“Absolute dominance from a restaurant that is less than a month old. You thought you've had it all, that Chicago couldn't possibly have yet ANOTHER banger in Wicker Park, but i'll be damned, here we are. The cracklin' shrimp is so well done, I would eat a bowl of it. Lemony, spicy, deep fried deliciousness. The half chicken was among the best I've ever had (whatever that green sauce was, was KILLING IT) not to mention my wife's elote lasagna?!?! I can't wait to go back. THE MANAGER EVEN SMELLED GREAT. Victory!“

Our waitress taylor was incredible and the manager (so sorry but we never got his name because he was just being so nice to us) was incredible as well. We will definitely return with friends and recommend anyone to try it out! classy, but not snobby, cool decor, warm kind and accommodating staff, and great food and cocktails are just the cherry on top! try the carrot cake after your meal :) Thank you again to taylor and the manager again <3“

“Great food and very nice service. The bread was probably the best we've had at a restaurant. The only issue was a small one: my wife ordered a meal that included potatoes, but what she received was literally one French fry. Other than that, everything was excellent, and we really enjoyed our experience.“

By coincidence I checked it out a few days ago and I ordered a double cheeseburger with onion rings and it was delicious! I also had a chilli which I recommend if you’re into dips! Very good service. “Ate there for the first time tonight. I am vegan and my husband is an Omni. Chef Bill came out and waited on us personally, and gave us menu recommendations, all of which were delicious! The ambiance was so relaxing and peaceful; it was a nice respite from a busy day and I didn’t want to leave. Reasonably priced as well: shared appetizer, two teas, two entrees, and two desserts was $60. Will definitely be back for many more dinners!“

This is the best bakery and cafe in the area, with a delightful and inventive menu (try the rad hash), caring vibe, and an extraordinary amount of care put into every aspect of the experience. Items that are a weak afterthought at other cafes, like a side salad, are consistently fresh and delicious here. I have eaten at many of the best known and instagrammed restaurants in Chicago and I would rather eat at SBK than anywhere else.“

“Second-order nostalgia trip!
Back in the early 90’s, when the rents were still cheap and the streets were still dirty, Chicago and New York were filled with independent casual restaurants one notch up from a diner.
The best ones transported you back in time, not intentionally (manipulatively) but bc the owners had decorated them decades ago and saw no reason to change anything.
In New York, the time machine was typically set to 1963 (JFK). In Chicago, it was 1978 (Carter). Diner meets fern bar: booths, plants in the windows, hanging lamps over each table, popcorn ceilings, avocado colored walls or carpets, and idiosyncratic art reflecting the family story of the owner.
These places had all the authenticity our lil hipster hearts craved. You could linger over coffee and French fries for hours, scribbling in a notebook and pretending to be your bohemian idol.
Blind Faith Cafe is *that* restaurant. It earns it honestly (founded in 1979). But this voodoo is clearly intentional: the “old” decor is fairly new, the play list includes Saturday Night Fever, early Madonna & Cindy Lauper, and the waiter describes the veggie burger as “90s style”.
20 year old me would have winced at the insincerity. Middle aged me knows that nothing happens by accident and admires the artistry.
The base of the menu is the standard diner fare reworked for vegetarians using the techniques common in late 70s and 80s (heavy, hearty, mild, often sweet). Then there is a layer of more varied contemporary dishes.
These days I just can’t finish the mountain of fries, but it is fun to be transported back to a time when I could.“
