of your guests . We never tried that but people are ranting about it and went at viral with millions of views and shared ,,we saw it in her website . “Primarily a place to get pastries 🍰 😎 to go, it can get quite busy with the line extending out the front door and onto the sidewalk (be sure to keep the door closed or they will remind you 😀).
Luckily, the line goes right by their selection of freshly baked goods 👌🏻. The strawberry 🍓 cream croissant is a great choice. Be sure to get everything you want before you leave the line as there really isn't much help after your purchase. They are on to the next guest to keep the line moving.
No indoor seating but some metal tables and chairs on their outdoor patio. Your view is of a neighborhood street and El Camino Real.
Pastries were good but highly recommended to get your favorites to go.

“While visiting Balboa Island I stopped at Dad's Donut and Bakery for some breakfast. I was in the mood for a fresh soft donut with coffee. At first it wasn't apparent to me that the shop had donuts, since I looked up at the large exterior sign displaying their frozen banana, assuming that was their specialty. Regardless, I crossed the street, looked in the door and saw the large trays of donuts. Looking at the interior sign, I noticed they were in fact a bakery shop.

After perusing the various baked offerings, I picked up an apple fritter and a traditional chocolate donut. The apple fritter was fresh, with a firm outer shell and a soft fluffy inside with small chunks of delicious apple. The chocolate donut was soft, sweet and tasty with its chocolate top coating.

Dad's Donut shop is right near the entrance to the island and getting there early will land you with convenient parking to grab a bite to eat and enjoy some early shopping.“

This location is in not a friendliness neighborhood but it’s big and has their packing lot. Very spacious inside and huge seating area for dine in. Customer service is okey, could be friendlier but it’s late in the day and they have like an hr left before closing. Their breads are excellent, cakes are good, and baked goods are very good. We got 3 items to go for breakfast and prices wise, decent and reasonable.“

At first I didn’t understand how on earth a loaf of bread can cost $18 and being packaged as a gift?Well, I followed the instruction on best way to enjoy it. I finished 1/2 loaf in December and froze the other 1/2.Now it’s January, I took out the other 1/2 and let it defrost on its own over the counter, then sliced a thick slice, gently toasted and enjoyed it daily. So I heard that they’re known for the Pate Chaud and baguettes, and they do yummy. I ordered a pate chaud, a sandwich and a sweet treat. Pate Chaud has a great but small portion well mixed meat filling, the crusty pastry was mixed for me, top part was crusty and smell fantastic but as you voted into it, it become tough and abit chewy for me. The bánh mì, for me didn’t do much - just nothing special. The baguette was not hot nor crisp as you bite in it, it was just room temperature. The size is abit smaller then other place with decent price for it. The opera cake was abit disappointed for me, I love love this cake and it was just below average for me, abit sweeter then I would like, the bottom of the cake sticked to the paper and the cake itself was just fell like cake mixed from the box. Just nothing special. The displaced cakes look great so will come back to get them to give a taste another time.“
