“First time ordering from this place and I was surprised when I was in their menu Chinese BBQ ribs! They were tender and well seasoned. The rice with chicken was great you don’t need any additional side with it since the rice itself is delicious.“

“This place is SO GOOD. As a big soup lover, I crave this place all the time. The pickled fish soup, which is their signature is the best thing. Everything is so flavorful and nicely portioned. The ambience is also very nice and service is great.“

“The service and the food were lovely. They still found a spot to seat us despite being swamped and made sure we were comfortable too. The food was delicious we ordered starters and main dishes and they all came fast. They then packed up our leftovers for us aswell and were overall very nice.“

“Words cannot describe how delicious the soup was here, the broth is just so savory. In the picture attached is the dumpling and beef tenderloin soup, beef so tender it basically melted in your mouth. I came here with a friend and we both ordered our own soup and had 2 appetizers, the total came out to 46 dollars which is a steal for how amazing the food was and the quantity that came with each serving. The food came out quickly despite the restaurant being near full capacity and it was nice, cozy and quite inside too making it easy to have conversation while having a great meal. I look forward to eating here again, 10/10 would recommend everyone try this place out if you haven't yet“

“I was sad Sichuan Cuisine had closed but relieved the folks behind it opened Chef Xiong. Everything I get here with my family is consistently good: Toothpick lamb, Chongqing popcorn chicken, Fish fillet in pickled vegetable soup. I would love to explore more of their menu and always look forward to dining here.“

“Friendly staff with reasonable price and average service. We were told the stir fried dishes don’t start until 10am once we placed our orders. Didn’t wait too long for our food. Tender crisp shrimp dumplings, mild steamed beef tripe, steamed bean curd roll, pork dumplings are perfectly cooked. Pork and peanut dumplings with a hint of spicy was on point. The chive and shrimping wraps broken off easily when pick up. The mild sweetness bbq pork crepes was ok.“

“Got two soups and sliced beef shank delivered. Everything was tasty and packaged well — like some ramen joints, they have the soup in the bowl with a tray insert that separates the noodles and toppings, preventing them from getting soggy on the way to your house.
The seafood noodle had plenty of seafood toppings, plus pickled mustard greens and half of a braised egg. The Taiwanese beef noodle was the best I’ve had in Chicago so far, including Taiwanese-specific restaurants. Came with pickled veg, a good portion of beef, and half of a soy sauce braised egg.
Would totally get delivery from here again“

“I've lived in Chicago for over 70 years. The last time we visited Chinatown was over 10 years ago. We decided to check out Emperor"s choice restaurant on Wentworth/Cermak. The best decision ever. Hank was a awesome waitperson! He even brought out 5 different noodles for me to pick out the one I wanted. From drinks, appetizers, and main entrees, everything was delicious and worth the price which was quite reasonable. We'll be back!“

“This place has great food and is a great value. A few years ago, it was about the same value as all the other Chinese restaurants. Then, those other restaurants chose to jack their prices up 50%. However, Northern Taste did not fall into that greedy trap. As a result, it now not only has really tasty food, but it is also a great deal. In addition, when things aren't right, they are very apologetic and do what they can to make things right. I definitely recommend you try this place, especially the lunch specials!“

“Hotpot was okay. Sushi was the STAR as it was nice and cold. The Philadelphia roll needs improvement but the Angel Hair, Mango, Tuna Lover and Salmon lover rolls were delicious.
Having no shumai was a strike. Crab rangoon tastes gold but I tasted pork? Ill come back“

“My family and I traveled to Chicago twice this year and dined at the Asian Cuisine Express both times. The owner, cooks and wait staff were all extremely friendly and made each of our visits a wonderful experience. We ordered Chinese and Japanese food and we also sampled some of their new delicious tacos... everything we tried was absolutely fantastic. We live 300 miles away so we ordered a lot of takeout to bring home with us to share with our friends who didn't get to make the trips. Asian Cuisine express will be a regular stop now for us every time we go to Chicago... we highly recommend everyone tries this restaurant and we can't wait until we visit there again. Thanks to all the great people at Asian Cuisine Express!!!“

