Absolutely Exceptional – A Must-Visit in Del Mar

Monarch Ocean Pub exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed and well taken care of. The open-air setting overlooking the street gives the perfect mix of energy and ease — you feel part of the buzz of Del Mar while enjoying a relaxed, elegant meal.

Our server, Bo, was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and genuinely delightful to talk with (we even discovered she went to Indiana University, which made it feel like a small-world connection!).

Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor — from the fresh oysters and crisp Caesar salad to the soft Parker House rolls, the shrimp and lobster sliders, and the finale of melt-in-your-mouth Hawaiian donuts. Each bite was perfection.

“Eating a lot of their food past four months through Grub Hub due to being unable to walk. It’s always excellent. Tonight’s was super excellent, chop suey with beef extra snow peas and Napa cabbage. Been cooking for over 60 years and this is one of the best and healthiest things I have ever eaten.

“It’s our annual place to be every August for the last 17 years: celebrating 50 years of marriage! The food, service and atmosphere right on the beach is heavenly. Our bartender Steve congratulated us and we talked for a short time. Everyone is so friendly, can’t beat the quality of their meals ! We drive out from Phoenix to have their specialty. Well worth the ride❤️❤️❤️“

“We came here for breakfast. Cute little spot in Del Mar tucked inside their coastal neighborhood. The cafe seems to be a house converted into a cafe. It has a large patio for seating with large yellow umbrellas.
Food wise, we enjoyed a breakfast burrito which had avocado, bacon, potato and eggs with a side of fruit. We also had the avocado and edamame toast which had micro greens, tomato, pickled onions and feta on top of it. Overall, the food was good. I enjoyed my brown sugar cinnamon oat milk latte. It was not overly sweet. We will return to try more options.“

“Tacos were quite good -- I got an Al pastor and Asada. More flavorful than at many fast casual spots. 2 tacos were about $13. Relatively quick service, and has outdoor seating with some sun and some shade. Overall, I recommend, and I'm excited to come back and try the super breakfast burrito.“

“The Del Mar roll was the best sushi I have had in a long time and very filling! Ensui Sushi Bar and Grill stands up to their name. It is not the largest place, but it had 3 large TVs with March Madness on each one. I am so glad I found Ensui Sushi and will definitely be back!“

“Le Bambou is one of my favorite restaraunts in all of San Diego and is very affordable! My favorite dishes are Shaken Beef and Star of the Sea in Tamarind Sauce with a side of rice. Each time I’ve gone, their food never disappoints and their flavors amaze me each time and has a wow factor! The Shaken Beef is always so juicy and never dry with great flavor. The Star of the Sea in Tamarind Sauce has a perfect balance of tamarind in its sauce. It’s subtle and blends in the perfect amount. The imperial rolls in the Vermicelli with Pork and Shrimp dish are some of the best egg rolls I’ve ever tried and their pho is also very tasty. It’s a small, family-owned business and the owners seem very sweet and give great recommendations. The prices are very reasonable and their portion sizes have just the right amount and I feel full. The restaurant has a romantic vibe but also a casual vibe at the same time. So if you feel like going on a date or going in casual with friends, family, or kids, it’s a great place to go! 10/10 recommend!“

“I understand mistakes happen. I usually eat at this restaurant once a week after my late shift around 2/3 a.m. I noticed the quality of food got really bad. My meal was simple—a single patty cheeseburger with nothing on it. The first mess-up was the fries—they were burnt. Then the second mess-up: a burnt burger. Like, crispy burnt. Then my last and final straw—they served me a moldy burger that I thought was flour. Even my friends saw it and agreed after I sent them a picture. I ended up in the hospital. I called the manager, and he didn’t even offer a refund—said I was lying. I told him I’d send proof, and then he said no and hung up in my face. Not only is the manager rude and disrespectful, he cares little for his kitchen’s mistakes—and it cost me a day in the hospital. Cost me the only day I have with my son. All because his chefs are lazy and don’t care what they serve.“

“Our server, Patrick was impressive. It was our first time to dine out for Thanksgiving and we were delighted with the option to have traditional turkey or order from menu. The turkey and dressing were delicious and flavorful ( dressing had sausage). We also ordered crabbed stuff mushroom caps that had a light parma cheese that was crispy. The pumpkin cheesecake with vanilla ice cream was outstanding. We were not disappointed and would absolutely recommend Ruth's Chris for holidays. All the servers were attentive even with a packed dining room.“

“We stopped in for their Tuesday kids eat free. The food was great, high quality and tasty. Fries were crispy and flavorful. Burgers were smash burger style and so good. The kids were treated with kindness and respect. They picked a soda flavor they didn't like, and the staff were quick to notice and come switch it out for them. I love that the soda is real sugar. That is a huge plus. We all enjoyed the food and the funny blooper videos on the TV screens in the dining room. It was a great experience.“

“Really nice variety on their dinner menu.... Salads, small plates/appetizers, pasta to fish to steak, pork chops, etc... Their wine list is also nice... So you should be able to find something to pair with your dinner. If not, try a mocktail, cocktail or beer. We sat on their upstairs patio where we could sort of watch the sunset over the water. Yes, there were buildings and trees in our sightlines but still nice. Service was very good considering they were slammed. Will definitely be back again.“
