“Amazing hole in wall. Very pleasant individuals explaing their menu. The coffee is very good; Honey Laveneder latte seems to he their signature and it doesn't disappoint. From the menu we tried the Avocado Toast and Ful plate. Both items were tasty and it was enough to share between two. The Ful came with warm bread, possibly freshly baked. It was an enjoyable experience. Definitely worth the visit and a must try.“

“Both hands up for this wonderful coffee place I happened to stumble upon, right outside the skirts of Downtown Berkeley. They're located right on the intersection of MLK and University, right behind the Indian restaurant.

This coffee place is honestly a little bit small, so please proceed with caution at all costs. But it really makes you feel cozy at home. They do have upstairs seating, but rather really limited. It will be full at times, and at times, not at all. It depends on the time that you go.

They have a wide assortment of sweet and savory pastries available as well. I got their ham & cheese scone, as well as their speciality drink, their banana cream iced coffee. I love how balanced their iced coffee is with the banana cream, which surprisingly, is made with ACTUAL banana puree made from actual bananas.

The barista who made my drink was very nice and very chill, and served it rather quick. That's what's up!

I recently ordered mini sfogliatelles, cannolis, (3) meter long pizzas n wonder focaccia bread to make sandwiches and their famous olive bread sticks!!! Thanks for the beautiful foods and service!!! “Honestly I love the food, the interior, and the menu - the food is delicious, creative, a little upscale feeling and clearly a lot of attention and care is put into it from ingredients to preparation. I love the variety and seasonality, and it’s one of the few places where you can get those delicious little coconut griddle cakes, and things are easy to share and portions are nice. AND your thai coffee/tea is made with CONDENSED SWEETENED OAT MILK!!!! WHAT?! (I cannot do dairy so this is the best news ever)

Interior is super charming and the seating is very comfy and bathroom is clean, cute, service is always friendly and the staff presents well. My huge gripe - believe it or not - is the service is inconsistent. One time I went there when there was barely anyone in the restaurant, and only one person was working and, it took an eternity to get served. And then I went today, the restaurant was full, and there were two or three servers working, and literally we were getting interrupted every five minutes, asking if we’re doing OK, people coming to the table to pour water, telling us the kitchen is about to close, asking again if everything’s OK, too many concerns, etc., like too attentive to the point of not being able to have a conversation - insanely annoying. Also, the restaurant is quite small inside, and yet they blast music SO loud loudly that everyone is shouting to have a conversation, and because the space is small, you can hear your neighbors TOO WELL if they raise their voice even a little bit. REALLY ANNOYING when you’re trying to enjoy a cute lunch.“

“So beautiful. So delicious. All the pastries look like works of art. I personally love the Horseshoe and Jalousie pastry. It’s not too sweet, wonderfully flaky, and very flavorful. The coffee is authentically strong which I really enjoy. The staff is welcoming and friendly. I truly enjoyed visiting and can’t wait to come back!!“

“Most of the bagel sandwiches come open faced and you can mix & match two different halves, which I love. My favorites are the Bartavalle, Brusco, and Gold Standard. The fennel orange latte with homemade syrup is tasty and well balanced.
They make good use of the small space and have several spaces to sit, including some outdoor seating.

“I’ve only had their smoothies and tasted the ice cream . It’s pretty good haven’t been disappointed . Thai tea ice cream is fire 🔥 . They do close early , earlier than their posted hours though sometimes a half hour early so best to arrive over an hour before they close . I haven’t tried their banh mi but they do seem pricey at nearly 18 dollars each!“

“I've been coming for breakfast and lunch every other week for the past several months. The food is tasty and prepared with care, and the service is very good. The bagel with lox is generously portioned with plenty of capers and onions. The breakfast burrito is tasty and very balanced between the chorizo and other ingrediets. All the sandwiches have a great balance of ingredients, are generous, but not oversized. The house coffees are nice blends. What I mean by prepared with care is that nothing is greasy or over salty, meaning it is purposely prepared and assembled carefully, and ingredients chosen and the dish seasoned with attention so the end result is great. Take the breakfast burrito, for example - most places, there would be grease and juices dripping out, but Ruby's is very clean and tasty - you can eat with one hand without worrying it will drip onto your arm.“

“This is a hidden gem! Vy’s homemade lemongrass tofu banh mi are the best banh mi in the bay! I’ve never had such good tofu banh mi, including in my travels throughout Vietnam! After I tasted her banh mi, I immediately returned to buy another. I even brought my family here when they visited from out of town.

