“Pleasant and proficient staff“

“This past Thursday (4/25), I went to the restaurant to use my birthday rewards to purchase a meal. Unfortunately, the link to retrieve my reward was not working. However, the cashier was nice enough to notify the manager and the manager gave me a discount after I showed him my email with the rewards information. This showed that the cashier and manager went above and beyond to provide exceptional customer services. And the meal, as always, was great!!!!“

“This was my and my fiancé's first time dining at this restaurant a few nights ago. We made a table reservation via OpenTable for 7:00pm, arrived at 6:50pm, and we were seated right away. From previous reviews I heard I was a good idea to make reservations, so that seems to be accurate from our experience because it was definitely a full house. The food is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it because it was delicious. I enjoyed my appetizer of Fiesta Egg rolls which were definitely cheesy, hot, and full of shredded chicken and lots of flavor. For entrees I got the Prime Rib (medium) which was cooked perfectly with some redskin mashed potatoes 😋 my fiancé got the Eastern Shore style crab cakes which were broiled and very tasty; came with coleslaw and show string french fries. My fiancé enjoyed all of his meal, with the exception of the coleslaw which he did not partake in due to health reasons. I also tried to Elite Margarita which was pretty good but a tad strong on the tequila for my liking, but the lime slice helped to take down some of the bitter alcohol taste for me 🙂👍🏾 The atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing, classy, and dimly lit which we loved because it had a romantic vibe to it. Our server, Olivia, was very friendly and welcoming and was on point making sure everything was to our liking. We will definitely be returning again to this location.“

“It's authentic Jamaican jerk. I had the large jerk chicken platter with rice & peas, cabbage and plantains and it was excellent. It was a giant portion and I was only able eating about half of it. I will definitely be back!“

“My sister and I were lucky enough to snag a table to this place and I was blown away! We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing and the entire experience was immaculate !! The sommelier was knowledgeable, helpful and generous. The food was divine! I will say, I don’t eat lamb, goat or octopus/calamari and their menu can be lamb heavy. I still give this place a 5/5 because they made adjustments to the courses that were made with lamb. My only feedback is that the adjustment meant fish after fish option and I would’ve loved beef as a substitution to the lamb. Aside from that, this experience was worth the high price point. The staff were attentive, friendly, and generous with their service. Palestinian food is delicious!!“

“Our Uber driver recommended St. Anselm, after the restaurant we planned on was closed. What a happy misfortune! From the quick phone call, answered by Lily, who cheerily said she could accommodate our party, to our amazing waiter Joe, the delicious food, wonderful atmosphere; this place is a DO NOT miss! “After experiencing an amazing trip to Ethiopia (the best trip of my life) once I returned to DC, I wanted my family to experience how delicious the food is! “We went for the Restaurant Week menu, but everyone had to participate and that didn't work for us. We managed though and enjoyed the meal. Service was slow and random, but the food and price was good. Although we ordered off the regular menu i hoped to order a serving of their Restaurant Week ice cream dessert. Apparently this wasn't an option. It was a single serving of ice cream... seemed odd to me i couldn't order it individually.“

“I came to Ama the way most people come to a great love: by accident, unprepared, and completely unaware of the adorable bliss ahead. Most notable, always, will be the staff. Nowhere else in DC will you find such lovely people. They are polite, chatty, welcoming even on the busiest days, and so well prepared to present their knowledge of the restaurant and the owner's vision for it with obvious respect and interest. They will gladly tell you how thoughtfully the food is prepared, and man does it come through on all of those promises. Each dish I have tastes like it was made with intention, like each ingredient was taken into consideration, and as a result, each bite is not only delicious and well-balanced, but tastes real (something too rare these days!). The Ama staff cultivates an environment welcoming of loud laughs, cheers with friends, special moments for flirty dates, shelter and a cozy drink when you're stuck in the rain, and big, open-window neighborhood hospitality. I look forward to spending too much time here over and over again.“

“During our trip to Washington, D.C., we had a lovely meal at Jab We Met. The proprietor was so kind and welcoming, making us feel right at home the moment we walked in. The food was excellent, with delicious Aloo Gobi and comforting Saag Paneer that hit just the right spot. The mango lassi was delightfully smooth and sweet, and the iced tea was light and refreshing. Despite that, the staff welcomed us warmly and still decided to serve us without hesitation. They made everything fresh, and the service was excellent from start to finish. Mango salsa was the best I’ve had. We also ordered the BBQ bowl. I wouldn’t change a thing in it. Try the Red Rice. It’s really good. “Super affordable sushi. Special rolls around $13-$17 and normal roll between $6-$9. Friendly staff and they always give us a little sushi on the house. Big ole roll of shrimp tempura sushi for ~ $7.50 where in other places would cost $12-$17.“

“Sushi Hachi is the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to; it was so good that my boyfriend and I went back two nights in a row. Their cocktails are great, and my personal favourite was the 8th street specialty sushi. The atmosphere and mood is calm and pleasant, and the staff and service is top notch. I have to mention our waitress too from the second time, Soko. She remembered us from the previous night, she even remembered which drink she had made me! And she took the time to make some recommendations for us, and brought us some miso on the house and was just the most pleasant and friendly waitress I have had in a while. Thank you!!! “I haven't been in a minute. However, from the locations that I did visit- New York Ave NE and N Veitch St, the staff, service and food is worth return trips! The Cauliflower Steak is my favorite but I am also a fan of the Greek Potato Salad. I have tried the Confetti Bowl and there is another bowl similar to the Confetti Bowl that I am not recalling at the moment. Y'all need a location in (around) the Navy Yard-Ballpark area!“

“​The food here genuinely hit the spot, but the surcharge and tipping setup at the end left a bit of a sour taste.
​We ordered a solid spread across the table:
​Steak Frites: Cooked just right, tender, and the herbaceous chimichurri sauce added great flavor. The fries were hot, golden, and crispy.
​Chicken Pasta: Rich, creamy sauce balanced nicely by the capers and fresh lemon squeeze, with generous portions of chicken.
​Caesar Salad: Crisp romaine, plenty of parmesan, and crunchy croutons—classic and refreshing.
​Ted's Tart: The nostalgic rainbow sprinkles with whipped cream made for a fun, sweet finish to the meal.
​The real frustration came with the check. Between the added service fee/surcharge and the prompt for standard tipping on top of that, the final bill felt disproportionately high for casual neighborhood dining. Hidden fees stacking up on top of regular menu prices takes away from what would have otherwise been an easy 4- or 5-star meal.
