I ordered the potato pancakes served with sour cream, house-made applesauce, and a sausage, and every bite was flavorful and satisfying. I also had the chance to sample my husband’s pancakes and my daughter’s potato salad, and everything across the table was consistently delicious.

“I was in the Richmond area and I didn’t want any fast food. So I googled soul food/caterers near me and Soulfully Dope Kitchen pops up. From the moment I spoke to Chef Brittni I knew I wanted to make an order. She was very courteous, professional and let me tell you she didn’t disappoint when it came to the food. It was pipping hot, fresh and everything that I was looking for. I got the loaded baked potato, chicken Alfredo pasta an order of peach bombs (peach cobbler egg rolls) and special blueberry lemonade. I will be back and back with friends!“

We tried:
• Pad Thai Tofu — recommend but their Tofu isn’t deep fried like some other places. Maybe Inquire or push for this if it’s important.
• Mushroom Dumplings 🥟 — also recommend
• Mango Sticky Rice — decent; not the best I’ve had, but still enjoyable
• Deep Fried Veggie Rolls — pretty good
• Thai Iced Tea — solid and refreshing

We had 50+ guests and there was plenty of food to go around with leftovers at the end which is always an added bonus. The variety of apps, entrees, and desserts available blew me away and eventually I settled on a mix of veggie and meat dishes for the party. My favorite dishes were the brisket sliders and the garlic noodles. I ate everything so it was hard to pick a favorite. My guests were pleased with the selection and it made for a perfect birthday celebration. I want to plan another event soon just so I can try more of Henry's creations! The venue itself is beautiful, clean, spacious, and thoughtfully maintained. & a kitchen space could be included in the rental. It’s the kind of space you can easily imagine transformed for a special event. But what really stood out was CJ’s kindness and humanity.

We had just lost our wedding venue only weeks before our wedding. An incredibly stressful and emotional situation and CJ was beyond understanding and compassionate. He was willing to work with us, took the time to listen to our needs, and never made us feel rushed or pressured. Even more impressively, he went above and beyond by connecting us with another venue that ended up being a better fit for our wedding, even while we were actively touring his space.

That level of integrity, empathy, and genuine care is rare. City View Commissary is not only a lovely venue, but it’s run by people who truly care about others and that matters.
