“I've tried a lot of goodies here, but the fruit tart is the best I've ever had in my life. The custard is light and creamy and not too sweet like some tarts can be, and the fruit is fresh and beautifully arranged. But the crust, MY GOD IN HEAVEN is sheer perfection. Try it and if you don't think it's the best crust on any pie you've ever had, I will eat my hat.“
“Fournee often has a very long line, but some random weekend mornings, there's no line...and you should definitely jump on the opportunity! The line can be quite long, around the corner which can be quite a wait. My favorites are the cheese bread, croissant, chocolate croissant and ham and cheese croissant....but there are also tons of other delicious goodies there; I just have to stop myself from ordering everything. They also have a bunch of really delicious desserts in the front case which I haven't had a chance to try.“
“Lovely people with great parties. Enough nice things have been said about their almond croissant. I think their egg custard was super on point as well—perfectly crispy on the outside with soft and creamy filling. I might have also tasted a hint of lemon/citrus for some extra refreshing flavor, which was quite unique. Always a treat worth getting up early for when I’m in Berkeley!“
“Found a new favorite cafe in town! Lovely interior and very friendly owner and staff. I've been going almost every day for the past two weeks for their Persian Rose Tea and am just starting to try out their baked goods. Cardamom and saffron cookie goes really well with the tea!“
“I had a dozen assorted flavors shipped in for my baby shower across the U.S. and they made it time, perfectly intact and individually wrapped. They're less like -rhymes with bumbles- and more like homemade, which I adore! At BPBS flavors range from your classics like Dark Chocolate Sea Salt and Oatmeal Raisin Pecan to more unique concoctions like Banana Toffee or Walnut Brownie. Luckily, I was able to order some limited time flavors of Strawberries & Cream, Coffee Chocolate Chip, Salted Caramel Brownie--OMGggg my every pregnant craving dream come true. It was devoured amongst friends and family, but not before I devoured the coffee infused one first. Even enjoyed cold, the cookies are soft and gooey, some even had a crunchy edge; bonus points for this, so much yummm. Much thanks to the staff at BPBS for satisfying many sweet tooths at my baby shower!“
“Algerian baked goods and sweets at their best! Incredibly, this tiny sidewalk cafe makes all their own pastries and sweets on-site. The owner/baker/muffin maker is almost always there, making community and croissant sandwiches. Seating on the sidewalk will, with great good luck, be upgraded soon with a parklet.“
“Delicious! We special ordered a small cake from Sesame Bakery for a celebration -- the leftovers we ate for breakfast were just as good as the night before. Incredible flavors, quality ingredients -- we live close to Fournee Bakery, but Sesame definitely gives them a run for their money.“
“Such a beautiful bakery. We stopped in after lunch for a sweet treat & were not disappointed. The staff are friendly & helped us to choose some very tasty items. We tried an amazing chocolate raspberry cake, which is pictured, chocolatelovers should try this for sure. A lemon bar & a lemon cheesecake. The lemon bar had a nice crispy crust, which was almost biscuit like. Sweet but not overwhelming. Tart & delicious. The lemon cheesecake was dense but not overly sweet . A light lemon taste enhanced the cheesecake instead of taking it over. The americano was served piping hot & great brewed fresh.. We will definitely come again.“
“Excellent bakery with delicious, beautifully produced pastries and cookies. Highly recommend the custard topped, strawberry jam filled pastry and the Ube croissant. The matcha cream filled pastry was a little overwhelmed by the sweetness and abundance of the topping, but if you have a sweet tooth like me, it's heaven. The flavor of the topping was still very good and it looked gorgeous! My husband was disappointed by the ham and cheese croissant and said he thought it could have used a little more filling. If you are familiar with Bake Sum on Lakeshore, you will know what to expect in terms of flavors, textures and types of pastries available.Parking can be tricky in this neighborhood but side streets are a good option.Parking: Use side streets“
“I love coming here for my caffeine and nature hit. It’s one of the best in Berk Berk… an oasis ?Dietary restrictions: Vegan and gluten freeParking: Hot tip: if you know where the other side of the park is, there’s always a spotKid-friendliness: Baby and kid friendly ❤️ Tons of moms and strollers and babies“
“Great customer service! I like the different options of donut flavors such as horchata, pistachio, and ube. Wish they had more vegan or even gluten free options. If they offered mochi donuts (rice is gluten free/friendly) that would make this place a one stop shop.“
