I love coming into Sierra Madre, a tiny gorgeous little place that lets me forget the hustle and bustle of the city. The restaurant itself is cozy and the service awesome. The food is delicious and tastes fresh. I have had the mushroom risotto and the chicken dish that was fabulous. The salads are also fresh, light and tasty. The desserts were wonderful. Not heavy, not powerful sweet, just perfect. I had the creme burlee on one occasion and the brownie on another. We have tried other restaurants in the area, but for me this is my go-to when in Sierra Madre.“
“This place felt like home. As on out-of-towner the long line went quick by talking to people about how great this place is. They warned me on the Howlin’ heat level but I had to try it. I went to order and Justin was great vibes! He talked me down from two Howlin’ wings to just one. Good looks my friend. I went with a Country Sando. Medium wing. Howlin’ wing.The guy that gave me my order handed me some gloves for the Howlin’!!Medium wing was solid, could definitely eat a whole meal of that.Sando makes me cry just thinking about it. I don’t normally go for slaw, but I didn’t want to rob the sandwich of how the chef created it. Man I’m glad I was right, that thing was perfect.Howlin’ was great dry rub, made me cry and sweat pretty good. Slow burn that kept climbing and wouldn’t let up haha! “Food was amazing! The service was bad! Very expensive but I expected to be better taken care of. They were fully staffed but no one seemed to be working efficiently. We were 8 and none of the food runners ever knew who ordered what. They had to ask on every plate they brought. Not just our table but others as well. I don’t know if they have busboys as our table was never cleared. Plates upon plate stacked up. No one asked if we wanted a second drink and the glasses were never picked up. When we ordered dessert we had to move the 16 empty drink and water glasses to one side, gather the bread plates, wipe everything down and wait for our desserts. It was a busy night but not too busy for bad service. I kinda expected more than diner service at such an expensive restaurant.“

I ordered the onion soup and beef tartare. Supposedly onion soup is their signature dish, but it was really salty, I was a bit disappointed…. Because it was a $20 bowl of soup. The beef tartare was excellent, it would be nice if they offer one extra slice of bread and some more salad leaves. I was happy that they have half bottle of wine that I can order. Wine list is quite nice.“
“Cons: (LONG WAIT EVEN AFTER HAVING RESERVATIONS). I had 6:30pm reservation for my fiancé birthday and had a show to go to at 9pm. We didn’t get seated til about 7pm with no place to really wait but stand at the front of the restaurant with limited space. We didn’t get our food til about 8pm so we had to rush and swallow our food to make it to our 9pm show. We didn’t get to try their butter cake ☹️Pros: the food was delicious. I had the salmon and my fiancé had the sea bass. We also had the truffle ( basically a pizza/flat bread). We were both impressed how tasteful the food was (just wished we had more time to savor our food a bit more). The ambiance is nice and romantic with dim lighting. We sat upstairs as requested per my reservation so that was nice. Drinks were perfect as well. I had a skinny margarita. Also, the manager came over and apologized about the delay and he definitely made it up to us, because of this gesture, it made our experience at NICKS an overall pleasant one.Overall, we will definitely be back. I am now aware that having reservations won’t really matter and there’s a possibility of still waiting to be seated. So expect a wait even to get your food. I think better planning on my end now that i know how it is, so we’re not rushed out or anything, would make it an even better experience. “We really enjoyed our experience here. In fact, I have shared with several people since then how much I enjoyed being there, and the fact that it was the best meal I have had for sometime. We had the pork chops and salmon. In particular, we felt the meals were very tasty, well presented, and the carrot cake dessert was unique and simultaneously light and decadent. The service was also excellent. Our drinks were regularly filled, and someone was always checking in with us to make sure all of our needs were fulfilled. The only thing I would change is better signage for parking. It was unclear which parking lot was specific for the restaurant, and because the road is one way, we both, in our separate cars, ended up having to go all the way around the block before figuring out precisely where to go. I had to call for specific instructions, and the person with me called me for further instructions. Better signage outside, and also signage for precisely where to once you get out of your car, would be helpful. Also, since you can only park on one side of the parking lot, signage for that would also be helpful.“

“Historical Pasadena restaurant that some people forget about. I hadn’t been here for years until this evening. I’d give 5 stars, but my pork chop was dry and little overcooked. Everything else was wonderful, including the drinks. It’s very intimate inside, but as the restaurant fills up it gets quite loud. The patio is covered and heated, but you may find yourself having to talk over the nearby tables or road noise. Valet parking only, $8 at the time of this review. There is street parking available on Fair Oaks though.“

