“Looking for Authentic Trini food, this is the spot in Chicago! Had the veggie Roti buss up shot style, it did not disappoint on size and flavor. Keep supporting, keep Trini flag flying high.Vegetarian options: Just leave out the meat and almost everything could be vegetarian“
“Food is very good, especially the hen and coco rice. Festival is the best I’ve had outside of Jamaica. Service has always been very friendly and the inside has always been clean. Definitely would recommend, especially if you’re looking for something besides fast food and fries.“
“Had an AMAZING time here! The food, staff, and ambience was TOP NOTCH! We had a great server, Nikki, that attended to every detail with a smile, fun loving banter, and made sure our drinks were always filled and bellies full! Will be coming back here often and bringing some more friends with us. Definitely my new spot!“
“Food was delicious, very well seasoned. Service was nice, owners checked on you.Atmosphere had good vibes.Ordered Steak Jibarito, Skirt steak dinner (added shrimp) which was a little salty.& apps such as chicken & beef empanadas. Everything was good especially the empanadas, black beans and white rice. They also make cocktails.“
“OMG this place is good!!! Found this recommendation off of TikTok. I had the pot roast, mac & cheese, yams, and cabbage. Wow! Don’t judge the place from the outside, (or even the inside,) but the food is phenomenal. The owner is the nicest person on the planet. As a no-spice, white bread eating white guy from the northside, I wasn’t too sure if I was gonna like the jerk, but it was good ! I will definitely be back!“
“10 out of 10 across the board!! I loved it here and I'm still thinking about the food! The service was great and so were the drinks. We even got 2 free drinks because the bartender made extra. I ordered the Rasta Pasta with salmon and shrimp and the flavor and spice level was perfect. Super flavorful. I forget the name of the dessert puffs, which were decent, but the Caramel Rum cake was so much better. Super moist and not too sweet. The space is small so I would suggest a reservation, but they also have a full bar with seating for walk-ins. The owner was even walking around and checking on everyone, which is always a green flag at a restaurant for me.“
“This was my first time at this location and it was phenomenal. The ambiance feels inviting, warm, personal and touch of “home”. It felt like I was having lunch at my house. The food was very tasteful and well seasoned. I am one of those people that usually go with the “hamburger” or “chicken strips” because I am scared to try other foods. I ordered the red beans and rice with sausage and shrimp skewer. It was very delicious. The service was excellent.“
“Food is delicious and portions are generous. My mom loves the grilled chicken meal, and I could eat pupusas and curtido every day. Definitely give the dessert empanadas a try. The dough is made with plantains, and it’s a very interesting texture.Vegetarian options: Multiple vegetarian pupusas (though most are cheesy) and some really tasty plantain dishes“
“Omgesh Richard was amazing to everyone...So I thought Richard was just a friendly worker. NOPE he's the owner!! With an up & coming new spot on the way. The food was amazing and the service was the Top Tier. Definitely recommend!!“
“My job catered a an order for Black History Month celebration, and it was fantastic - usually we have food left over, but this time- most of it was eaten! I'll have to try this place myself. We had the Rice and beans, Jerked Chicken, Cabbage / roasted veggies, and plantains. everything was good!“
“I was next door at Aire and decided to try Jerk Jamaican Barbecue. The smell outside drew me in!Tried the #3 Beef Brisket combo- it came w/ two sides & I chose the smoked baked beans (10/10⭐️) & Mac & cheese (7/10⭐️- I’m used to the baked version). The beef brisket w/ the BBQ sauce was delicious (10/10⭐️) I’m used to gravy on my rice & peas (Jamaican restaurant near me that I frequent) but Jerk’s version was flavorful!Overall, I rate the Beef Brisket combo meal a 8.5/10⭐️!I didn’t realize the lady in my video was staring at me lol, I’m sorry. ?I’m not from this immediate area but, I look forward to returning again in a few months. I wished I tried the roasted corn!Parking: Good luck finding parking!“
“I had the ropa vieja and it was pretty good. First time trying the dish so I don't have a basis for comparison, but the meat was juicy and tender. The dish also came with a side of tostones, rice, and beans which were all good. Some of the friends I was with got other dishes and found the meat to be dry. The portion sizes also aren't very large relative to the price. Overall a pretty decent spot.“
“I went to this location and the customer service top tier the young lady at the front she recommended me to oxtail it was good I actually really enjoy it thanks to the Jamaican cashier at the front I’ll definitely come back with my family .“