“Mrs. Crespo: My husband asked me to give this place a try off reviews... We're a Spicy full household so trying new places is hard... Family of 7 so we order XL... In the past yrs started eating better... So clean and fresh tastes are important... At first was a bit iffy per the size of the wings... But then took into account the freshness of their food, taste and quality... We loved the flavor of everything... Crispy, not greasy... Extra soy blended perfectly into the rice... The egg foo young was fluffy and full, best looking sauce I've ever seen... It was smooth thick with a slight cream soup feel... Not jelly like... Not many places offer No Shell S&P Shrimp, love that they have the option with or without... No food coma zombies after, full but didn't feel gross... Delivery was on point... She said 45 minutes... In fact it was 45 minutes, including the 3 minutes it took me to give my order... A sweet older man delivered my order... The taste of the food reminded us of a China Buffet off Pulaski and Wellington.. Family owned, it was our wkly spot for over 20yrs... They watched me age into adulthood and watched my oldest 3 grow.. They've been closed for time now... But you're food reminds us of there... We'll be ordering again... Planning to stop for dine in as well...“

“This is a nice little place tucked on a side street in Chinatown. The kabobs came out really fast and the cold soup was exactly as stated...cold, lol! The cabbage and lamb kabobs were the best. All of the ones we tried were good but those two stood out. Their onion rings came in a cute little basket. Also, a BYOB. Will certainly be back.“

“Harmony Restaurant absolutely delivered. I ordered the beef Pad Thai, and it was chef’s kiss. Perfectly cooked noodles, tender beef, and a rich, balanced sauce that hit that sweet-savory sweet spot just right. Every bite tasted fresh and full of flavor without being heavy.
I usually take pictures of my food, but I was too busy enjoying it to remember always the sign of a great meal. Harmony lives up to its name with comforting, well-crafted dishes that keep you coming back. Highly recommend, especially if Pad Thai is your go-to.“

“This is literally my favorite place in Chinatown. It is such a hole in the wall and food is so authentic that only mainlanders go here. You have to go downstairs in the basement of the king karaoke place. This is a no frills place - you go up to order and pick up the food when it’s ready. The portions are made to share. I highly recommend the eggplant port dish and the pickled cabbage fish soup!“

“We really enjoyed dining here. The food was hot, fresh, and very tasty, with a nice variety of seafood, meats, vegetables, and desserts. Everything was clean, including the tables and dining area. The staff was friendly, prompt, and attentive, quickly clearing tables and refilling drinks. Even though it’s far from home, we would definitely return.“

“A literal hole in the wall, but a hidden gem. I’ve been ordering from here since 2010 and the food has always been delicious. The portions sizes are big enough for two people even if you order a small size. The lady at the window is always kind and happy to help. I definitely recommend ordering from here!“

“okay I am looking at the other reviews and the only thing that is a lie is large portions! there is no large portion! this is probably the smallest lunch special that cost close to $15 that I've ever had at any Chinese restaurant ever. you can go to a buffet and get all you can eat for $15. definitely a sample plate or portion for a child. I ordered to go and looked inside the container and was like WOW! NO I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. THE REVIEWS ARE LIES SMH however the food was good and the Cashier was a very pleasant young lady very pleasant💐“

“This was my first time trying this place, and it did not disappoint! I ordered the dinner special with general tso’s chicken, and it was amazing!! I’m usually picky with chicken but this one was made so well, and the fried rice was perfect. I requested no egg in the fried rice and a vegetable egg roll, and they were so kind and considerate to not only honor my requests but label them too!! I was worried about this because not every place is careful enough, and it can ruin your whole meal when not done right but this place did. The food was delicious, piping hot (even though my DoorDash driver had to make multiple stops before mine!), and an amazing value for the amount of food you get. The Thai iced tea was the cherry on top! 10/10 thank you for a perfect comfort meal after a long day“

“The flatbread beef dishes are amazing. The fried flatbread is tasty tender as well as the flavorful beef filling. Noodle very good too. locals eating 5 star food in a 3 star modestly decorated clean interior. Chinese language TV on the wall. Not touristy at all. Very authentically ethnic I have been told by Chinese friends. We eat there & take some home to reheat. Most excellent.“

