“First time ordering from this place and I was surprised when I was in their menu Chinese BBQ ribs! They were tender and well seasoned. The rice with chicken was great you don’t need any additional side with it since the rice itself is delicious.“

“My mom and I were in Chinatown looking for a place to have some great fried rice. Yao Yao came up when we searched Google and then we stumbled on it as we were walking so we decided to give it a try. It was clean, spacious and the decor was so cute! Upon reading the reviews further, we found out that this place’s specialty is their pickled fish and that it’s a Michelin star restaurant but we didn’t end up getting it. We ordered their shrimp fried rice with extra veggies, their shrimp Lo mein and their chili chicken. We were disappointed about the fried rice as it barely had any flavor and the shrimp for both the fried rice and Lo mein was lacking in flavor. We kept adding soy sauce and chili oil to make the rice taste decent but the other dishes were good! The chili chicken was very delicious and full of flavor!! We would go back again for the Lo mein, the chili chicken & to try the pickled fish next time but not the fried rice.“

“I was sad Sichuan Cuisine had closed but relieved the folks behind it opened Chef Xiong. Everything I get here with my family is consistently good: Toothpick lamb, Chongqing popcorn chicken, Fish fillet in pickled vegetable soup. I would love to explore more of their menu and always look forward to dining here.“

“This restaurant truly brings the authentic taste of Sichuan! Every dish is full of flavor – spicy, aromatic, and cooked to perfection. I especially loved the Kung Pao Chicken, Mapo Tofu, and Pickled Fish – they taste just like in China. The staff is very welcoming, the place is clean, and the prices are very reasonable. A great spot for family or friends to enjoy a real Sichuan dining experience. Highly recommended!“

“The most delicious AND the most inexpensive restaurant in Chicago?! Sounds impossible, but it happens here. Add in warm, attentive hosts & authentic atmosphere, and what more could you want! A generous portion of roast duck over noodles in soup for $10. Add roast and bbq pork for another $1.50. Try the XO sauce, if you've never had it. Enjoy!“

“Friendly staff with reasonable price and average service. We were told the stir fried dishes don’t start until 10am once we placed our orders. Didn’t wait too long for our food. Tender crisp shrimp dumplings, mild steamed beef tripe, steamed bean curd roll, pork dumplings are perfectly cooked. Pork and peanut dumplings with a hint of spicy was on point. The chive and shrimping wraps broken off easily when pick up. The mild sweetness bbq pork crepes was ok.“

“This place has great food and is a great value. A few years ago, it was about the same value as all the other Chinese restaurants. Then, those other restaurants chose to jack their prices up 50%. However, Northern Taste did not fall into that greedy trap. As a result, it now not only has really tasty food, but it is also a great deal. In addition, when things aren't right, they are very apologetic and do what they can to make things right. I definitely recommend you try this place, especially the lunch specials!“

“I've lived in Chicago for over 70 years. The last time we visited Chinatown was over 10 years ago. We decided to check out Emperor"s choice restaurant on Wentworth/Cermak. The best decision ever. Hank was a awesome waitperson! He even brought out 5 different noodles for me to pick out the one I wanted. From drinks, appetizers, and main entrees, everything was delicious and worth the price which was quite reasonable. We'll be back!“

“Mrs. Crespo: My husband asked me to give this place a try off reviews... We're a Spicy full household so trying new places is hard... Family of 7 so we order XL... In the past yrs started eating better... So clean and fresh tastes are important... At first was a bit iffy per the size of the wings... But then took into account the freshness of their food, taste and quality... We loved the flavor of everything... Crispy, not greasy... Extra soy blended perfectly into the rice... The egg foo young was fluffy and full, best looking sauce I've ever seen... It was smooth thick with a slight cream soup feel... Not jelly like... Not many places offer No Shell S&P Shrimp, love that they have the option with or without... No food coma zombies after, full but didn't feel gross... Delivery was on point... She said 45 minutes... In fact it was 45 minutes, including the 3 minutes it took me to give my order... A sweet older man delivered my order... The taste of the food reminded us of a China Buffet off Pulaski and Wellington.. Family owned, it was our wkly spot for over 20yrs... They watched me age into adulthood and watched my oldest 3 grow.. They've been closed for time now... But you're food reminds us of there... We'll be ordering again... Planning to stop for dine in as well...“

