The owners take pride in managing the restaurant on a daily basis. They prioritize customer service, great food, and a warm, welcoming experience. Last night, they hosted the Highland Park/Highwood Professional Moms group. We had only expected 15 women to attend, but 25 women ended up coming. The owners and the staff were AMAZING. They brought over additional chairs. They provided us with top-notch service, including separate checks. They respected us when we were speaking to the group and quietly took orders in the background. I can't say enough nice things about this restaurant.“

I’m not surprised at all that their holiday special offerings sell out so quickly – – This is a special kind of bakery – – not too refined as to only have the sweetest and most delicate of desserts – – but more of a chefs kind of place – – you know the ingredients are going to be the finest out there. My only quibble is the inflexibility with the vegetarian sandwiches in their refrigerator – – the staff would not make me a fresh sandwich. But this is a minor quibble. “We had a wonderful dinner at Prairie Grass Cafe. The spring rolls were loaded with delicious perfectly cooked shrimp and the accompanying sauce (sweet chili with garlic and cilantro) plays nicely with them. The flounder with roasted carrots and parsnip-potato purée was as delicious as it looks. It was generously portioned and beautifully plated. We also enjoyed the mussels with parsley, shallots, and breadcrumbs pasta. My husband is Sicilian and it reminded us of the pasta con le sarde that we love to have in Sicily. The mussels were plump and delicious. The wine list is very nice. We found wines we really enjoyed and they were reasonably priced. We enjoyed the Attems, Pinot Grigio, Friuli, Italy ‘22 with our mussels and flounder, and the Fritz Haag, Riesling, Germany ‘21 with our pumpkin pie for dessert. Service was perfect.“

Communication was top-notch, portions were huge, and the food was incredible. Guests couldn’t stop talking about the juicy chicken and steak, the homemade chips and salsas, and guacamole that could honestly be eaten by the spoonful. Mr. Ochoa truly takes pride in his food — you can taste the love in every bite. Highly recommend for both dining in and catering!“

“My husband and I are visiting from Arizona and were meeting some friends in The Glen. We planned on going to The Yardhouse, but thought it was too noisy. Saw the reviews for The Oak and we were so glad we did. The burger I had was the best burger I have ever had, our friend felt the same. My husband and our other friend had the rueben, they loved them also. We left the restaurant and we were going to take individual pics, then this really nice guy offered to take a picture of all of us. He was so very nice. Guess what, he was the owner. We will definitely be back on our next visit here and our friends will be back sooner. Great food!!!!“

“I would go here again and again. Food quality is excellent. What can I say about NICK the manager. Outstanding manager. He listens to customer. Make sure we leave place very happy. If you complain about food, he will replace immediately without any questions asked. He makes sure that all the customers are very happy. We order a corn soup, my wife thought it was not spiced up enough. She asked waiter to spiced up. Manager came and told her that this is the way it comes and cannot spice up. He replaced her with another type of soup and did not even charge us for that. Great place to go for diner with family and friends.“

“I went to dinner here with friends last night. I used to live in The Glen, and since I still live only about ten minutes away, I have been coming here regularly for more than ten years.
Everything was great, but the ribeye I ordered medium came out well-done. I sent it back, and the manager, Kaitlyn, came over, apologized, and had it remade. Unfortunately, the second steak was also not cooked to the correct temperature. I honestly felt bad and was willing to just eat it, even though it was not my fault, but Kaitlyn insisted on having it made again correctly.
I was truly impressed by the service. Mistakes can happen, but what really matters is how a restaurant responds and makes an effort to take care of its guests. Kaitlyn handled the situation professionally and genuinely wanted to make sure I was satisfied.
A special thank-you to Kaitlyn and our server, Sara, for their outstanding service. I have been coming here for over ten years, but I do not think I have ever been this impressed by the level of care and hospitality. Truly excellent service.“
