“Overall, we had a great experience. I try not to read reviews before visiting a restaurant because I prefer to judge it for myself. We chose this Outback because we wanted a sit-down dinner without driving to Rockville or downtown Silver Spring.

I hadn't visited this location in over 10 years after a bad experience with a broken Alfredo sauce that the staff couldn't resolve, but I figured it was time to give them another chance.

We started with the warm bread and butter, then ordered appetizers. There was a mix-up because the menu at our table differed from the one in the lobby, but our server, Michael, quickly corrected our order without any issues. The appetizers were fresh and flavorful. The only minor criticism was that the chips with the spinach dip were just a little overdone.

For dinner we ordered the Kingsland Steak & Shrimp Pasta, Queensland Chicken & Shrimp Pasta, and the Filet with Alice Springs Chicken and a grilled shrimp skewer. The Caesar salads (with ranch instead of Caesar dressing and no croutons for my son) were fresh and prepared exactly as requested. I accidentally ordered the wrong pasta, but Michael immediately fixed it. He kept our drinks full, timed everything well, and all of our food came out hot and fresh.

The only issue was with seating. Another party that arrived after us was seated first and received their food well before we did. I spoke with the hostess, Cindy, who explained that she calls multiple parties at once. While she acknowledged my concern, I believe seating guests in arrival order creates a better first impression. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, I know a guest's experience begins the moment they walk through the door, and those first impressions can affect the entire meal.

One other observation was that service overall seemed a bit slower than expected despite plenty of open tables. It may have been staffing or workflow, but it's something worth improving.

That said, Michael provided excellent service, the food was fresh and delicious, and this visit definitely restored my confidence in this location. I'd happily return.“

“I came to try this bakery after seeing it promoted on Instagram as an authentic Asian-style bakery. I miss the Japanese bakeries I would frequent often when living in Japan a few years ago, and this one definitely brought back those memories. The interior is cute and on display were a variety of Asian-style baked goods and some minimal seating. I got the ube twist and melon pan. The ube twist was really delicious — I’d highly recommend it. The melon pan was disappointing; I expect a crunchy cookie crust on melon pan and this one was sticky and soft. The bread itself was super plush and soft and amazing, so it would be great if they could improve upon it with a crunchier cookie crust. The bread items were $3-4 each, so not the cheapest, but I was happy to support a local Asian bakery.“

The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and the owners take the time to truly greet every customer of which there are many regulars. “Celebrated my birthday at Empress Coffee & Cocktails with my girls, and it was everything! The food and drinks were incredible -- we tried so many dishes and loved every bite. The Persian pizza (a house favorite) was full of flavor, the soup and grilled cheese combo was pure comfort, and the turkey + havarti sandwich, bacon egg croissant, and margarita pizza were all delicious and perfectly done. The drinks? Just wow. The espresso martini is an absolute yes! We also loved the butterfly margarita, lava-shak martini, and Malibu sunset -- all beautifully crafted and fun to sip. Plus, they offer a nice selection of wines and juices to purchase. Shots were order as well. Had too much fun didn't take pictures of all the food and drinks. The space itself is perfect for a girls' day or night out -- stylish and cozy with beautiful lighting and thoughtful décor. We especially loved the artwork of the girl with the pearl earrings -- such a fun and elegant touch! We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves, which made the whole evening feel extra special. Huge shoutout to Sam, the owner, who was such a warm and welcoming host. “Located in the former Colada space, this is a good place to grab some breakfast or lunch. Menu has a lot of variety. You can get salads, bowls, wraps and plates. We stopped by for breakfast and enjoyed their take on breakfast sandwiches. The croissant sandwich was good, but a little too thin to hold the ingredients. I did like the sauce that came with it.

My daughter enjoyed her Perfect Egg sandwich. These are pretty substantial sandwiches. I wish they had mocha coffee, but they didn't. Will come back to try their salads or bowls. Nicely decorated as well with lots of outdoor seating in the back.“

The only thing holding this review from being 5 stars is that the owner needs to assign more staff to the Saturday evening shift. There was 25-30 customers between 6:30 and 8pm on a Saturday, but only TWO employees working outside the kitchen. No host, no busser, no server. Just ONE waiter and ONE bartender during prime time dinner hours. The bartender was serving food instead of bartending and the waiter was frantically trying to take orders from 10+ tables. No one was bussing (dirty tables were left unattended until new customers arrived) and you had to find the waiter or bartender in order to get a seat. I hope the owner or manager sees this because I felt so bad for the two staff trying to run the front house of this restaurant on a Saturday night. They were doing their best and deserve more help so they can provide better service to customers.“

“This restaurant is amazing! From the food, atmosphere and service is perfect. The owner was working and was beyond kind and caring. I had never tried Indian food. So the owner walked me through what he would suggest and what it all came from. I ended up getting a dosa which was the best food I have ever had. When it came out the cook explained all of the masalas it came with.

I also asked for recommendations for desert and drink to bring home to my roommate. They suggested a chai, mango lasi, pineapple kessari and gulab jamun. Everything was to DIE for.

I came in hoping to buy a specific cake for my girlfriend’s stepmother’s birthday, but unfortunately the last one was purchased by the couple right in front of me. I was honestly pretty disappointed.

Mayleen immediately recognized how disappointing the situation was and handled it with such kindness, empathy, and professionalism. She sincerely apologized, took the time to make me feel valued as a customer, and even went above and beyond by offering me slices of another delicious cake as a thoughtful gesture.