“Ordered pickup from the Wabash location. Slightly confusing because the storefront is somewhat of Doordash operated. The goat roti was definitely on point. Roti skin was good quality. This spot fills the gap of missing trini restaurants in the city“
“First time here and definitely worth trying. The chicken is soft and well seasoned with the jerk flavors. Mac and cheese is cheesy and good. Cabbage is good..now the red beans and rice tasted like rice a roni..it didn’t have that real flavor of red beans and rice plus I think all I got was like three beans. Then it came with some sauce that was sweet, rubbed me the wrong way. But overall I would recommend for anyone to try for themselves.“
“First time trying. It was amazing - I had the 6 piece jerk dinner ( included salad , plantains and red beans & rice under the chicken and a slice of bread ) I had an additional mac and cheese and yams ( they standard size is huge by the way, definitely get your moneys worth ) my total was under $14 before the extra sides I got but it came out to $24 with everything. It included 1 very small sauce but truly that’s all you need.Thank you all again!“
“I love the concept (striving to encourage healthy eating) and the fact that it is a black-owned business in a black neighborhood is even better. The food has been top notch all 3 times that I have ordered from here; they do not disappoint. There has not been a dish that I didn't like (red snapper, greens, carrot fluff, turkey burger, need I say more?!). My colleague had a black bean burger, yesterday and returned today for another. Keep up the good work and excellent customer service. I will continue to patronize this business. Great ingredients and great food, can't beat it! Peace & blessings to the establishment and customers! Let's continue to support a business worthy of being supported.“
“When in Chicago...so we stopped at Nathan's for Chicago-style hotdogs! Just needed a quick and easy meal for lunch. Nathan's hit the spot. It's a small joint, with room for a handful of people to eat there. A number of hotdog offerings on the menu. We went traditional Chicago style (minus the sport peppers for me). Soft drinks in cans or bottles available. Reasonably priced.“
“I've been coming here for nearly a year and Stylez does not disappoint. Food is always fresh, delicious and made with Love. Stylez is friendly and the atmosphere definitely has that Jamaica vibe!! Although I've been coming here for a while, tonight the Jerk tacos that I had were absolutely amazing and devouring!“
“Been coming here a few years and they are consistent with flavor and presentation. They have the best bbq jerk chicken tips and jerk chicken salad. The dressing isn’t anything to rave about but the meats are good. Cornbread could be better, I got green beans and potatoes for the sides. It comes with red beans and rice too. Always good.? Service is great.“
“I’ve had the jerk chicken and bbq and both are FYE. The food is consistently hot and fresh. I love the lunch specials which are filling and affordable. This is my go to spot for jerk and bbq. I just need them to get a bigger menu on display and work on that customer service but I love this place!“
“Food was excellent! The seasoning was on point with fish and chicken. The cabbage, yams, rice/beans were delicious. The food was fresh and cooked well. Regarding service, the young man needs to get off the phone when taking orders but he's good with answering questions and giving recommendations. The restaurant is clean and menu is very detailed.I highly recommend them!“
“I had the pleasure of living across the street from this place during a travel assignment. The food is delicious. I haven’t tried it all but i plan on it. Jerk/curry chicken, egg rolls and cabbage have been my go to. All the sauces are good, fire sauce is my fav. The owners and staff are so friendly and welcoming. The music is always good, and games are often on. Happy hour prices are great! Definitely recommend stopping in to support local biz!“
“Oh my goodness! A very special friend of mine shared with me the jerk pork, jerk chicken, rice and peas, hard dough bread and some rum cake...(and a few other delicious dishes! ) This was by FAR the BEST I've had! Deeeelicious! ! I plan on making a trip there myself, I want to try everything else! ! ! Highly recommended! ! !“
“All white jerk chicken dinner, the jerk chicken is phenomenal and the candied yams delicious. Only thing was the Mac and cheese needs revamping that stove top Mac and cheese gotta go. The rice and beans was just okay I think it needed more flavor and the gravy as well. Other than that glad my order was made fresh hot and correctly! Also I feel like plantation should come with dinners. Bummer.“
“There is usually parking out front and the vibe is friendly!!! I’ve been here like 4 times since finding out about this place…. Go check them out and the prices are reasonable. They also give back where they open 1 day a week and give out Free food check their site for infoParking: There is parking out frontWheelchair accessibility: Flat surface“