“A little on the pricey side but a great treat. I placed an order for a whole quiche. It was a great. Picking up my order took a long time. There were 3 people ahead of me and it literally took close to 5 minutes per person. I wish there was a separate line to pick up an order or that there was more staffing to help customers faster. It was worth the wait though.“
“Boichik is a weekly favorite of mine. You can't go wrong with your choice of bagel, although pumpernickel caraway salt is currently my top choice. The coffee's good too, hot or iced. On top of everything, everyone who works there is super, super nice. SPECIAL SHOUT OUT to Lisa! She always makes my day and never fails to brighten up the room :)Last thing to keep in mind for the uninitiated: there's limited seating (especially when it's raining -- there are just 4 tables inside) and the bagels tend to get sold out before 11:30-12 on the weekend.Vegetarian options: They have vegan cream cheese (plain, strawberry, or chive) and several of their bagels are inherently vegan. Vegan creamer is available as well.“
“Pies are delicious, well-seasoned and the butter pastry is great. My favorites are the Moroccan lamb pie, the Chicken Tikka Masala pie and the Jamaican Style Curried Beef Pie.Customer Service responds quickly. When there was a problem with one of my orders it was handled quickly and courtiously.“
“I love butter pecan.. I was excited they put a location closer to me.. this location is bigger and has space to eat inside .. the staff was nice and has lost of patience.. I had a hard time making a decision that day..I wanted to try the Valentine's Day special and that sock it to me cookies was on point.. I didn't expect the center.. I was also able to try the brownie cookie soo good can't wait until they bring it back the peach cobbler cookie“
“My 8 year daughter and I were referred here from a social worker at Oakland Children's Hospital. My daughter was diagnosed with Celiac 8months ago. To say she was absolutely pleased with their selections and overall delicious subs is an understatement. She said "Mom if my belly could dance, it would definitely be dancing " Needless to say we are very pleased and would recommend 1000%. We hope to visit again soon when we are in the area. In the meantime I will be ordering online. Thank You for absolute amazing Gluten Free options!!!!“
“I've had the good fortune of bringing Acme treats to a few social gatherings this past week. Top notch service & baked goods each & every time. The two fellas at the front counter really hustle to keep that ever-present line moving briskly. But where is the tip jar for these magicians?!! Surely Acme could do this for their dedicated pros, and we customers are so accustomed to seeing one, it feels awkward to note its absence. [btw- the Acme pizza slab cut into bite sized pieces is a real crowd pleaser for happy hour occassions ] Word to the wise: everything available and barely a line between 8-830am. Now about that tip jar: hope to see it on my next visit!“
“The absolute BEST Peach Cobbler I have ever tasted in my life. The perfect amount of crust to peach ratio is top tier with just the right amount of juice. Not too sweet, not too salty, but the perfect balance of flavor. The Sweet Potato Pound Cake is at the top of my list. Unlike any other pound cake I've ever tasted. Super unique, unheard of, and very delightful. The pound cake recipe is on point, super moist and the sweet potato filling adds a pop of extra flavor. Then the Chai glaze drizzled on top gives it a lovely spice profile. This one is also not too sweet but when in need of some goody sweetness, this is the perfect dessert for you. Can be eaten in the morning as breakfast with a cup of coffee or tea. (I prefer it with iced coffee ) 1000000/10 would recommend!! All of the other desserts are top tier as well.“
“This French bakery is the real deal! His croissants are in my top 3 list! He also makes killer chocolate chip cookies! This place does have really limited hours, and so I can't give them 5 stars. But the food is a solid 5 stars . You won't be disappointed in a croissant with turkey ! Yum“
“This is the bakery to go to in downtown Benicia! They make everything fresh and it is apparent in the presentation and taste. I went with the Breakfast Sandwich with bacon and it was flaky buttery delicious. This is a nice place to relax with friends, a drink, and some food on a nice day.“
“Absolutely love this bakery cupcakes galore!!! The service and music always on point. So friendly and helpful with details, ingredients and decision making lol. My favorite is the key lime cupcake!!! So freaking delicious and fresh tasting. I always order cupcakes from here or the other location in Walnut Creek for celebrations. Such variety and flavors!! You will never regret from ordering cupcakes from here! So delicious!! Go try them out“