“I recently moved to the area and this was our first time at The Proper Restaurant but it most certainly won't be our last. Everything ... and I mean everything was excellent! I started out with the Proper Clover Club cocktail and it was so refreshing and delicious. My husband and I then shared the white chicken chili which was equally delicious. For our entrees, my husband ordered the miso salmon which was out of this world and I got the chicken piccata. The chicken was cooked perfectly, lightly breaded and the pasta was tossed in a wonderful lemonny piccata. I also had a Malbec which was so smooth, I wanted to order the whole bottle (but alas, I did not). And since everything else was so good, we couldn't leave without ordering dessert -- the warm butter toffee cake. My mouth is still watering thinking about it. I can't wait to go back to The Proper Restaurant!“

“I once had a bad experience at the Burbank location. However this place seems to have gotten their act together. The food was fine a little small but fine. But the drinks, drink menu and bartenders were impressive. Attentive bartenders despite the ample size of this place. Knowledgeable too. I had 2 penicillins and a Hemingway daiquiri. My associate had a sidecar bourbon and wine. I've had drinks at the bar and outside where the bartenders open up a window and you are served from the outside. Pretty cool“

I've been trying new restaurants in the area and decided to pop in early on a Fri nite. Got a seat at the counter overlooking the chef preparing all the meals. Ordered a rose, very tasty. Short ribs with mash potatoes. Amazing! I will definitely be back to try more things. Highly recommend. We really don't have anything like this in Pasadena.“

Driving through Old Town Monrovia after 9 pm looking for a place to eat and found JB Burgers. We didn't want just a burger, and was happy to see that their menu had a good mix of food and each of us could find something we liked. You order at a window on the street side. The inside seating was closed because it was almost closing time, so we took it to go and ate in the car but they did offer us to use the patio seating (it was a little too chilly out). Everyone enjoyed their food. I had the pork chops which were excellent. The plate comes with two thin cut pork chops. They weren't dry and had great grill flavor. The staff were very friendly and knew the ingredients of the menu. We would definitely stopped there again when in Monrovia for a quick bite to eat.“

With the overcast and expected light drizzle, the outdoor fireplace was very inviting, so much so we decided to have lunch there. We entered and were greeted by Jennifer. She was pleasant and helpful with answering questions we had while placing our order. Once you've ordered you are given a number and your food will be brought out to you. The outdoor seating is cozy, comfortable and spacious. I like that we had the option of couch, bar style or table and chair seating. The food arrived quickly! Parker our server was friendly, attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. He even lowered the shade to make sure the wind or drizzle didn't bother us while we dined. You could feel the warmth and intention of his customer service, there's the doing what's required and then you get the rarity of someone like Parker. Thanks for your welcoming energy and great service! I had steak, roasted potatoes and garlic parmesan mushrooms. Food presentation was good and everything was seasoned well. Plates were left on the table between courses necessitating the server to clear them. The food was very good. It's not fine dining—does not pretend to be so—it's more akin to the casera vibe. It's as if you were eating at a friend's home, albeit a friend that really knows how to cook. We sampled the chicken and the pork chop. The chicken was outstanding. As we all know, chicken is a challenging protein to cook perfectly. And it was. It arrived hot and juicy and expertly seasoned. My comment on the pork is only representing my own flavor profile; I found it to be needing a bit more pan sauce. And, for me, the Dijon mustard came on a bit too strong and overwhelmed the delicacy of the subtle pork flavor. We really enjoyed the ambience. Both outside and inside were a comfortable environment to enjoy a nice, un rushed meal. We will return.“

In an Italian restaurant?Beet salad with literally one slice of beet and 1.5 bites of cabbage?It was like getting served after dinner mint sized portions for your actual meal.Server was nice, I’d give a 4 out of 5 since he did not follow up at all after the initial order or check on drinks.Oh and an automatic 20% gratuity on the check.All in all the food is tasty, service is good by today’s lower standards, but the price to value ratio is -5 starsBut hey if you’re on a diet, this is the place to go!!! 5 bites and your whole meal is done!!Might be worth a chance to try again on a regular menu and dining evening…we’ll see“
“In the quaint, clean and old town of Sierra Madre lays one of the best diners in town. Actually, it’s the only diner in town. The rest are pubs, pizza, places, Taquerias, coffee, shops, and vintage stores! The service was fantastic. Here, you feel like people know you and love you even though, you only see them when driving through town once in a blue moon. It is mostly old folks in here which is great because I will be an old person sooner rather than later myself! Also, it’s nice to be around human beings that are talking to each other, and chewing slowly, instead of taking pictures of their food, as I have done here, or even worse taking selfies And watching TikTok videos instead of paying attention of the person across the table from themselves. The price of the food is reasonable for the environment and service provided in this wonderful and magical place. My coffee cup was cracked and spilled on the table and still, I give this place five stars because they replaced the cup, and my experience continued to be top-notch Regardless. Will I be back? Most definitely. Probably when I’m 90 years old.“
