“Every person working here on 1/9 around 1:50pm needs a ✨raise✨ - or a fat bonus.. or both? 👀 I have never met a friendlier staff in all my years going to Starbucks, truly. Attentive, personable, compassionate. Mind you I was there for less than 5mins and was able to pick up on all of that. I hope both sides of all of their pillows are always cold, every light is green, and that they all get those bonuses I mentioned 👀 (from y'all tho ❤️)“

I’ll tell you this was a top tier experience from beginning to end each time I’ve come, but this time particularly takes the cake. The ambiance is so unbelievably warm and vibey, the real standout has to be the music mix and the way it really transcends your dining experience truly. “I came to try this bakery after seeing it promoted on Instagram as an authentic Asian-style bakery. I miss the Japanese bakeries I would frequent often when living in Japan a few years ago, and this one definitely brought back those memories. The interior is cute and on display were a variety of Asian-style baked goods and some minimal seating. I got the ube twist and melon pan. The ube twist was really delicious — I’d highly recommend it. The melon pan was disappointing; I expect a crunchy cookie crust on melon pan and this one was sticky and soft. The bread itself was super plush and soft and amazing, so it would be great if they could improve upon it with a crunchier cookie crust. The bread items were $3-4 each, so not the cheapest, but I was happy to support a local Asian bakery.“

I ordered a three-flavor cup and chose Black and White Cookie Batter, Dark Chocolate Fudge, and Dulce de Leche Chip. Each flavor was delightful! The restaurant was quite busy, which was a good sign considering its prime location near shopping stores and not far from Chinatown. There was plenty of seating available for customers to sit and savor their treats or coffee. Despite the crowd, the cashiers did an excellent job attending to everyone and even offered samples.“

“Celebrated my birthday at Empress Coffee & Cocktails with my girls, and it was everything! The food and drinks were incredible -- we tried so many dishes and loved every bite. The Persian pizza (a house favorite) was full of flavor, the soup and grilled cheese combo was pure comfort, and the turkey + havarti sandwich, bacon egg croissant, and margarita pizza were all delicious and perfectly done. The drinks? Just wow. The espresso martini is an absolute yes! We also loved the butterfly margarita, lava-shak martini, and Malibu sunset -- all beautifully crafted and fun to sip. Plus, they offer a nice selection of wines and juices to purchase. Shots were order as well. Had too much fun didn't take pictures of all the food and drinks. The space itself is perfect for a girls' day or night out -- stylish and cozy with beautiful lighting and thoughtful décor. We especially loved the artwork of the girl with the pearl earrings -- such a fun and elegant touch! We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves, which made the whole evening feel extra special. Huge shoutout to Sam, the owner, who was such a warm and welcoming host. Highly recommend this gem for a celebration or a chill hangout. Can't wait to go back!“

“We had the best time at KooKoo DC last night. They accommodated a table of 14 for my spouse's birthday and never let us feel like an imposition. The food was so fresh, authentic, and reasonably priced - I did a double take when we got the bill. I even felt like we went all-out with apps, drinks, and desserts! The owner was also so kind - we just felt so cared for the whole time and can't wait to visit again.“

The cafe has wifi with enough seats inside and out for enjoying a coffee. “I only had a small black coffee and a cheese bread, but the lady behind the counter provided me excellent service. The coffee was very good and the cheese bread was good as well. It was a pleasant atmosphere as I had my coffee and bread while reading at one of the tables inside.“

“I have heard a lot of great things about this place, so my boyfriend and I decided to try it today. We ordered two unsweetened matcha lattes, one with whole milk and one with oat milk, to really taste the quality of the matcha. While waiting, I noticed they store their matcha in clear containers, which isn’t ideal since light exposure can cause oxidation and affect the flavor and color. On the plus side, they whisk each drink fresh to order. I also noticed the straws weren’t individually wrapped, so we chose to sip through the lids instead. The oat milk version was really disappointing, the oat flavor completely overpowered the matcha, and it just tasted like green oat milk. They might want to consider an oat milk that pairs better. The whole milk version was better, it’s earthy and nutty with subtle umami notes, but not very creamy or sweet. It was slightly astringent and left a bit of dryness in my throat and mouth. Overall, we would rate their matcha 7/10. It’s not bad with whole milk, but there are definitely better matcha options out there.“

“This is my favorite neighborhood café - I have never been disappointed by a visit. The staff are very welcoming and their coffees/lattes are great. The kouign amann is my favorite item (I’ve been missing it recently), but all of their pastries are delicious and baked on site. I appreciate their efforts to expand their gluten-free options as well!

The café only has a few tables and gets crowded on the weekends, but is well worth a visit.“
