“Tucked behind velvet curtains in Civic Center, Dingles Public House feels like stepping into a polished London pub—moody lighting, deep green walls, and just enough theatrical charm to make a pint feel essential. It’s a rare thing in San Francisco: a place fully committed to British comfort food, executed with care rather than gimmick.
But the real reason to come? Two classics done right: fish & chips and the scotch egg.
Fish & Chips
This is the kind of plate that reminds you why the dish became iconic in the first place. The cod is flaky and moist, wrapped in a beer batter that strikes the right balance—crisp without feeling heavy or greasy. The chips lean properly British: thick-cut, soft-centered, and built for soaking up malt vinegar. What elevates it is the full spread—tartare, curry sauce, and mushy peas—giving you multiple ways to work through each bite.
It may not reinvent the dish, but it doesn’t need to—it’s comforting, well-executed, and exactly what you want from a proper pub plate.
Scotch Egg
If there’s a must-order here, it’s this. The scotch egg arrives with a crisp, golden exterior giving way to a perfectly soft, just-set yolk—rich, savory, and deeply satisfying. The house-made sausage wrap adds a layer of spiced depth, while a touch of acidity (often from pickles or sauce) cuts through the richness beautifully.
It’s the kind of dish you instinctively order “for the table”… and then quietly wish you didn’t have to share.“

“What a fantastic spot in the financial district! We were staying in town for a wedding, and this was such a great spot close to our hotel. Patrick (the owner) and his team were all a 10/10! Can’t wait to return.“

“So… this is sort of an SF institution for beer in SF, having had craft beers now for a tad longer than some of the more trendy, upscale bars and pubs that seem to come and go now all too frequently. Basically, if you call yourself knowledgeable about SF bars and haven't hung out here a few times you ain't nuthin. Having been around a lot longer than a lot of now hipper places, The Sycamore promises a concentrated evening of beer or boozing in the evenings, while the back (and now Covid street!) patios can be packed, particularly when the sun is out and/or the nights are warm. The ambience and vibe is that of a local place to come drink, the bartenders and owners generally know their stuff, keeping an eye on the neighborhood and the guests in the manner which they deserve. In general, the Sycamore can be an excellent refuge from the cold, a place to cogitate the meaning of it all alone , or to go with a small to large group of friends who want a tight grungy night out. Coat-tails and gowns are a rarity here, so much so that I have vowed that are some point in my life that I'm going to get dressed to the nines and hang out there for several hours… just to see if I get a stern eye from the bar! 🤨🫠🤨😇🤨🤭“

“Great experience. Super friendly quick service, great screens to watch games. Lively atmosphere. Sometimes super packed, but can often find a seat. Really tasty and generous portioned food. Went on a night with a lot of seemingly finance bros in attendance. Lol.“

“Every time we come to San Francisco they are the first place we have dinner. The funny thing is that the same two seats at the bar are open that we sat the first time lol. Great food! Great staff! Professional and just great guys behind that bar.“

“Radhaus feels like one of those places you stumble into and immediately think, “yeah, I’m staying awhile.” Tucked right by Fort Mason with that ridiculous Bay view, it has this cozy, slightly European energy that makes a casual hang turn into a full-on sit-down situation. Long tables, big windows, the kind of place where strangers end up sharing space and no one minds.
The beer lineup is where things get fun. German-style, super clean, dangerously drinkable. I went in thinking I would have one and leave, and that plan fell apart quickly. We paired it with sausages and a giant pretzel that showed up warm and perfectly salted, the kind you tear into without waiting for anyone else at the table. It is hearty in a way that feels earned, especially if you walked there along the water.
There is something about Radhaus that hits differently than your typical beer spot. Maybe it is the view, maybe it is the vibe, maybe it is the second beer talking, but it just works. It is a little lively, a little laid-back, and exactly the kind of place you end up recommending to people without overexplaining why.“

“We didn't see a show so the crowd was gone by the time we ate so it was not too noisy to carry on a conversation. The food was delicious and I highly recommend the brussel sprouts and chicken salad. The salad was full of fresh chicken!“

“Came from Los Angeles to stay at the Marriott Marquis and our server at The View - the terrific lounge on the 39th floor - said the burger here was worthwhile. She was ? right. The burger itself was flavorful and the crunchy, but soft bun and the jalapeño aioli were just right. The picture here is of the Bavarian soft pretzel that we had as an appetizer - it came out hot and the beer cheese was crazy good. The restaurant’s interior is very basic/seat yourself and the noise level is HIGH. Prices are typical for a hotel, but I’d go back for this meal again if I return to the Marriott.“
