“If y’all don’t know about Ada’s, y’all should — because they got one of the BEST coffees around town. They are locally sourced and get the most organic beans, and make the BEST pastries. And best of all, they are a 501(c)3 non-profit social enterprise running in the heart of Palo Alto. I work at Cubberley not far from Ada’s, so I have been coming by often and supporting.A big shout out goes to Kathleen, the owner and founder of Ada’s Cafe — she’s absolutely humble and very caring at every customer. She goes above and beyond in support of not only the neurodivergent community, but also for the communities in need in Palo Alto.I ordered a 16oz latte with whole milk on a Friday — and they honestly served it with SO much love and so much belonging. It truly felt like I was at home, but 10x better. The beans had flavor, and the whole milk wasn’t overly saturated. I also appreciated how much love and consideration they put in the croissant sandwich as well, because the ingredients were fresh and not too sweet or too salty at all.It is located next to the Palo Alto Library, and they do close early at 4pm. There is limited indoor seating, but there is a variety of things you can choose from. I would definitely recommend supporting a local business like Ada’s and having your bestie brunch dates here too.Vegetarian options: They have some things you can ask for vegetarian! In fact, most things are vegetarian :)Dietary restrictions: They have different kind of non-dairy options you can choose from! :DParking: Because we’re sharing a parking lot with the Palo Alto Library, there are times where you’re not able to find parking right away. However do not fret, because they usually clear away after a while.Kid-friendliness: Very kid-friendly - most of the kids from Challenger or nearby kids from the surrounding neighborhood come to get an ice cream scone from Ada’s! No wonder that’s why they were this profit-driven — and they’re still running despite the inflation — they get TONS of business from the kids everyday!Wheelchair accessibility: It is wheelchair accessible! Very wheelchair friendly — and they accommodate very openly about who sits there and stuff.“

“Small coffee gem with limited range of food options located at a cozy backyard right off Cal Ave. Ordered a golden latten and a salmon toast and I must say everything was delicious. The coffee had a very good balance between the turmeric and the honey which made this special drink delicious. The salmon toast was also very good with a good amount of salmon. However, I felt like the portion was slightly too small. The coffee shop was very busy on a Sunday morning but service was rather friendly and efficient.“

“A few blocks down University lies Blue Bottle… where they share a space with the Hanahaus. I’ve been to this location a couple of times and it feels quite homey as I love their architecture.I usually go for their pastries and cold brew but this time around, i wanted to try something a little different when it came to drinks. I had the 16oz iced Nola and the butter croissant… needless to say I was quite impressed with the fact that their butter croissant was buttery and fluffy (not too hard even after it started getting a little bit cold). The iced Nola was not watery at all, and I was able to feel the espresso even after the ice melted and all that. The only thing I have in terms of service and atmosphere was the fact that they kinda rushed the process of my order, which I didn’t really appreciate. It’s often full in the afternoon, and there’s not really a lot of places to charge your laptop if you need to work on stuff at the coffee shop, hence the reason why the minus one star. But I would come again.Parking: Keep in mind that in Palo Alto, most free parking is limited to two hours… even in the public parking lots. So you will have to plan accordingly according to that.Kid-friendliness: I wouldn’t say this is a kid-friendly place by too many means, due to the fact that they share a space with Hanahaus and it’s a hub for all the 9-5 workers. But I wouldn’t see why not to bring your kid with you!“

“This spot is a downtown gem, off the beaten track, and open to the public (next to senior center Avenidas). The food is delicious, fresh, and has the “extra flair” that comes from Chef Julien being a passionate foodie and French culinary school trained professional. The fish sandwich is outstanding (I have now had it on three visits!) with beer-based batter (not too much, not greasy, not dry) with at least seven different savors coming through the sauce, fresh veggies, and condiments on the fresh ciabatta bun. I like to have it with a Perrier sparkling water and follow up with tiny raspberry jam-filled beignets and a small americano on the hidden inside patio. Chef Julien is working to expand and improve coffee offerings. He is kind, down-to-earth, and very approachable. And also does catering for events, has a crêpe stand at the Sunday California Avenue Farmer’s Market, and is a private chef. Great value for money.“

