“Why Didn’t I Know About this Place Sooner?

Dunedin has a lot of great little restaurants. I don’t know how this one didn’t show up on my radar sooner. The outdoor seating is very nice. The staff were all great. The prices were good.

I started with the smoked fish. While I enjoyed it, the fish needed a little more flavor from the smoking process. I added some vinegar, salt and a bit of hot sauce. I had plenty to take home. For my main I had fish & chips. The fish was cod and there were four large pieces in a thin crust. It was moist and flaky and delicious—one of the best fish & chips I’ve ever had. The fries were crunchy and tasty. I had a side of cole slaw and, unlike in many places, it was tangy and delicious.

I hope to return soon.“

“What a fantastic venue for my 70th birthday celebration! We reserved the Honey Hole and Shell Garden for a private gathering of about 30 friends & family with children. Allysia helped me put together a wonderful experience, she went above and beyond to make it really special, and was so easy and fun to work with from start to finish. I had the Banana Hammock and, of course, the Rum Runner, which was outstanding, but this Dockside Lemonade was cool and refreshing and welcomed. A little sweet as a heads up, but really a nice summer drink!

At the end of the day, this was a great way to finish my challenge and had a pleasant experience! For the record, if you are interested in the challenge. “The Opal sol is beautiful and clean. It is a pleasure to stay here. The rooms are gorgeous and the view from your room cannot be beat. We just got back from 5 nights here and we were sad to leave. We had the garlic snow crab platter and had them spice it up a bit, so buttery and flaky. We also tried the garlic shrimp platter which had plenty of large shrimp and both had delicious butter soaked potatoes and corn on the cob too. Then we had the fried catfish with seasoned fries. “I don’t go places twice on vacation, but after having a less than ideal experience at a nearby competitor, I decided to come back for the drinks and the Grouper sandwich! Courtney was my waitress, and even when slammed, she never forgot me. She was professional and did an outstanding job both times I ate with her.

As for the food, it was the best I had in Clearwater. I prefer Diner and Dive local eats compared to overpriced and pretentious restaurants. I had the seafood platter and the Grouper sandwich, and both were outstanding and grilled to perfection. I enjoyed my seafood scallops and grouper with green beans on the platter, but I LOVED my sandwich and fries!

This was also my FIRST stop on the Cocktail Challenge (four stops for four signature drinks at four locations), and I enjoyed my drink on a humid day and, if I’m being honest, loved my Dockside Lemonade the best of all the drinks on the challenge.
