You thought you've had it all, that Chicago couldn't possibly have yet ANOTHER banger in Wicker Park, but i'll be damned, here we are. The cracklin' shrimp is so well done, I would eat a bowl of it. Lemony, spicy, deep fried deliciousness. The half chicken was among the best I've ever had (whatever that green sauce was, was KILLING IT) not to mention my wife's elote lasagna?!?! “Casa Yari is the best for vegan food in Chicago...hands down. The menu is creative, delicious and made with love. Yari is an amazing chef and human all around. Her staff, which includes her daughters, is very knowledgeable about the menu and can guide you on what to get if you're a first timer. Every dish is made to order so a little bit of a wait time is to be expected and well worth it. Be sure to check their website for updated rotating menus as well as some restaurant FAQs (i.e. they stop taking orders about 30 min before close) Heads up, brunch is busy so you most likely won't be able to grab your order to go but you are more than welcome to dine in at the bar if you're solo. They also have an amazing N/A cocktail list for those of you that don't drink. This is not a place to miss if you're a true Chicago foodie!“

“First and foremost, the staff is hands down the best! Literally the friendliest staff I’ve ever encountered! And I’ve tried a few things on the menu and nothing has been a let down. Usually I regret straying from “the usual” but I never do here. The crab rangoon is the best I’ve ever had, the wings surprised me with how tasty and well cooked they were, the basil chicken egg rolls were bomb (so is the basil chicken over rice), and the Khao Soi is a best seller for a reason!“

“My sister lived in Italy for a while, and we took her to Black Dog Gelato. After tasting three of the creative gelatos, she said that Black Dog has gelato as good as the best in Italy.

I haven't been to Italy very much, but there is little doubt that Black Dog may have the best gelato in Chicago. I can't say for sure because I haven't been to all the gelato stores in the Windy City, but they'd have to be five stars to compete.

When I first visited Black Dog, I tasted the pistachio gelato with pistachio bits on top and in the gelato itself. I like to test a gelatoria by tasting the pistacho, and Black Dog had me right off the bat. Since then, I've never been disappointed by their rotating roster of flavors.

The store even has a dairy-free Wednesday, and the gelato that day often tastes as good as the regular gelato.

The staff of primarily young women are welcoming and patient as you decide. They have characters that you don't find in customer service anymore: they seem to really like helping people! And they fulfill any tasting request.

Black Dog is located on a corner on Damen Avenue in Ukranian Village. It's an unassuming store that has a neighborhood feel about it.

The gelato shop appears not to have caught the eyes of the gentrification crowd. That's to the benefit of those who love it because we don't have to wait in long lines. That's their loss.

Black Dog may be a bit of a trip from the Northside, but it's tough to beat.“