Vy and her father are also kind, friendly, and welcoming. Truly amazing service and great prices. Their thai tea boba and their special happy hour deal is great.

“As a huge fans of acai bowl or any smoothie bowls, I really recommend this place. Among smoothie bowl places that i’ve been visited in Bay Area, this place has one of the most aesthetically pleasing bowls. The price is a bit higher compare to other smoothie bowl places, but it is worth it since they offer great variety of topping. The taste and the texture are okay. For me, I have anothe smoothie bowl place that I like more than this place in term of the taste, however, aesthetically-wise this palm-acai cafe is the winner“

“Best coffee and croissant I’ve ever had. The opening barista Ben is also super nice and personable. Eventually it would be awesome if this place upgraded to a larger venue with in-door seating but, for the space they have, they make the absolute most of it.

Had to dock a couple points for atmosphere since the shop is five feet from a busy roadway (but if you arrive early enough then there’s usually no cars driving by). Please save a croissant for me. <3“

“Oh my gosh, this bakery is incredible! From the moment you step inside, you’re enveloped in warmth and hospitality. The customer service is top-notch, and I couldn’t stop smiling. I tried the chicken empanada and the chocolate cannoli, and both were absolutely delicious. I’ve had my fair share of cannolis, but this one truly stands out. “Mey Café is truly one of Berkeley's hidden gems! The date latte is unlike anything I've had before, rich, perfectly balanced, and absolutely delicious. Their pastries are all fantastic, but my personal favorites are the blueberry scone and the tiramisu. Everything is made fresh by the wonderful owner, Sanaz, and you can really taste the care and quality in every bite.
The atmosphere is warm, vibrant, and incredibly welcoming. They even have a cozy little corner filled with cute toys and books to keep kids happily entertained while parents enjoy their coffee. Such a thoughtful touch. Wednesday story time is absolutely adorable.

“Great local and family owned coffee shop. It's small but we appreciated the space and the wonderful service very friendly and she made our breakfast sandwiches to order. They take cash, Venmo, and Zelle just a heads up but that wasn't an issue for us. Would highly recommend to anyone.“

“Really good for what it is. We came on a Sat evening at 6pm (they close at 7pm). We were there until 715pm, and people were still chilling outside eating. 7-8 groups of ppl from 2 to 7 pplv in each group. Nice atmosphere, outdoor space is cute, music not loud, and she changed it when it was too 60's (most of us were in our 40's or younger).
We had the sliders (3 diff burgers, one chicken) and they were good, with fries = $22. Perfect for 2 of us girls. And we had 2 canned beers from Oakland brewery = $10 each. They were good too. Total with tax was $46.

The roti is so fresh - perfectly crispy and chewy. The spices on the food and house coconut dipping sauce offered so much flavor - we were all blown away. Our kids loved the Thai Tea. We all liked it a lot. The foam on my golden chai was lovely. I’d reorder it anytime. I tried my mate’s latté with oat milk, I can recommend it. The pastries we ordered were all worth the consumption. I’m so glad there was one pretzel cheese bun left. It was delicious even though it wasn’t warm. I highly recommend them. We also ordered a quiche, a chocolate croissant, and an almond pastry. They were all superb. The almond pastry which was super light and flaky tasted like baklava more so than an almond filling. I liked the vibe here. So often I want to grab my order and split, not here. I felt fine taking refuge from the outside environs. The staff were sweet regardless of their spoken English being nearly impossible to understand. It was cool assuming they were part of the refugee program. It felt good being a patron there and the inspired conversation it led to. I am sure my party was surprised I was already knowledgeable about the topic on current refugees. That made our café and conversation time only that much more enjoyable.“
