Cookies were soft, gooey in the center, and generously topped, though a couple looked slightly underbaked — pretty typical for their style. “The Bakero is a fairly new cafe and bakery in downtown Sarasota, on Main Street. It has plenty of small seating areas, mostly tables for 2–4 people and a few for 6. The tables and chairs are arranged in a way that allows you to find a comfortable seat for your party.

Coffee, though they were not busy, took extra time to be made. It is brought to your table. However, the quality of service, the presentation, and the taste were worth the wait.

The croissant was good. It was perfectly savory, with no unnecessary sugar or butter added. After eating it, there was no guilt. My fingers were not greasy after tearing a piece off. To me, this is a big plus. But if you want sweeter options, there are plenty of delicious choices.

The Bakero wins with its home-style baked bread: organic, four ingredients, freshly baked daily. This is a place to stop by next time you drive through downtown. Grab a baguette and coffee to go, then head to nearby Payne Park for a walk with your friends.

Parking is usually not an issue on this side of Main Street, though it is paid parking. There is also a parking garage within a three-minute walk.

The decor is cute. The floors and bathrooms are clean. The kitchen is visible from the counter. Absolutely everything looks pleasantly clean.

The lighting is soft yellow, bright enough to read comfortably while remaining soft enough to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

Due to the acoustics of the space, you will hear a cacophony of soft music, people chatting, the coffee machine and cooking equipment, and the doorbell as people come and go. I love how well the music volume is balanced. One-on-one conversations are good. It might be too loud for a large group or Zoom meetings. I would recommend it for when you need to work solo or study. The Bakero provides a perfect atmosphere for a person who wishes to enjoy personal time without feeling alone.

People of all ages and dress styles. This is a place where you want to dress well to come in—because it’s pretty—and still feel comfortable coming in sports clothes.“

Their selection of drinks is amazing as well and has something for everyone! We didn’t try any savory dishes but they were probably really good too. We were staying in Venice and went out to eat in Sarasota and saw the sign on 41 in our way to the restaurant.
After dinner, I checked their website to see what time they closed. We would barely make it. I called and told them I needed a pie but might not make it by closing. The young man assured me it would be waiting at the register at whatever time we arrived. True to his word, he had it ready and waiting 5 minutes after closing when I arrived.

“I read the reviews online (I’m from out of state) and couldn’t be happier w the cake I ordered for my father’s 80th birthday. The customer service was outstanding, especially the woman who I met in the store when I picked up my order. She was such a lovely person and so helpful. She helped me pick out some other pastries and helped me carry my goodies to the car. The chocolate buttercream frosting on the cake reminded me of the icing my grandfather used to make. I especially wanted to leave this review because they went above and beyond for my son's birthday. “These pastries are the best I have had outside of France, but they're not French. They are distinctly dulce de leche! She's got a white chocolate alfajore and other alfajores that will knock your socks off. I had no problems communicating with the lady who checked me out even though I do not speak Spanish. She speaks enough English to make herself understood. Her pastries are simply divine! Who doesn't love dulce de leche?“

“I stopped in to meet with a friend and it was almost perfect. 4/5. I will start with the good. The latte was nice (they have oat and almond milk so happy to have diary free options). I ordered a pistachio muffin and was so excited to see they make them here. It was delicious! Probably one of the best I have had. Thank you for making this flavor! The woman at the counter was very nice and she makes a great latte. The cafe is small but has a decent amount of seating. The vibe is of a quick service cafe. It isn’t trying to be anything that it is not. The baked goods speak for themselves! So far so good! Until I realized there was a woman with her pet dog (not a service dog) at one of the tables INSIDE. She had a full breakfast spread and the dog barked the entire time. We got to hear the dog barking on and off the whole time AND listen to her snap at her dog to stop barking. It gets better. She put the dog in her lap several times (doggy dining health codes for OUTSIDE dining requires dogs to remain on the ground, off furniture/laps, and not use human dishes etc.). At one point the dog jumped on the other chair at her table and ate an entire quiche (or whatever it was) right off the plate. I was incredulous. Was this really happening? Why are we letting this happen? I love dogs and have two well behaved old guys that I will take for outside doggy dining when the weather is not too hot. Health codes are pretty clear about animals. My line of work also has me working closely with those needing properly trained service animals and this woman wasn’t even trying to pretend it was a service dog. Of course I will be back for a muffin and coffee. But if that woman is there with her dog again I might just go elsewhere.“

“I worked at the Bradenton Bakery as a production technician/sponge mixer and I was responsible for getting the process of making the bread started. I mixed all the ingredients into a huge dough mixer and after it fermented for about an hour I pulled the troughs of dough, that weighed over 2000 pounds, onto a lift that raised it up and dumped the dough into the main mixers. It was a very hard and hot job but I loved working there. My experience with the company as a whole was awesome. I recommend to anyone that doesn't mind working hard and getting great pay and benefits to apply there. The human resources department folks are just wonderful and will treat you very well.“