“Double (decaf) cappuccino was exceptional (as judged by this self-confessed coffee snob). Sitting outside on a "dry" day was a luxury in this winter of atmospheric rivers. The place is always busy, and little wonder: the espresso drink was very, very good, the atmosphere wonderful, the place super clean, and the staff personable. Overall, a worthy coffee place.Parking: This is downtown Palo Alto, people. It's always busy Saturday mornings, but never so busy that you can't find a spot to sit and sip your coffee or chow down on your breakfast. Their coffee is good, and we're a big fan of their bagels and that's really all we could ask for! This location has lots of seating to come and enjoy a cup, study for a bit, or just swing to go.FoodI ordered the iced mint mojito and got it sweet and creamy. I think that the creaminess that is added is the best way to have this drink. There are a variety of other flavors and tones of coffee as well if you want a standard coffee drink. Pastries are served here if you want a quick bite as well.AtmosphereOpen safe and casual cafe to grab coffee or even study for a bit. Did not see too many wall outlets but I wasn’t paying attention too much. Noise level average for a coffee shop. Plenty of natural lighting though.PricingAverage prices for a coffee and is worth the money since it’s so good!ServiceMy mint mojito came out pretty quick and I was able to go about my day easily. “ZombieRunner is one of my favorite coffee spots in the area. I usually stop by on Sundays when I'm on California Avenue for the farmer's market. The staff members are friendly and make drinks super quickly, and they also offer Midwife and Baker pastries which are always delicious! The store is super small, but you go down to the end, order at the counter, and then come back near the door to pick up your order. There isn't any seating inside, but they do have a few tables outside (most people just take everything to go). My favorite drink here is the seasonal Chocolate Orange Zombie, which I get iced, but I also really love the iced Turkish Chai (basically a dirty chai latte). My only ask is to PLEASE offer larger sizes!! I love these drinks so much and would love for one drink to last me longer than the time it takes to get back to my car, haha.“

Peet's Coffee Coffee & Tea • $
77 Town and Country Vlg, Palo Alto

“I am a huge fan of Peet's coffee! They have a wonderful selection of drinks with options for alternative milk if you are lactose intolerant or desire something different. They also have a simple and yet wide variety of pastries and sandwiches. I think when I appreciate the most about Peet's is that it tastes like coffee. Other places seem to overdo it with the sugar and sometimes it taste more like syrup and hot water than anything else. This particular branch is located near the Stanford University campus. You can expect to find all types of people working, studying, and conversing there. the day we visited happen to be my birthday and it was such a wonderful morning out. It was foggy, cold, and a perfect time to get something warm to drink and warm to eat. The service was amazing and very quick! Walking in, you are met with warm lights with warm tones the noise is average may be even quieter but definitely not a place that sounds like it's a mess. I enjoyed actually sitting down and having a cup of coffee with my fiancé. If you happen to be in the area looking for a good cup of Joe, and maybe even a short break from sitting in your car, be sure to stop by this place in the morning. it would do you well to help out the traffic and also a great time to start the morning a little more calm.“

“Honestly, before I came to this location, I was not a fan of Peet's! I had been to multiple Peet's locations and nothing ever really stood out to me.I started coming here 2-3 times a week because of how close my work is. This is where I learned to love the establishment. I am an avid matcha latte fan. For the longest time I was getting my matcha lattes here wrong! I always wondered why they never tasted that good, and I realized it was just because I wasn't tailoring it to my liking.Mirella is my favorite! She helped me figure out that I should substitute the simple syrup in the matcha latte with honey syrup, and I eventually learned to add extra matcha so that I could taste more matcha flavor. She and the other baristas are always super friendly, even when I stop by at 6:15 am on a weekday (I know everyone is just waking up too, but they're always up there with warm and welcoming attitudes).Definitely better than any other Peet's location out there. Wonderful people, wonderful drinks, everything is perfect. Wouldn't change a thing!(No seating inside or outside btw - just a grab & go type of place.)“

VMware Hilltop F Coffee & Tea • $$
3429 Hillview Ave, Palo Alto

“Definitely the best cafe out of the three in VMware! Having lunch here is definitely one of the highlights of my work day. The menu is different everyday and I rarely see items repeated. The chefs here create unique dishes and like to experiment with mixing flavors from different cultures. My problem with this cafe is the options are sometimes TOO good and I can't decide what I want! Several of the stations allow you to order half plates, so I often get two half plates from different stations so I get to try both! The different stations here are: - sauté (typically a pasta or sautéed dish) - brick (typically a pizza or other baked item) - umami (asian dish, mostly Korean) - sushi (rolls, nigiri, etc) - grill (with daily specials of seared and sandwich option and other typical grill options like burgers and fries) - rolled (Indian wrap) - spiced (Indian dishes, typically 3 types a day) - salad bar - make your own sandwich bar - soups The umami station is new as of 2018 and so far, the dishes have been very good! Some examples include Korean ramen, bibimbap, pho, and fried chicken. The rolled station with the Indian wraps is also very good and a good deal! For $7, you get a full wrap that includes a daily dish (e.g. chicken tikka masala or something similar), egg, onions, and lettuce. Plus, you get a side of either fruit or yogurt rice. The yogurt rice is only available Wed-Fri, but I highly recommend it! Plus, there are freshly made drinks that are free to employees and a small fee for non-employees. There's usually a daily option of an agua fresca, spa water, tea, and lemonade. Also, get a seat in the back if you can! As it's name suggests, the Hilltop Cafe is located on top of a hill and the view is quite nice. It does get pretty crowded around noon, so I would suggest either coming at 11:30 am or at 1 pm after the lunch crowd dies down.“