“This is the second time we've ordered from here, and the food tastes great.
We ordered KUNG BAO DELIGHT, and it was very tasty, and the portion was very large.
We also ordered COMBINATION FRIED RICE, and it tasted great, but I asked to make spicy, and they didn't prepare it properly.
We also ordered EGG ROLLS, and they were delicious and a good size, but the CRAB RAGOONS were good, but a little over-fried.
Highly recommended.“

“Incredible food and wonderful customer service! Our lovely server recommended the egg tofu with pea tips and beef short ribs with black pepper sauce. And she was right! Both dishes were authentic and satisfying. The tofu was so flavorful and the beef was tender. The owner shared with us that this is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. We will definitely be back to support!“

“We came here as four people and ordered about seven dishes. Overall the flavors were good, portions very big, and some dishes stood out.
• Sliced beef tenders and pork w. spicy sauce (夫妻肺片): The best dish of the night — seasoning was excellent, portion generous for an appetizer. We even packed one to go.
• Shreded potato, the chilly one (尖椒土豆丝): Actually tasted more like sweet-and-sour potato, not really “chilly.” Flavor was fine, just different from the name.
• Small combination (小拼盘): Pork head, beef, and Harbin dried sausage. All cured meats, flavorful but quite salty.
• Ganbian string beans (干扁四季豆): Traditional and authentic, but a bit salty.
• Sweet and sour sliced pork, the vinegar flavor (老式锅包肉): Very crispy, big slices, vinegar taste made it refreshing. Definitely recommend this version over ketchup style.
• One pot dish (东北一锅出): With ribs, beans, corn. This one was disappointing and below expectations — I wouldn’t recommend.
Service wasn’t great: the waiter seemed rushed, kept pushing us to order, and one vegetable dish we ordered never arrived. Environment was okay, not too crowded.
👉Food overall is tasty and authentic Northeastern style. but skip the one pot dish.“

“Good value clay pot rice that includes a container of soup on the side but the bottom is not crispy if you order as is.
What I do is order takeout, bring it home and put the aluminum takeout bowl directly over flame and cook it for 5-10 minutes longer to develop a nice 飯焦/faan ziu.
The cooking time depends on how the bottom crust is developing. I also hit it with a torch on the sides where the bottom flames can't reach as well to even out the crisping. If you don't have a torch then just be careful not to burn the bottom. You can stick a spoon under the rice to check how it's going.
During this process you'll see steam coming up from the places where you're heating up as the water evaporates from the rice and a crackling noise can be heard as the crust is forming. If you use a torch, don't stay in one spot for too long or else you'll burn the rice. Keep the torch moving.
Once it's to your desired doneness, pour the sauce it comes with over the rice and mix the crispy bits around so you get some in every bite. Or don't. You can do whatever you want.
Order well ahead of time on their website before you arrive as I've found that it takes at least 40 minutes for my orders to be ready. If you go in person, the only way to order is from a kiosk. You pay for everything at the grocery checkout after waiting an eternity for the clay pot rice.
If you plan to eat there and can speak Chinese you can try to tell them to cook the rice longer to get a better crust. I have only eaten there once and there was basically no crust on mine so I just started doing takeout because I hate sitting there and waiting anyway.
My experience has only been based on ordering the clay pot rice so your experience may differ.
3 stars for atmosphere and service because it's a grocery store and the staff just cooks your food and hands it to you. Perfectly acceptable. It's basically 5 stars for this type of establishment because how could it get any better?
4 stars for food because good value and portions but 5 stars would need to have a consistent crust.
Still 5 stars for me though.“

“I’ve been coming here since 2005, and it’s truly top-tier. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and generous enough to last two or three days. What sets this place apart is the family behind it—they’ve made every visit feel personal. I’ve watched their daughter grow up, always helping out, and now she’s graduated college and is off pursuing her dreams. They always remember your order and do their best to accommodate. Just a heads up: call ahead to place your order—otherwise, you might be waiting a bit. But trust me, it’s always worth it.“
