“We’re visiting from Florida, and after a long day of hiking we decided to stop by and I’m so glad we did. The ambiance, food, and service were all excellent. Everything came out hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious.

Jason, one of the owners, was incredibly accommodating and a great host. He took a moment to come by our table and chat with us, which made the experience feel even more personal and welcoming.

Overall, I’d give this place a 10/10. Would definitely come back if we’re ever in the area again.“

“As other reviewer said the parking and seating are limited so I recommend going before noon time for lunch. We tried three chicken tacos and three steak tacos and the fresh tortillas were absolutely outstanding. The food quality was very good! The service at the counter was really good. Staff are polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. Beware this place is absolutely packed and a bit of a madhouse because of all the customers but I think that’s part of the charm!! I highly recommend this tiny niche in a shopping mall for some authentic Mexican flavor.👏🏻🌶“

Great pizza and tasty. I did over cook slightly, but that's my fault. We haven't been to Papa Murphy's in years and they will be our go to pizza place. I don't mind cooking our own pizza at home, such a better taste.

“Grannys is a great place to eat. The food is good and the portions are a nice size. Unfortunately because of Bidenomics they have had to make some changes to price and portion sizes. It’s not their fault it’s just the way it is at the moment. As far as service goes, it all depends on who’s working. If Kristin (owner)is there you are going to get great service. She wants you to return. She gets it. Unfortunately if Renee (owner)is there service can vary depending on who’s in the restaurant. She seems to be very chatty; and that’s the problem. She forgets shes working and service suffers. We will drive up, look in the window to see who’s working. It’s gotten that bad.“

“Glad I finally got around to trying this place. I ordered the Chicken Won Ton soup and my friend got the Pad Thai. Started with some vegetable spring rolls. Everything was delicious and not too expensive. Definitely recommend giving them a try.“

The owner makes everything fresh, service was FANTASTIC, waitress/cashier we had was so friendly, and just the right amount of attentive. The owner came out to ask how we liked the food- he was VERY personable, humble, and makes things with heart! Many of the recipes are family recipes! Our favorite new place! ( don’t be fooled by the location, this place is a true gem!)“

“Good food and dining experience, save for exceptions, given that some people and their newborn children were dining in the same area that I would be, using the flat screen for preschool media on YouTube. Preschool media and I do not mix, and it's one of the causes for my anxieties. I felt very uncomfortable mentally, and I sort of, but not really, got the impression that I was at a daycare place instead of a diner. I really don't want history repeating itself. The fact that there are password-protected Wi-Fi networks for the restaurant showing up on my iPhone is not helping. I could barely access my YouTube app and look at videos to drown so much out. Aside from that, there have been other unique dining experiences here, and I'm willing to recommend it. I just needed to get that negative experience off my chest. I'm sharing it with my therapist as well.“

“Very good food. I worked with Mr jimmy years ago before he had his food trucks and retired. He always talked about his wife’s food and plans after retirement. Wonderful family he would give $100 to a new pregnant momma to be. A gift for the baby. Jimmy always liked to help others I have nothing but good memories what a kind man. “The food and customer service are generally excellent! However, today a waitress tried to charge me for a refill of my to-go cup of strawberry lemonade. I typically request this and have never been charged for a water/lemon refill. Thankfully, one of the more experienced waitresses stepped in and took care of the refill for me. 🙌🏻“

“We stopped at Chapala Grill while visiting Visalia and absolutely loved it! The service was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the start.

The bean dip, salsa, and chips were a great way to kick off the meal. The chicken enchiladas were so tender they practically melted in your mouth. Even the beans and rice were amazing, sometimes those sides are an afterthought, but not here!

One of our dishes came with a slaw, pineapple, and salad mix that was something new for me. It was fresh, delicious, and the perfect way to cool down after a few bites of a spicier dish.

We don't get this type of Mexican food where we live, so whenever we're in California, we make sure to enjoy it while we can. Chapala Grill did not disappoint. Great food, great service, and we'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area. A+++“

“Fast and delicious! This place is right of the freeway and easy to get to. Seating is outdoor and they have a very nice patio set up. Card is accepted. I loved my asada fries, the fry to meat ratio was perfect. My lunch mates said their tacos were five star. Overall this is a great and inexpensive place to stop.“

“Tried this spot for the first time last night on a whim, and it absolutely delivered.

We showed up around 7:30 thinking they closed at 9, but they actually closed at 8. Even so, they welcomed us in, seated us, and never once made us feel rushed. That alone deserves appreciation—especially knowing what it’s like to try to close down a business properly.

Walking in feels like stepping back into the 90s—in a good way. CRT TVs mounted up high, classic decor. Nothing fancy, but honestly, if it works, it works.

Chips and salsa came out immediately. Chips were hot and crispy, and the salsa had a nice underlying kick. Second round came just as fast.

Now the food.

I ordered the Fajita Mar y Tierra after seeing (and smelling) someone else’s plate. Easily one of the most flavorful Mexican dishes I’ve had in Visalia since moving here in summer 2025. Shrimp, steak, and chicken were all cooked perfectly, each with its own distinct flavor. The peppers and onions were tender and soaked up all that flavor, but surprisingly, the tomatoes were the standout—I don’t even like tomatoes, and I wanted more. Perfectly cooked and charred.

Rice and beans were exactly what you want—well-seasoned and not dry. The guacamole tasted freshly made with just the right hint of citrus. Flour tortillas were clearly homemade and excellent—I got two and immediately wished I had more. Even the side salad came with a house-made ranch that was legit.

My wife had the Burrito Express Con Pollo. It came covered in green sauce—which she normally avoids—but this one changed her mind. She kept saying how flavorful it was and wished there was more of it. The shredded chicken was tender and packed with flavor.

Service was attentive, friendly, and felt genuinely welcoming. It seems like a family-run place, and it shows in the care they put into everything.

Bottom line: Don’t judge this place by the decor. Come for the food. It’s probably the best Mexican food in Visalia.“
