My daughter’s exact words were: “this is the best chocolate sorbet in the whole world!” And it really was. “Stopped by Ghirardelli for a dessert break and ordered the Strawberry Passion Hot Fudge sundae. The portion was huge and packed with a lot of ice cream. The chocolate-dipped strawberries were surprisingly big and sweet, and the hot fudge sauce tasted really good with the ice cream without being overly sweet. Everything balanced together nicely, and it felt like the perfect treat while taking a break around the area.“

“I’ve been to a lot of ice cream places around the world and this is my favorite one (get the vanilla honey lavender flavor). Not only is the ice cream delicious and waffle cone crunchy, but it is very cheap (I swear ice cream has gotten so expensive - like why are some places charging $10). The only downside would probably be that they only take cash.“

“We took the ferry to Sausalito on a cold, windy day, but there was no way we were skipping Lappert's.

The staff was incredibly patient and kind with our kids as they asked to sample what felt like half the menu before finally making their decisions. They never seemed rushed and made the experience fun for the whole family.

Every flavor we tried was fantastic. Not a single one disappointed. Our son loved his ice cream so much that he went back for seconds, while our daughter and I both happily ended up with two scoops.

When ice cream is this good, the weather doesn't matter. Lappert's was one of the highlights of our day in Sausalito and easily some of the best ice cream we've had. If you're visiting, don't miss it.“

“Stopped by recently on a hot summer day for some gelato. Talk about a perfect repast to beat the summer heat. I had hazelnut and mango, and the portions are very generous. I didn't ask, but I think they make the cones in-house. Anyway, strange combination, I know. The mango was immediately delicious but I think I messed up combining the two because when it came time for the hazelnut, I was too full to truly enjoy the depth of flavor. Next time, I'll get it to take home. I love the location, it's in one of my favorite areas of San Rafael with shopping, good food and entertainment in abundance. “Visited for the first time and have to admit I was wary because of the reviews. Ended up talking with the owner for a few minutes and he was incredibly friendly. He's been running the place for 40 years. We talked about the history of the establishment and how he got into the gelato business. No rudeness and delicious gelato. The small seating area in the back was very nice for our small group. I would highly recommend it and plan to go back often.“

“If you're walking around Fisherman's Wharf and craving ice cream, Lappert's is a great stop. The flavors were delicious, the portions were generous, and it was the perfect treat while exploring the waterfront.

That said, after visiting both locations, I'd strongly recommend taking the ferry to Sausalito if you have the time. The Sausalito location has a more relaxed, charming atmosphere, and enjoying your ice cream while strolling along the waterfront makes the whole experience feel special.

The ice cream here was very good, but the Sausalito visit ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Between the ferry ride, the scenery, and the laid-back vibe, it felt like the perfect way to enjoy what Lappert's does best.

You really can't go wrong with either location, but if you're deciding between the two, I'd make the trip to Sausalito.“
