“After our Altadena house burned down, we relocated to Barker Block and absolutely love being so close to Manuela. We used to have a fire table like yours, so dining here always carries a sense of home. Last night we brought friends, and they said, ‘This makes it hard to go out to eat in Monrovia—our restaurants cut corners with cheap ingredients and fast turnover.’ What your chefs create is the opposite: dishes with not just incredible flavor but extraordinary texture and detail. Their expertise is off the charts, and I highly recommend.“

“The asparagus fries. Crispy & not greasy. You can appreciate the asparagus flavor. We split the Thai spicy salad. It was spicy, but the Thai basil & the peanut dressing were the stars. It didn't need the chicken. The best was the ribeye melt. The meat was cooked perfectly.The sourdough was crusted with parmesan. With a side of horseradish that was perfectly paired for this sandwich.“

The seating was comfortable, and the replicas of famous paintings was cool. It is worth mentioning again that the pancakes are head and shoulders above any other that I've tried. For a quick grab and go sandwich shop, I would highly recommend off of service alone. The bread is a nice e compliment to the meat alongside the veggies and dressing. Don't skip on this place just because it's a sandwich shop. Will be going back again next time we visit.“

“This was our first time dining at Little Beast, and our meal and service were excellent.
We sat in the covered patio area and started with the beet salad with burrata on a bed of arugula that we shared. For a person who has disliked beets their entire life, I have been slowly working to try them more often. Surprisingly, I liked the salad a lot and would order it again.
For my main meal, I had the Porterhouse pork chop, which is the first time I ever had this cut, and it was quite good. It was tender and juicy. It was also a little undercooked close to the bone, but I suppose that is not unusual considering you wouldn't want it to be dry and tough from overcooking. They were very kind to substitute any gluten items I couldn't eat for another non-gluten item. Because of this, I was able to try the kimchi rice cake, and that thing is a craveable morsel. My husband had the grilled flat iron steak. It was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. It came with chausser sauce, which is a rich dark sauce made with wine and mushrooms. It's so good I could drink it, lol.“

SPAGHETTI IS BETTER THAN THE SPAGHETTI AT UNION. Reminds me of an NYC restaurant - really nice, low key and GREAT food. Very comfortable. The server was a total dork - super nice, unpretentious and funny, asked me if I trust her twenty seconds after we met (I bet she plays Tetris). The music had no F’s left to give in the best way possible - definitely heard some Jefferson Starship in there and one of those songs that could be Chicago or REO Speedwagon. “Was super happy with our dinner at Hippo. Every dish was delicious. The brussel sprouts and cauliflower starters had excellent flavors. All the pastas we tried had incredible depth of flavor without being overly heavy or greasy. The hippo rolls and table focaccia were excellent and the chicken thighs were to die for. Only thing that was lackluster was the passion fruit gelato. Fun vibe, lots of seating, and great service!“

“We love JB Burgers. Why? For one, the food is great. I get a steak sandwich all the time. No mayo, due to a diet constraint. Sometimes I'll get a bowl of chili ... or if I'm in the mood, I'll get a stack of french toast with my steak sandwich. Yes, that's a lot of food!

Steak sandwich - The french roll is good. The steak is a nice piece of meat and it has great flavor. They put tomatoes and lettuce. The tomatoes are good. The lettuce adds a crisp crunch, but there's a lot of white lettuce. The steak sandwich is a must!

My better half gets a guacamole burger. Tasty and the guac adds some healthiness AND the creamy texture replaces mayo, 1000 Island or any other sauce that's not healthy.

The chili is good! When it's chilly or on a rainy day, it's good comfort food!

French Toast - this is good stuff. They give you a lot and it's made well. Taste is really good and they use a thicker bread - yummm!

Now to the wonderful staff! 95% of the time we've had good to exceptional service. I order inside the restaurant - makes sense since we're eating inside. One time, this gal told me I could not order inside and she made me go outside to order. I told her I order inside all the time, but she didn't want to listen. I almost left, but I saw the familiar faces there, so I ordered outside. The next time I saw her there, she let me order inside.

I try to get to JB's at least once a week. They're my go to!
