“AZURE PALMS CAFE has become one of my favorite spots for vegan food in Desert Hot Springs. There are not a lot of quality vegan options in the area, so this place is truly appreciated. My favorite meal is the black bean walnut burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun, served with a side salad, pickle, and vegan Thousand Island dressing. Absolutely delicious and filling without feeling heavy. I also highly recommend the Green Goddess Salad with vegan vinaigrette instead of the regular dressing. It comes packed with green beans, spinach, avocado, cucumber, soybeans, and sprouts — fresh, healthy, and full of flavor. The cafe is located inside the hot springs resort, so you can enjoy it whether you’re staying there or just visiting as a guest. The café closes around 7 PM, but they still offer desserts, grab-and-go items, and regular food service until about 11 PM, which is super convenient. We recently had a goodbye dinner at Al Dente Trattoria for a couple from our snowbird park. There were nine of us, and overall the food was good. Everyone ordered full meals, and the service was acceptable, especially considering the restaurant was relatively empty.

Before dining, we had all requested separate checks. What we did not realize was that the restaurant automatically added a 20% gratuity for parties over six people. Three people in our group noticed this and did not add an additional tip. Unfortunately, three of us did not catch it and ended up tipping more than 20% on top of the already-added 20%.

The next morning, after realizing what had happened, I called the restaurant right away. I explained the situation politely and asked if they could remove the extra tip from my bill, as I had also left cash. I was only speaking for myself, not the rest of the group. The woman I spoke with was very pleasant and told me she would look into it and get back to me.

Unfortunately, I never heard back, and the charge went through unchanged. As a result, our waitress received approximately a 40% tip on three fairly large bills.

I fully understand that I should have noticed the automatic gratuity myself, and I take responsibility for that. However, once the restaurant was made aware that several guests had clearly made the same mistake, I had hoped they would show some goodwill and help resolve it. Since nothing was done and no follow-up was provided, I am rating this restaurant one star based on the way the situation was handled from an ethical and customer service standpoint.“

“Goody's is great. I've never eaten anything off the menu that I didn't like. There's multiple Goody's across the valley, this one happens to be across the street from the Flying J truck stop and makes it convenient for drivers to whom I would say, I would highly recommend eating there before tanking up on the fast food joints that are just down the street. Breakfast, lunch or dinner there's something for everybody and they serve it all, all day long.“
