“Always reliably good food in a quiet atmosphere where one can actually have a conversation with other diners without shouting. Service was good, if a little prompt. Menu,, as usual, has so much variety for vegetarians and even non-vegetarians will find delicious food to eat.“

“We went to Zentli on a Sunday evening. The ambience was welcoming and the waitstaff friendly and helpful. We ordered vegan food which was fresh, delicious and filling. My husband thought the Zentli Salad was excellent. We both had tacos (Nopales, zetas and verduras). We shared the vegan dessert, plantains with a vegan caramel cream sauce, which was quite tasty. We will return , perhaps for a weekend brunch.“

“Today was my first time at Egg Harbor Evanston for breakfast, and I want to start by thanking Sam, our waitress. She was incredibly welcoming and kind and truly made us feel special.

The food was amazing! All my requests were accommodated, and everything arrived hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. I had the skillet with bacon and eggs—amazing! The waffle was perfectly soft and fluffy, with just the right amount of Nutella and banana.

Bonus points for the coffee! They bring a whole thermal carafe to the table, which is so convenient—you don’t have to wait for refills, the coffee is there whenever you need it. And the mugs are so cute, I honestly wanted to take one home!

Overall, it’s a very pleasant and lovely place to eat. Great food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you! ☕🍳🧇“

“Many, many moons ago, I used to visit Evanston with some frequency, and especially Main Street. I loved Goods, Toys Et Cetera, Vogue Fabrics (moved to Hartrey), and Dave’s Rock Shop (which is blessedly still going strong since 1970). The older I get, the more nostalgic I become for old-school, authentic businesses like Sher-Main. So many places I loved in Evanston are no longer – Tom Thumb moved from Davis Street to a dingy, somewhat depressing warehouse in an industrial area in Niles. Betty’s of Winnetka is long defunct, as is the Tokyo Shop, Protex, Walter Burt Adams, and many other places from my youth.

It is fitting that this old-school diner is on Main Street. It could very well be on any Main Street across the USA. But I am thinking a dusty old town where time stood still, not a decidedly progressive, upscale, ever-evolving, but always hip town like Evanston. This place brought back memories of the Lincolnwood Coffee Grill and Fountain Shop and funky, old school diners I went to during my art school years in Providence, Rhode Island. It is getting harder and harder to find places like this and actually impossible in my second city, NYC – at least in Manhattan.

We opened the door and were greeted with, we only take cash. This was already obvious from all of the signs and the article I read on the Evanston Round Table. “Since its inception in 1959 the restaurant has been cash only, as no fewer than four large signs on the window and door proclaim.” We tried sitting in one of the decrepit old booths that have seen better days in the front. We’re very petite, so I think only a child could comfortably slide into one of these booths. The proverbial sleeping man mentioned in another review awoke quickly from his catnap – the cook and maybe owner, I presume.

Everything here is old school – from the classic stools and booths to the quaint, laminated menus. We both ordered the deluxe hamburger and the fries were cooked to perfection. We mentioned we like them crispy and they actually listened! The server was a very sweet and friendly woman who knew all the regulars by their names. The only thing that wasn’t old school here was the surprisingly clean bathroom. If I lived in Evanston, I would definitely be a regular patron of this charming diner.“

“This restaurant is really outstanding and really great for the image of Evanston's southern end. The food is fantastic and I very much enjoy everything from the Bacon Temptation Omelette to the Spicy Poblano Omelette to the Crispy Chicken Sandwich to the Cowboy Burger. All of the food is fabulous and very well prepared, the variety is wonderful, and the coffee is always fresh. And above all, Ivan and the waitstaff provide customer service that's 'above and beyond' in every way. They're very kind, compassionate, efficient, and accomodating to everybody who comes into the establishment. Keep up the great work!“

“I am not local, this is a regular go-to place for a friend, so when I visit with her, she wants to bring me. I had a Chinese Eggplant with chicken dish, flavorful and spicy. Also had some nigiri sushi, all very good. The Black Tobiko was plentiful and fresh. The Tamago and Inari, which are types of sushi that are deceptively simple seeming but really show a chef's knowledge and artistry, were excellent. I'm sure I will go again.“

We ordered the Kung Pao chicken (which is actually spicy), the Mongolian beef — which is phenomenal — and the egg rolls and fried rice, both of which are beyond fabulous. “Five stars! Our group had lunch here recently and shared some dishes, served by friendly people. The Vegetable Momo was wonderful, light and fresh. I had Nepali Khasi with a flavorful sauce. Others had Chicken Chowmein, Lamb Vindaloo, and Jhol Momo. All were full of taste and the ingredients were fresh and perfectly prepared. Overall, it was a wonderful meal, greatly appreciated by everyone. We'll return!“

“I've been coming to Pono Ono Poke since the year it opened. Almost 8️⃣ years ago. Since then I've been to it at least 200 times. It's always been amazing and continues to be my go to spot whenever I'm in Evanston! I highly highly recommend (also it's so much better Aloha Poke down the street lol) The Miso Salmon, Mochiko Chicken, and Spicy Tuna are my favorites. 😋

The atmosphere is super warm and inviting and the employees are always nice and helpful. The music is always a good vibe too. Jack, the owner, is one the nicest guys I know and an amazing restaurant maker. 🙂“