“PennDel's is my neighborhood bakery, and it is so familiar that I almost forgot to write about their top notch delicious baked goods. Real French croissants (I lived in Paris, so I know what I am talking about), a Tiramisu to die for, and the best carrot cake that I have ever eaten in my life. Every single crumb is delicious. Apricot and pecan bars are a must-have for first-time visitors. Or just pick up a cake for a loved one, you can't go wrong.PennDel's was born from a love of baking and community. Thank you PD, for setting up shop in El Cerrito and help make it the inspired spot that we dream of.“
“Best bakery in Berkeley. They are so underrated and I wish more people know about their great food. I’m obsessed with their focaccia breads (marinara is out of the world), their pizzas are personally my favourite in berkeley and the chocolate croissant is to die for. I visit them atleast thrice a week. Encourage everyone to try this small business.“
“This time i tried the rich and roasty latte with espresso cream. It's amazing. I also got the banana bread pudding. Omg it's so sinful! I'm amazed at how fast they make the matcha drinks, since they're more complicated than coffee.“
“I stopped here out of curiosity to after getting items from Arizmendi and Los Cantaros Taqueria. I got the Honey Cake slice, chocolate baklava, and pistachio almond cookies (gluten free). Hatice the owner is very friendly and answered any questions I had. The Honey Cake was amazing, just the right amount of sweetness, not too much. I ate up the cake and baklava but shared the cookies. My family members said the cookies were great. I'll try to arrive before 12noon another time to get their breakfast items, like the egg in the hole. This will be one of my new go to places for food.“
“Oh Sweet Cravings, where have you been all my life! Seriously. We were in town for a family event and had lunch in the area, and my relatives highly recommended this place some after lunch sweets. I'm a huge fan of filipino desserts and this place had such a wonderful selection. They even had espasol which is one of my top favorites and a lot of places don't carry regularly. Let me just say.. it's one of the best versions I've had. I'm kicking myself for not getting more! Other standouts were the calamansi bites (an upgraded version of the lemon bar) and the coffee flan. So delicious. We also tried the sticky bibingka, ube halaya, salted hazelnut silvana, and all of these items were good as well. The staff was very friendly and the shop was very cute and clean. I almost forgot to mention they also have halo halo, turon and many other goodies. You can't go wrong with anything really. I hope to return sooner than later for that espasol.“
“My family stumbled upon this little cupcake shop in Berkeley while on a day trip. There is a good assortment of decadent cupcakes to be had. We tried two (cookies and cream and the red velvet )and they were magnificent! I highly recommend! The shop is small with no sit down options so you must take your treats to go.“
“Sadly the storefront had to close but the bakery continues to produce delicious offerings and more savory items than before! We were delighted to get a package sent all the way to GA for a birthday this month. Items arrived in beautiful condition and were well rec'd. We were told they didn't last long at all and I can believe it. We will be ordering via the website from now on!“
“Ordered from DoorDash and had them delivered for a sleepover. Excellent donuts - nice crisp. Very well designed and packaged. Only criticism is that the One Dozen Specialty Mix was more of a normal mix. The specially designed mix was fabulous and a real show stealer!“
“Starter bakery is a spacious, modern bakery located a block away from the Rockridge BART station. There is a lot of indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. Starter Bakery's pastries can be found in many coffee shops around Berkeley and Oakland but I was super excited to discover that they have a couple of their own locations. The service is quick and friendly. The staff go above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable. One day I went at 7:30AM and the scones were not glazed yet but the staff glazed one fresh for me. I go to Starter frequently and it is my mid-week sweet treat. Everyone deserves a little treat to get them through the week! Anyways, these are some of the pastries I've gotten so far: -Twice baked ham and cheese croissant: I was so blown away by this croissant. The croissant itself was flaky and served warm. On top of the croissant there is this delicious combination of ham, caramelized onions, a hint of Dijon mustard -Dried orange and cranberry scone (seasonal) This scone flavor is one of my favorites! There is a perfect balance of sweet, citrus, and freshness. The scone is moist and the glaze on top compliments each bite. -Raspberry Kouign Amann (seasonal) -Dried ginger and pear Kouign Amann (seasonal) Every Kouign Amann that I've had from Starter was delicious. The fillings have strong flavors and the pastry itself is crisp with a taste of caramelized sugar at the bottom. It is not overwhelmingly sweet and there is a pleasant balance of sweet/savory. I will continue to come back to Starter Bakery and next time I want to try their breads and sandwiches! I've been to a couple of bakeries in the Bay Area and Starter is a stand out.“
