We lived in Japan and are picky with our sushi and this place is fresh enough to meet the mark. The pressed sushi is delicious. Our absolute favorite is the yellowtail jalepeno sashimi. Omg I could eat 4 plates. Shishito peppers or edamame make a great starter and are super fresh and cooked perfectly. Wine is always good- nice selection of sakes too.“

“Sashimi is a sushi restaurant located at the corner of Lake Forest Drive and Dimension Drive. It appears to be run by a Korean family and is a popular spot among the locals. They have a sushi bar, but we opted to dine at a table. Steve greeted us and was not only friendly and helpful, but his service level enhanced our overall dining experience.

We tried a number of dishes during our visit. Among my favorites were the Veggie Tempura, Salmon Nigiri, Lake Forest Roll (I appreciate that they allow substitutions so I subbed spicy yellowtail in place of the spicy tuna) and Special Carpaccio S. The Spicy Salmon cut roll was nothing special and tasted more like a California Roll. The Yellowtail Cheek was good, but it was more meaty and less tender than I've enjoyed at other Japanese restaurants. My wife ordered the Pink Lady, but I prefer my sushi with rice. All in all, we enjoyed our Sashimi experience and I'd recommend checking it out if you're in Lake Forest and in the mood for raw fish at a reasonable price.“

“Honsan Sushi is truly AMAZING!!! Likely thee best sushi I have ever had! The Dragon roll was absolutely superb, incredibly fresh with an impeccable presentation. I loved the black forbidden rice cooked to perfection. I did not miss the white rice one bit or its higher glycemic index. The Eel Hand roll was equally as impressive and absolutely delicious! I am so grateful to have found this incredible gem in my neighborhood! I will definitely return and Honsan will be my sushi restaurant from here on out. 10/10“

“Great omakase experience, indulged in the various kind of sushi with fish fresh from Japan. The appetizer was like a vintage painting combined by surprising ingredients. “My family and I usually love Jizake and have been to this place multiple times over the years. However after last nights dinner not sure if we will come back. The first issue is that the server forgot to bring us 3 of our appetizers. I also noticed that my hot sake wasn't very hot and that they have trimmed down the size of their rolls. During the meal it became obvious to all of us outside that they were using a wifi speaker and whoesever phone it was hooked up to must have been moving around since the music was going in and out. Lastly while asking for the check I instructed the server to take the appetizers off our bill since we didn't receive them. He said he would and when he came back I was given a hand written bill with the break down. To his credit those appetizers were shown but not charged. I totaled up each line item and everything seemed correct as the subtotal was $170 with tax total should have been $183.17. However after taking my credit card he came back saying they totaled our bill incorrectly and apologized. Our new printed bill after charging my credit card didn't show the pricing break down for all the items but it appears that they added back in the money for the appetizers as with tax it came to $196.11 plus tip. By this point we just wanted to leave. After getting home we started not feeling so well. We don't usually have any bad reactions to sushi so maybe it was some sort of cross contamination issue. Either way I would caution everyone while eating at this establishment.“

“This is a seafood restaurant where you can really feel the California vibe. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

I ordered the clam chowder bread bowl, but it was way too much food for me as a Japanese person! 😂

Unfortunately, I didn’t take a photo of the main dish, but everything was so cute and delicious. The interior was also really cute and had a great atmosphere. 🩷“

“This is legit authentic Japanese food, even with the little potato salad in the salad and the dressing is actually not your fake Benihana sesame dress it even though I love that stuff. This is a very light fresh flavor. The tempura was unbelievably fresh. I wasn’t a huge fan of the flavor or the quality of the meat. Maybe I couldn’t tell the chicken teriyaki but it wasn’t bad. It just tasted like maybe the chicken was pre-cut or pre-prepared or something or maybe frozen before for a while but wasn’t horrible. It just wasn’t epic but honestly for the price and what it was and I’m taking so much home. I’m happy.“