“Mapo tofu and scallion pancakes have long been on my bucket list and I was happy to see both of them on the same menu. Both were absolutely delicious, the mapo tofu wasn't very spicy but definitely mouth numbing as you'd expect from Sichuan cuisine and the portion was MASSIVE. The scallion pancakes were very nice as well, although a bit tough. Came here starving and left full and with like a kilogram of food left, got it to go and the lady at the register was super nice and fun to talk to. Overall great place, would love to try the other dishes when I get to visit again next week. Until then I will be enjoying the leftovers for the next 2 days 🫃🫃“

“A literal hole in the wall, but a hidden gem. I’ve been ordering from here since 2010 and the food has always been delicious. The portions sizes are big enough for two people even if you order a small size. The lady at the window is always kind and happy to help. I definitely recommend ordering from here!“

“My family and I traveled to Chicago twice this year and dined at the Asian Cuisine Express both times. The owner, cooks and wait staff were all extremely friendly and made each of our visits a wonderful experience. We ordered Chinese and Japanese food and we also sampled some of their new delicious tacos... everything we tried was absolutely fantastic. We live 300 miles away so we ordered a lot of takeout to bring home with us to share with our friends who didn't get to make the trips. Asian Cuisine express will be a regular stop now for us every time we go to Chicago... we highly recommend everyone tries this restaurant and we can't wait until we visit there again. Thanks to all the great people at Asian Cuisine Express!!!“

“okay I am looking at the other reviews and the only thing that is a lie is large portions! there is no large portion! this is probably the smallest lunch special that cost close to $15 that I've ever had at any Chinese restaurant ever. you can go to a buffet and get all you can eat for $15. definitely a sample plate or portion for a child. I ordered to go and looked inside the container and was like WOW! NO I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. THE REVIEWS ARE LIES SMH however the food was good and the Cashier was a very pleasant young lady very pleasant💐“

“This place reminds me of the old Chinatown before COVID and the reason I used to go to Chinatown. It's, affordable with good portions, it has that older Chinese restaurant feel to it, yet clean, and the service is good with a fast waitress who has a good memory and doesn't need a notepad. Service is fast and the food is fresh and hot served with tea. Free parking close by. Highly recommend you check it out and if you like your food a bit spicy, ask for it and it will make a huge difference.“

“Open late, this BBQ spot brings flavors of Asian night markets to Chicago. BBQ meats (beef, lamb, pork) were layered, cooked well, complimented delectably by the seafood. We had Crawfish in medium spicy sauce. Staff were attentive and took great care of us.“

“One of my favorite small spots in Chinatown, making dishes that I can’t come close to replicating at home. Think hand pulled noodles, gluten cakes, and stuffed buns. I’ve been coming here since 2019, and the prices are always reasonable for a good amount of food. It’s a small business with small business quirks. QR codes make it easy to order—the owner is the primary waitstaff and speaks limited English. The Biang Biang noodles is a must-order.“

“Excellent variety of high quality Chinese food well appreciated by many people of Chinese heritage that I know. I recommend the Bird's Nest and also the BBQ Chow Fun. Others seemed to really appreciate the lobster, fish, and steak dishes. Those shrimp chips are also very popular with those of Chinese heritage. When I peaked in the empty teapot I could actually see the large loose green tea leaves.“

