“I have lived most of my life in Chicago not eating New York-style pizza, but this place opens a few years ago and it is becoming one of my favorites. I still eat a lot of other styles of pizza but for just one quick slice this is a go to. I had a friend recently turn me onto cheese pizza, and that is my favorite slice here. If you’re going to eat here, you have to make sure to fold your slice of pizza because that is the traditional way to eat this style of pizza. I hope you enjoy it.“

I was a general manager of restaurants for 21 years and this was exceptional customer service when a lot of places would have just taken my money. “I absolutely enjoyed my lunch here yesterday! I've walked past here many times in the evening with my dog 🐕 and finally had an opportunity and excuse to come in to try their pizza. I picked the Mary pesto pie 🥧 named after Chef Joel's Aunt and he personally came to my table straight from the kitchen to present it to me. I enjoyed the texture, flavors and lovely presentation and the restaurant itself is charming, cozy and perfect to enjoy some gourmet comfort food. All the staff here is welcoming and excited to share their knowledge of the contents of the food they serve. My mouth watered though once I viewed their pastry selection so I couldn't leave without trying their version of chocolate pudding. They open their doors 🚪 at 9 AM for breakfast so I would love to return here again just to understand in a hot chocolate and pastries. Thanks for a wonderful time and I've still got pizza 🍕 leftover from yesterday's indulgence. I hope to find outside patio seating here this summer 🙏 so my dog can share a pizza pie with me ....“

“went to pizzeria portofino tonight for the first time. didn't know we needed reservations but luckily we were able to get in pretty quick. tried the octopus, calamari and then 5 different pizzas. the Fresca, due funghi, fall squash and pancetta, the classic cheese and the special Brussel sprout pizza. awesome quick service, everything was delicious and had amazing flavor. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been. excited to come back again and try other pizzas and probably a pasta or two.“

Pepperonis were also high quality, if there’s a problem it lies with the sauce. There's hardly any, not even close to enough on either their tavern or NY style. Order the NY style with extra sauce. The tavern is so thin that there’s barely any room for sauce, if you care. Still solid tavern.“

“We were excited to try Bonci, but the experience was jarring from the moment we walked in. Instead of the welcoming ambiance you’d expect at a Roman-style pizzeria, we were blasted with deafening Spanish music—so loud it was impossible to hear my date. If I wanted a Roman pizza, I definitely didn’t sign up for a Dominican jungle soundtrack. It completely ruined the atmosphere.

Now, the pizza itself is fantastic—no complaints there. But the service? Terrible. The guy behind the counter didn’t understand English and kept asking me the same question over and over. I told him multiple times that I wanted four slices, all the same size. Each time, he asked, “How much?” It felt like an absurd game of broken telephone.

Honestly, the service in this city is consistently awful, and Bonci is no exception. It’s a shame that such great pizza is marred by such an incompetent staff and terrible atmosphere.“