“I've eaten their bread and croutons many times, but this is my first visit to the bakery. The public area in the front is rather small. If you're still COVID paranoid, this isn't a good spot. The people working were very nice and helpful. I asked for the sourest bread they had. I thought it was the rustic sour, but no, they recommended the sourdough batard. Bread was excellent, but still not sour enough for me. Then again, nobody makes sourdough sour enough for me.“
“This is a family owned business. So again. I love to support family businesses. I usually should get the premade breakfast burritos. The staff is very friendly. They do get busy, so you just need to be patient. Overall it's a nice ambiance. And their pastries are so good. If you ever the area give them a try and you won't be disappointed.“
“I have been eating at this amazing bakery since 2006. I am so happy it exists because it is simply the best. I recently started ordering pies and other baked goods for holidays after not going here as much and I realize how much I missed it. I love the pies and anything with a flakey crust. The chocolate pave is also really good and the cakes. You really can't go wrong with anything from Crixa.“
“Visited this cozy little cafe at Café Buenos Aires was a revelation! The perfect fusion of Chaga’s earthy richness and Matcha’s vibrant notes created a truly unique and delightful beverage. Nestled in this beautiful unassuming spot, the cafe exudes a warm ambiance that pairs perfectly with their array of drinks and empanadas. The Chaga Matcha Latte stands out as a must-try, showcasing the cafe’s commitment to quality and flavor innovation. A delightful discovery for any matcha enthusiast seeking a cozy retreat in Emeryville!“
“these are going to be as sweet as they look. some flavors are a little better than others. but the cornbread was so good it was eaten before i could get a photo. really enjoyed the brownie batter. but the strawberry could have used a better cookie recipe and less frosting“
“The shop is very quaint and has a wide variety of baked goods + farmer's market quality condiments. This is a Berkeley staple! The apple cider was very tasty and warm. It seemed like they poured it from a premade container that was sourced from a local farm and then warmed it up. Both baked goods were fantastic and baked fresh that morning. The Rosemary puff is lovingly described by my friend as a "savory donut" - and for good reason! It has a sourdough base that is both fragrant and flavorful, but not overpowering. It has the perfect amount of sea salt seasoning and rosemary flavor, and just enough oil to make it soft and slightly juicy in the best way possible. It tastes great on its own or with one of the sauces sold at the collective! The pear ginger muffin was also very yummy and fresh with a distinctly citrusy flavor. It was fluffy and not too sweet. 10/10 experience!“
“This place is absolutely fantastic! I'm a bagel enthusiast and have tried many around town, but this spot stands out among the rest. We sampled a variety of their offerings, including the Tuna Melt with Cheddar, Chicken Wrap with Tahini Sauce, Turkey Ham, Swiss on Croissant, and Grilled Chicken Breast with Mozzarella—each one was a flawless addition to our day.We grabbed two for a quick bite on our day trip, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice because all four of them were incredibly delicious. The taste, saltiness, and freshness, along with the aromatic blend of the meats and veggies, were spot on. Everything about the experience was just right. We loved it so much that we came back for another visit, and I think my partner might have already snuck in for more. The combination of flavors, quality, and overall experience has made this our go-to spot. We're both smitten with this place and can't wait to indulge in more of their delightful creations!“
“I give this bakery chain a 10/10. If you come early morning and get a chance to try this warm and fresh, you’re in for a treat. These are warm, buttery, sweet bread, that I can’t eat enough of. The Cassava cake is so good as well, filled with coconut, and very sweet“
“I'm not a CAKE PERSON, but some occasions simply require a cake. I ordered one such cake and was blown away. It was perfect! First, it was visually stunning. Next, the taste and texture CHANGED me to a CAKE CONVERT. PERFECT! Last, there was a hiccup in the order. One detail was overlooked. There was no time given to assessing the blame. They simply fixed the problem and sent me in my way. All this and the cake was deliciously vegan. Beautiful location and I love being able to see how the sausage is made--so to speak. 6 out of 5 stars!“
