We were a group of 10 and we came right at peak dinner time, which honestly sounds like a terrible idea but thankfully they were able to sit us within 40 minutes. The KBBQ was super yummy and I especially loved the steamed egg, I ordered two total. The house salad was so so good- I wish someone would tell me the recipe (pls) because I ate the whole bowl. “Japanese Korean cuisine serving the best sashimi this side of town.
Our family has been coming here for decades, even after ownership change. They were smart to keep the same vendors and sushi chefs.
Food quality is consistently 5 star.
Closes for employees’ break from about 3 to 4 pm, then reopens for dinner service.
Beat value for sashimi is the sashimi special from mini to large . A good variety of sashimi, served with many side dishes that will satisfy even the largest appetites.
Includes steamed egg, icy cold seafood salad, tempura, grilled fish (at least a small fillet usually salmon), choice of soju or another roll (chef’s choice), cheesy corn and a hot pot of soybean paste stew( contains fish) plus rice!
Starts with a small espresso sized cup of abalone porridge.
Outstanding uni bowls, chirashi (chopped raw fish salad), live flounder sashimi specials.
Japanese course has many of the above components and is a great way to have something for everyone.

“My family was the first to have dinner in this Korean BBQ restaurant. Their beef brisket, belly and bulgogi are absolutely delicious.Fresh, tender, and full of flavor. And the friendly staff are another big reason I will return and introduce it to my friends. They are friendly, fast and attentive!“

“We’ve been here four times now, which is probably the best compliment I can give. When Mo Ran Gak is at its best, it’s one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Southern California. When it’s off, the inconsistency keeps it from being a five star experience.

The first visit was outstanding. The galbi was perfectly seasoned, not overly sweet, not overly salty, with great caramelization and tenderness. The naengmyeon was exactly what you hope for. Icy cold with crunchy ice still floating in the broth, crisp vegetables and incredibly refreshing.

The second visit was a completely different experience. The galbi was noticeably drier and under seasoned and the naengmyeon arrived only slightly cold. The ice had already melted, which takes away one of the best parts of great naengmyeon. The slices of beef that come with the noodles have also been consistently dry. That may be traditional, but it’s never been the highlight of the dish.

The service is probably the weakest part of the restaurant. Nobody has ever been outright rude, but it’s difficult to get someone’s attention and the staff generally feels indifferent. You can tell they’re busy, but hospitality often feels like an afterthought. I’d probably rate the service around a 3 out of 5.

The restaurant itself is older but clean, with a comfortable atmosphere and moderate noise. Parking can be frustrating and there’s usually a wait, but that’s expected for a popular spot.

One thing I really enjoy is the complimentary crispy pancake they bring out. Honestly, I’d happily eat an entire plate of it. The banchan are solid overall, though fairly average.

Despite the inconsistency, I still think this is some of the best naengmyeon and especially bibim naengmyeon you’ll find in the Los Angeles area. That’s why we keep coming back. I just hope they can deliver the same level of quality every visit because when they do, it’s genuinely excellent.“

“I tried 3, the spicy eel, butter garlic crab and spicy tuna. The crab was a little disappointing, I dont know why I was expecting real crab but I obvious went in not doing a lot of research. Imitation crab, not favorite, didnt think it was worth the $. The spicy tuna was the best one! Its actually spicy, I would come back for it. This is also the first time I've been here since theres never any parking. Small lot, its probably my least favorite thing about the place. Other than that, not bad!“

“Just had the full spread at So Moon Nan Jokbal in Fullerton, and it was outstanding! The jokbal was incredibly tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Every dish that came out was fresh, generous, and clearly made with care. Got the crispy fried chicken and a bowl of japchae to split with a friend, both came out hot and fresh. The chicken was just salty enough on its own without needing the sauce, definitely the highlight for me. Only thing is the parking arrangement is a little awkward, it shares a lot with a laundromat so it can feel crowded. We sat at one of the outdoor tables because it was nice weather, felt very low key and casual. I'd probably just order takeout next time instead of dealing with the seating, but the food is solid.“

“Love Gangnam Kimbob so much. Very laid back atmosphere. Service is always hospitable and upbeat. Food options are plentiful and delicious. You also get a lot for your dollar here imo. The kimbop is very filling and always leaves me feeling good about my choice to eat out given the portion of veggies contained within. I usually cycle between the tonkatsu, tempura shrimp, ssam and spicy ssam kimbops, while my wife loves to order their shin ramyun. They also have some interesting combos for lunch and dinner I’ve yet to try, but come with a variety of food that seem like a great option when you don’t only crave one thing. I can’t recommend this place enough.

“Honestly surprised this place isn't rated higher! Came at like 6:30 pm seated right away, menu is very straightforward. The quality of the meat is phenomenal and they cook it for you. The kimchis and pickled vegetable array is unreal I literally would eat here over and over again. It's a very straightforward experience but 5/5 stars!“

“Legit Chuncheon-style Dakgalbi.

When I go to Korea, I love eating dakgalbi. Specifically, Chuncheon-style, where the meat is cooked in a spicy sauce with vegetables and other items that you can often choose (e.g. rice cakes, ramen, udon noodles, cheese, etc). I've tried to find the best dakgalbi in Seoul, and I feel like I've only scratched the surface.

In the US, I've only had dakgalbi a few times, and before Mhat, I'd been consistently underwhelmed. But Mhat has changed what I think dakgalbi can be in the US. Mhat serves up a version that is excellent, much like the better spots that I've found in Seoul. I didn't get a cheese version, but then again, I'm not really into the Korean trend of putting cheese on everything, so things like dakgalbi and galbi jjim usually go without cheese.

In short, my favorite dakgalbi in the US so far.“

“Everything was just SO good. The food came out so fast too. The portions are HUGE so be sure to order less than the headcount. They are famous for the pork ribs sour kimchi stew so be sure to try it. The summer fish are came with 3 crickets and it was cooked to perfection and not too salty. This place is must try.

It feels like a secret because it’s as cozy and comforting as grandma’s house. This is a spot where everyone goes to for Sundubu (Korean Spicy Tofu Soup served boiling hot), or if they want Naengmyeon (Korean Buckwheat Noodles in a icy tangy broth) on hot summer day, or Bibimbap (Stone-pot Korean mixed rice filled with vegetables and meat with a spicy gochujang sauce and sesame oil)—just something comforting, and what they’re used to. This place has been there forever, and it’s under the same owner who wants to spoil us with her Korean recipes. The interior is pretty small, so it's mostly a food-to-go spot (which is what we did). Service was so friendly and sweet, even gave us some good recommendations.

We ordered spicy tuna kimbap, bulgogi kimbap, pork cutlet, and fried dumpling for a group of 4 to eat. It was a pretty big portion size! The kimbap tins came with probably 15+ rolls. For $12 - $16 per tin, this was such a good deal.

If I lived in the area, I would definitely come back to enjoy more kimbap combinations at the good prices!“