“This is the second time we've ordered from here, and the food tastes great.
We ordered KUNG BAO DELIGHT, and it was very tasty, and the portion was very large.
We also ordered COMBINATION FRIED RICE, and it tasted great, but I asked to make spicy, and they didn't prepare it properly.
We also ordered EGG ROLLS, and they were delicious and a good size, but the CRAB RAGOONS were good, but a little over-fried.
Highly recommended.“

“This is the ONLY Chinese takeout place I order from. Portions are massive and for an amazing price. The orange chicken is so good it's like crack. Crab ragoons are also comparable to crack. I order from here like once a month. My stomach hates me but the food is soo good 👍👍👍👍👍“

“We came here as four people and ordered about seven dishes. Overall the flavors were good, portions very big, and some dishes stood out.
• Sliced beef tenders and pork w. spicy sauce (夫妻肺片): The best dish of the night — seasoning was excellent, portion generous for an appetizer. We even packed one to go.
• Shreded potato, the chilly one (尖椒土豆丝): Actually tasted more like sweet-and-sour potato, not really “chilly.” Flavor was fine, just different from the name.
• Small combination (小拼盘): Pork head, beef, and Harbin dried sausage. All cured meats, flavorful but quite salty.
• Ganbian string beans (干扁四季豆): Traditional and authentic, but a bit salty.
• Sweet and sour sliced pork, the vinegar flavor (老式锅包肉): Very crispy, big slices, vinegar taste made it refreshing. Definitely recommend this version over ketchup style.
• One pot dish (东北一锅出): With ribs, beans, corn. This one was disappointing and below expectations — I wouldn’t recommend.
Service wasn’t great: the waiter seemed rushed, kept pushing us to order, and one vegetable dish we ordered never arrived. Environment was okay, not too crowded.
👉Food overall is tasty and authentic Northeastern style. but skip the one pot dish.“

“Hidden inside a Chinese supermarket, this spot is a true gem for comforting and affordable claypot rice. For just around $30, we enjoyed a full meal without needing to worry about tips — amazing value!
We tried the Chinese sausage claypot rice, which came sizzling hot with that perfect crispy bottom layer of rice that makes claypot so special. The sausage was savory and slightly sweet, balancing beautifully with the soy sauce drizzled on top.
On the side, we had a plate of blanched Chinese greens with oyster sauce — fresh, vibrant, and a nice contrast to the rich rice. The meal also came with a simple but warm and satisfying soup, which felt very homey.
To top it off, we ordered crispy pork belly, which had that beautiful crunchy skin and tender meat underneath. It paired really well with the dipping sauce provided.
Overall, the food was delicious, filling, and reminded me of classic home-style Chinese comfort food. Definitely a place I’d come back to again and again for a casual and satisfying meal.“

“Food is fresh and excellent. I find it to be one of the best in the area. Non greasy, good flavor, service is ok, but when they attend to you, you have their undivided attention. I have been there a few times, and it does not vary. It is also very clean, with large tables and booths.“

“Hunan Bistro (Chicago) serves authentic Hunan food.
The food tasted good, but my son and husband said the pork didn’t have a lot of meat on the bones.
The fried lotus I ordered was alright.
We noticed others ordering a dry hot pot, which looked good and maybe we should have tried that.
The service wasn’t bad, but our server was maybe a bit distracted.
Over all our experience was descent and I can’t complain.
After a long day of traveling we were happy to get some hot food that tasted pretty good.“

“Great selection of foods! Fresh and good quality items!
The place is very busy and service isn’t as diligent, quick. So, reservations are recommended.
Overall too pricey for having to cook your own food, but the business model seems genius in that sense! Great quality of ingredients.“

“I’ve been coming here since 2005, and it’s truly top-tier. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and generous enough to last two or three days. What sets this place apart is the family behind it—they’ve made every visit feel personal. I’ve watched their daughter grow up, always helping out, and now she’s graduated college and is off pursuing her dreams. They always remember your order and do their best to accommodate. Just a heads up: call ahead to place your order—otherwise, you might be waiting a bit. But trust me, it’s always worth it.“
