“This place is hopping, even on weekdays! I’m so glad to see a business doing well in this spot by the San Lorenzo post office. Of course, I had to try chang fen! I opted for the BBQ pork and dried shrimp combo for the filling, and I added scallions for a small upcharge. Most of the dishes offer several modification options. I was slightly worried that the dried shrimp flavor would be overwhelming, but it dissolved well into the soy-based sauce. The barbecue flavor was sweet but slightly smoky. I appreciated the vegetal zing the scallions brought to the dish. Do add some of the mild, yet lively, vinegar sauce on the table. The chile sauce also deserves a shout-out.

Great steamed walnut buns, and I also enjoyed the Liwan congee, but I think the simpler chicken or beef is what I'll opt for next time.“

It’s the kind of place where the guy tossing the dough might also ring you up, and he’ll probably remember your order next time. No gimmicks, no fancy toppings trying to be something they’re not just solid, honest pizza done right.“

From the subtle and fabulous Black Cod, to the seasonal appetizers ( last night - heirloom tomatoes with melon in a gazpacho marinade) to great desserts- you can’t go wrong. Our server Nicki was knowledgeable and fun! We usually enjoy the expertise of their wonderful sommelier, but last night we brought our own wine - the same we drank at our wedding. They graciously comped the corkage for our anniversary! Not requested or expected but such a sweet gesture. OMG, Unbelievable sandwiches, smoked meats, homemade pickles, peppers🫑 and memorable pulled pork, etc. I hang out for a few minutes while Jerry makes my Cuban sandwich, and he has me try their smoked bacon, homemade meatballs, and more. “Crazy Block Cheese is my new favorite BBQ spot in Oakland! I love everything about this place the anime artwork is dope, and the atmosphere has great energy. The owner, Ben, was really friendly and enthusiastic. He takes time to engage with all his customers and takes pride in the fresh-made food and sauces.

My wife and I ordered the three-protein combo meal, and it was more than enough for both of us. We had the beef rib, brisket, and pulled chicken, all were juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The sauces were hella good too. For sides, we got the mac and cheese and cornbread. They accidentally gave us collard greens at first but Ben fixed it right away, no problem. The cornbread was also really good! The beef ribs and brisket is my favorite.

This is hands down the best value meal you can get. Most BBQ spots overcharge and leave you disappointed, but here you get high-quality food at a fair price. I also love that they use local ingredients. Great food, great vibe, good music, great people perfect spot to bring friends or family.“

“I really loved the Lao Special menu. You can order small portion of diverse foods. I ordered several items I have never eaten before, and they were all fantastic. The fermented pork sausage was the most "out there" dish from an American point of view: I didn't even know such a thing existed. Nice interior, and the service is great. This is some of the best Laotian food I've tried in the Bay. It turns out the portions are pretty generous, so I took soke home for another meal.“

They also have loaded quesadillas with fries and their signature spicy sauce which are amazing. They also have a good variety of shakes. We’ve had the mango and the Oreo Never Boreo.“

“Hard to reserve seats at this 8 seat only Omakase behind an unmarked door in Alameda. Led by a quality, experience, and diner education obsessed chef who personally selects and imports most of the seafood from Japan.

It is a personally catered omakase bar service of very high quality. They also have a lovely sake selection.

“I got the Apple Fritter and custard filled bar. My friend got an assortment including some vegan doughnuts. The Apple Fritter was great but the filling in the bar had an aftertaste that I wasn’t a fan of and the chocolate topping started melting off faster than I expected. The maple glazed old fashioned was super yummy and I think that’s what I’ll get when I go back. The people who ate the vegan ones were very pleased that they had them and really enjoyed the flavors. They also have a great variety of drinks and coffee.“