“For years this was our second living room. The best spot for family dinners, drinks with friends or late night drinks after a cubs game. Super friendly staff and other frequent visitors. Best Jumbo-Rita’s in town!Kid-friendliness: Staff very good with kids and easy going. Televisions around also do kids-shows.“
“My Favorite Jerk Spot To Eat Real authentic Jamaican food located in the Chicagoland area. This is my 5th time eating here and I love everything about the menu and their services. I always get the jerk chicken with Mac and yams. The yams are always hot and deliciously made with love :) paired with the Mac and cheese super cheesy and tasty. Now let’s get to the tender- goodness oxtail made with the perfect thick gravy and vegetables are my absolutely favorite dinner on the menu. The Service was A1 and the manager Rajay was very nice and caring making sure I had extra utensils and jerk sauce. If you want a freshly cooked meal with a peaceful atmosphere please stop by and enjoy the amazing experience at Irie Jerk Hut #4 ;)“
“I've been in Chicago for (46) days and found this place a few days ago. Food best since I've been in Chicago especially being from Louisiana. I met Shekira personally going in after my DoorDash driver didn't deliver my food Day 1 Oxtails AWESOME, DAY 2 Jerk wings AWESOME, mac&Cheese good seasoned and cheesy (Just like I like it) yams I definitely recommend this place, especially if you want good and flavorful food.“
“The Whole Red Snapper is an Absolute must to have. I loved it!!!! My partner got the Jerk Salmon, it was far to spicy. We went at about 2pm, they didn't have any oxtail (oxtails was my reason to go to Ja grill ?) they said they wouldn't be ready until after 4pm?. They didn't have any bread Pudding as advertised ?. I was disappointed because I didn't get what I went for but the Whole Red Snapper was delicious ? so delicious I will go back just for it.Parking: They do not offer parking but there is parking across the street I think it was 2 to 4 hours was $12.00“
“I visited this establishment on day #2 when they opened, and it had some kinks that really needed to be worked out….2 weeks later, excellent food, service, and upgrades to establishment, I would highly recommend to try, very friendly staff and short wait times…TRY THEM !!!“
“This is the very 1st Jerk restaurant where EVERYTHING was good and fresh. I had oxtails, jerk chicken, cabbage, Mac and Cheese, yams, peas and rice, and plantain. My Ma had a full dark jerk chicken dinner as well. The Mac and cheese was seasoned to perfection and cheesy as ever (no egg; baked). The yams not overly sweet, jerk chicken just right. The cabbage is consistently good. Only disappointment was the size oxtail they give is small. (4 little pieces and 2 big. Thats everywhere though) EVERYTHING was hot, and did I say fresh?? glad it's right around my Mas house. I'll be eating here much more often!!“
“I 100% recommend this spot! Went in after work for a meal and met the owner. He was welcoming professional and knowledgeable. I had the j*** chicken with mac and cheese and collard greens. Chicken had a nice kick and was tasty. MacChz was good and the collard greens were amazing although it was the first time I ever had them and I'll be 39 in July lol. Our crew has a couple jobs in that area for the next two weeks so it's safe to say we will be going there again.. I will be trying the lamb chops for sure...“
“This food is BUSSIN!!! My family went for my brother's birthday and we ate good. I have the Diri Djondjon and steamed veggies and akra and pantains because I dont eat meat. You can be vegan and eat GOOD. My brothers had the Griyo which is a fried pork dish he said it was the best he had , the mac and cheese reminds me of Trinidadian Macaroni Pie ,but more flavorful ...like a baked mac and cheese with a mild pepper flavor . My sister had the chicken stew and she ordered a second one to go because it was so good. The service was incredible . The people were so sweet , I think marketing might be why they are a bit empty , but they shouldn't be at all. If you all live in Evanston or Skokie or Chicago you MUST come here!“
“Overall Thoughts: I went to Amaru for 2024 Restaurant Week, and it had lovely vibes, solid food, and friendly service all around. My friends and I got the cheaper $42 dinner option and felt the value was good— we were stuffed and satisfied afterwards. Out of all 3 courses, the dessert was definitely the weakest, but I really enjoyed the other two courses!- Course 1: Requeson (4.6/5): The soft cheese was delicious; it was creamy and slightly sweet, pairing nicely with the slightly spiced salsa.- Course 2: Mole Y Leon (4.5/5): This was my first time having lion’s mane mushroom, and it was great! The texture was stringy and chewy, and the seared flavors were strong. The yuca was crispy and tasty, and the mole was rich and earthy.- Course 3- Espresso Tres Leches (4/5): Definitely lacking relative to the other two dishes; the cake wasn’t moist enough in my opinion, and the flavor was kind of monotonous.—Price (relative to peers): 4.2/5Food: 4.4/5Ambience: 4.9/5Overall Value: 4.5/5“
