“Sushi Shunka is our go-to spot for celebrating special occasions and also our fave sushi spot in OC. Located in a strip mall at the corner of E. 17th Street and Tustin Avenue in Costa Mesa, the restaurant specializes in authentic sushi and Japanese cuisine. "Shunka" means "Flavor of the Season", so they of course select their fish depending on the season and in addition to customer favorites. The sushi chefs are veterans and the wait staff are polite helping to provide an unforgettable dining experience to their customers.

I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar and ordering one of the omakase options. On our recent visit, I ordered the Chef's Omakase which included 10 pieces of sushi including sea bream, Japanese sea bass, mackerel, amberjack, toro and bluefin tuna among others. The sushi is always top-qualify and practically melts in your mouth. I have a big appetite so I also supplemented my meal with a toro hand roll, blue fin tuna hand roll and fried Hamachi Kama. Everything is made to order and is so oishi! Having said that, this is fine dining so expect to pay a high price but know that it’s worth every penny. As I mentioned before we only visit on special occasions, so I’m already hoping we’ll have a reason to celebrate again soon!“

“Hands down the best fish taco I’ve ever had in a long long time. Talk about flavorful packed explosion of flavors. Easily hands down a contender for one of the top bites to eat in 2024. The sushi looks incredible and will be back for that in another visit. I love how it’s light and not greasy and they have a record 30 different sauces that are made for each menu item! That’s crazy and the cilantro jalapeño cream sauce wow.“

“Absolutely amazing! This is the spot I’ve been taking everyone. Place inside is kinda small but super cozy and cute. You order at the kiosk and it’s super easy/convenient. They make the food in the front and it definitely adds a personalized touch. My favorites are the seared salmon and unagi yubu! They look small but 3 of them is the perfect amount for meal for me

“It was lunch time and I wanted something tasty and light. I found this sushi spot in a shopping center. There was a lot of parking and I came in to get a to go order. The place looked nice inside, trendy, and clean. There were sushi bar chefs making the food fresh on the spot. I ordered the ponzu roll for myself and crunchy roll for my fiancé. The host was nice he took my order and gave me the extra sauces I asked for. It was a 10-15 minute wait. They were both good rolls, I really liked the ponzu roll with the sauce. The crunch roll was basic. Although these 2 rolls were good, I don’t think it should be $20/roll. That’s pretty pricey for rolls I can get just as good somewhere else. But besides the price, everything else was good!

“I am in town visiting from across the country and this is one of the best sushi places I have ever been to. I say that as a person who worked for seven years in a sushi establishment. The service is so fast and the employees are so kind. Our sushi was delicious and even their desserts are great. We went back twice and it is truly just an exemplary restaurant. “I love Ango Tei a lot! I've been going here for over 30 years. When I first went, I was a college student, but as time went by, I went with my daughter, now a college student, and she loved it too. Unfortunately, the original chefs are no longer there (most of them are retired) but it's still delicious.?However, some types of sushi are no longer available.“

“First time trying. Build-your-own poke bowls as well as signature bowls are available. We ordered with tuna and salmon, the base had ramen option which is rare. Fresh and good tasting sauces! They also serve spam musubi which was warm and tasty. Also served boba drinks and smoothies but weren’t available for some reason when we were there. Outdoor seating available for you and your pup.“

“The food was really good. We got Euclid roll volcano roll and a few others. They had a tasteful amount of sauce and everything was done in such a pleasant way. “I would like to start off that this place is a takeout place, with that being said, this place is some of the highest quality sushi/poke places around. They have a very good poke bowl that I have order 5 times in the past month. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that needs a quick fill for poke.
