“I was planning a nice dinner for my boyfriend and my good friend highly recommended Kai wagyu. The store is conveniently located near south coast plaza, so I stopped by after running some errands. The store itself is small, but very nicely setup. The girl who helped me was very knowledgeable and helped me make the best choice for my meal. I went with the A5 Japanese wagyu. First, Chef Masa is the nicest most friendly Chef there is, and all his staff are friendly and spot on with water refills and quick service. The fish he gets is some of the freshest and best quality out there. For cooked food Try the salmon collar. It's the melt in your mouth part of the salmons neck and cheek, and prepared expertly! Everything I've had, from the fresh oysters, the halibut carpaccio, the Takowasa, and Takoyaki, they spicy yellow tail lover roll and al the sashimi- has been perfect. Can't recommend enough !“

I had jidori chicken udon. I've never had udon before, but the dish was great, and the broth was clean without being oversoaked with grease. For the price, I wish there was more chicken. I asked for warm water (instead of hot), but I got cold (instead of icy) instead. The rice and the fish were prepared with care. The aburi salmon belly just melted in our mouths. A table next to us, who seemed to be loyal & frequent customers ordered 50 pieces! Then we proceeded to bento lunches (such great value) and ate until our hearts content. Great combos from teriyaki, udon, karage (perfectly fried juicy pieces of chicken) and donkatsu to sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi combos as well.Everyone from the chefs, service members and other customers were happy and laughing during our meals. This was a tough meal to beat since every other business lunch and dinner afterwards seemed to pale in comparison.