“Holy moly!! Best Portuguese egg tart ever! It is life changing. The custard is so silky smooth, and the crust is sooooooo freaking flaky.I also got quite the haul and was able to try a selection of items! Meyer lemon japanese cheesecake was so fluffy! I was amazed at the salted egg yolk cookie- definitely not a common bakery item, and I have no regrets trying it. The korean army stew focaccia was a unique menu item, so I had to try it. It was decent and a nice savory item. Since I ordered a lot and they were about to close, they threw in a little gift (hazelnut baby cake) for me, which was nice of them! The tea eggs were a nice addition because I needed some savory to balance out the sweet.“
“This spot is a family favourite. Something for everyone..as long as it's a pretzel. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Absolute Rockstars.Kid-friendliness: Staff are kind and considerate towards little ones. We will keep coming back. Thank you Squabisch!“
“Masse's Pastries in North Berkeley's gourmet ghetto is a true gem. Owners Paul and Marcia Masse bring a wealth of culinary expertise to their European-style patisserie, resulting in cakes that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. Their seasonal cakes are a highlight, but their wedding cakes are what truly set them apart, earning them a stellar reputation across the Bay Area. As locals, we frequent Masse's for their fresh pastries and coffee, with favorites like the morning bun and chocolate croissant. For special occasions, their Mango Mirror cake is our top choice. This masterpiece features golden sponge cake layered with mango and mango mousse, finished with a gorgeous mango mirror glaze. It's a crowd-pleaser every time. Beyond their delectable offerings, Masse's is a lively hub in the neighborhood, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely coffee or tea along with a delightful pastry. Masse's Pastries is more than just a bakery; it's a beloved community fixture that consistently delivers exceptional quality and artistry.“
“The lavender vanilla Latte is yummy. The ladies were so friendly. The cafe was delightful to spend time in. A nice environment for all ages.Kid-friendliness: Hostess presented a corner for the littles to hang out. They also have board games to go play with the family. I wanna go back to try their pizza.“
“We finally got a chance to try their cakes, and they are sooo good. Their cakes are so moist! We love their karamel, pistachio, and chocolate cakes. We can find slices of their cakes at some 711's in the East Bay, so we plan on trying them all! We love this community bakery and love supporting this small business.“
“Tony’s did a excellent job in providing sweet treats for my grandson’s christening. We had more than enough and the guest was wowed by the freshness and assortments. We will definitely recommend Tony’s for your sweet tooth delights. Timely, professional, fresh, delicious, a most go to! BiG “
“Boyfriend reviewing here - This place is the bees knees, came here two days in a row. Had the pan con todo adobado and the pan con todo y plátano and let me tell you kings and queens BUSSIN is all I can say. Soft bread and well seasoned meats one isn't enough!“
“Browsing through the farmers market yesterday and came upon their stand. The man was incredibly kind and willing to answer my questions about ingredients (food allergy concerns). Ended up with two loaves of country and have been munching on it last night and this morning. Was raised in the east Bay Area and moved to the Salt Lake valley Utah quite a while ago. Finding sourdough like I grew up with is hard there and I miss it! Was excited to try this. While it isn't incredibly sour it has a nice unique flavor and I'm quite satisfied with it. Thank you!“
“It is not safe to leave me in a bakery, much less in a room full of kouign amanns. The traditional, hazelnut, chocolate, and I don't even know what the seasonal flavor was but they were all decadent and delicious. Further doing more damage, I decided to just go big and added the chocolate babka, the financiers, a ham and cheese croissant. No, I didn't eat them all myself. In one sitting. Be patient and thankful for the glass case protecting these baked goods from drool and all that heavy breathing,“
“We came here on a Saturday and this place was bustling. We honestly probably would have missed it if we didn't overhear someone walking near us across the street asking if they still had strawberry cheesecake. They had such a selection of items but because the products are inside the building on display while the clerks are outside on the sidewalk, it is a bit hard to see how their items look like and therefore a little bit difficult to choose from. The strawberry shortcake was delicious, even though it was super sweet. It was rich but had great flavors.“
“If you’re looking for a meal that feels like “homemade”, this is a great place to satisfy your craving. Staff seems energetic, polite and respectful, and they even ask if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients on the food you ask for which is not very common, that way they put your health first. Prices are reasonable and the taste is great. When you’re done eating your main meal, you can get some pastries right there as well and they’re worth it.“
