“Chefs seeking to create within the context of #Maine Coastal Cuisine must respect entrenched expectations while at the same time seeking opportunities to introduce elements of surprise, and occasional open rebellion. Such is definitely the case at Blue, where the playfully inventive talent of Chef Esau Crosby brings unexpected twists to familiar Maine staples such as grilled swordfish and mignonette sauce. On a recent evening, the marinated & grilled swordfish was served with an inspired housemade ketchup based in retrieving the condiments’ pre-Heinz history, while the punchy & peppery mignonette offered fresh counterpoint, rather than drab camouflage, for a half dozen perfectly shucked and presented Robinhood Cove oysters. The music mix in the dining room offered a subtle clue to what was going on in the kitchen, offering an unusual (for Maine restaurants!) mix of jazz ballads from John Coltrane to Billie Holiday turning familiar tunes inside out, thereby making them new again. There was something both slightly sad and slyly humorous about seeing the same ole “Garden Salad" (yawn) listed as a daily "special", while from the regular seasonal menu we thoroughly enjoyed playful riffs on beet salad, here served as a colorful composition with pea shoots, cashews and shaved fennel; and in a second salad, baby greens were brought into perfect harmony with roasted local apples. The wine list was equally as playful. Yes, there were the inevitable California Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Cab Savs (double yawn), yet we were pleasantly surprised by the presence of an excellent Loess Grüner Veltliner and a delightful Argiolas Armentino from Sardinia. With regret, we must report the one sour note for our otherwise memorable evening at Blue, and that is the clumsy performance of the two Grey Havens (triple yawn) Innkeepers, who would be better advised to let the excellent front-of-house staff do their thing unencumbered by their bossy & boorish attempts at conducting, sort of like like beginner tuba players barging into a jam session among seasoned pros. In sum, we will happily return to Blue for as long as Chef Crosby performs at the heart of the mix. As for the Inn, well, the front porch does offer a lovely view of coves and offshore islands. For us, that will be "Inn" enough!“

“Omg such an amazing experience if you get the chance to go do it you won't ever forget it. The owner and his family are so very nice and came around and made sure every guest was ok and provided refreshments when needed. We had such a great time the meal was absolutely amazing then we took a small hike around the island to work it all off.“

“Booked 2 rooms last minute and so glad I did! This is a waterfront older hotel. Our rooms were spacious, outfitted with refrifg. microwave and small keurig. Both rooms (king and double) were immaculate! The covered waterfront deck was a comfortable nice size and we enjoyed our breakfast there. The motel dining area has lots of table seating with a Waterview for the included breakfast. Coffee was hot and plentiful. I think coffee/tea is available all day. The hotel is an L shape. Our rooms were the last 2 rooms (222 and 223) at the end of the L closest to the road..so our Waterview was an angle view. I think the owners need to plant a evergreen by the road to give some road screening for 223 room. Rooms 101 to 109 overlook the marina. Rooms on 2nd level look over marina. Rooms 112 to 119 and floors sbove overlook the harbor rather then marina.the rooms. And ours 222 and 223 was an angle harbor view. If handicap and need elevator it is in the lighthouse (see photo) Motel location is about a 7 minute ride to Boothbay Main St.. About a 3 min ride to local grocery store and circle k convenience store. I think it is a great location on the harbor away from the crowds yet very close. I like no restaurant as place is quiet in the evening. If you want to walk the footbridge into town the Boothbay Inn is a better location but I much prefer Brown's Wharf. I will be back to stay again and Kudos to the owners for keeping this waterfront motel comfortable, clean and in great condition.Rooms: Large rooms, comfortable seating. “The clam hunter is by far the best oysters. Steamers were great good times made a good friend of mine eat 120 oysters 10 pounds of steamers farted up a storm, but it was good good times won’t be disappointed!!!!!!!!! Friendly as well, down Maine“

“Just a simple five star review: Always fresh, good prices, friendly and knowledgable about everything in the shop. Plenty of lobsters and usually a couple different kinds of salmon and other fillets.Occasional specials like smoked fish and other delicious things from the sea.We recently bought dozens of super fresh local Oysters there ($1 to $1.50 each) and they packed them with ice and lemon so we could shuck them on the beach.“

“We had a delicious meal at Long Reach from drinks, starters, mains, a special and dessert!! Everyone was pleased with their choices. The view was lovely , even from the inside, and the outdoor area, weather permitting , is beautiful. Our server, Jacelyn was a delight! “We were really happy that we found and tried Robinson's Wharf. The staff was really friendly, definitely a tight-knit team, helping each other out to always make sure the customers had what they needed. There was not much of a crowd, because this is in the off season - we had our choice of table, which we now understand is not possible at all in the summer. The menu had great options. Everything we had was made there - no frozen foods. We had the New England clam chowder, (generous amounts of clam, bacon and potato chunks, in a buttery broth). We tried the fried artichoke hearts - they were fresh-made, with a light batter and aioli dipping sauce, very tasty. For dinner, we had a lobster dinner (nice size, great cole slaw, and only the corn was subpar, but that's because it's so far off season) and a crispy caprese sandwich (nice rounds of fried and gooey mozzarella, on tasty toasted Tuscan bread) with awesome fries. Our waitress, Alyssa, took lots of her time to share information on the vibe and culture. Great laid-back place, really good food, reasonable prices. Best of all, good staff who genuinely liked being there.“

“This place is the absolute best. The chef is a genius - underrated as far as I'm concerned, as this is some of the most delicious, inspired food in the harbor - if not the best. “At Whale’s Tale on Wednesday music and good vibes rule!! I wandered through Booth Bay in search of an authentic Maine musical and gastronomic adventure and so I stumbled on the news in an online site , called, and found out that open mic Wednesday with Dave Gagne was about to begin. A great intimate group of pretty darn good musicians were a treat to all. Dave is a talented and generous host who makes all us singer/songwriters feel welcome. and appreciated . And with Jersey Man behind the bar and great food ( I had haddock tacos) Whale’s Tale checks every box!!!“

“Celebrated our anniversary here and it was a nice cozy way to round out another year together! It was right across the street from our bnb and was one of the few places in the area open in early April (harder to find than you think!) so was all in all very convenient. We tried the grilled Caesar, crab cakes, lazy lobster and baked haddock with crab stuffing, and the blueberry pie. Grilled Caesar: yum, all good things, no complaints Crab cakes: pretty good, but would have preferred a few more lumps to change up the texture a bit Lazy lobster: my partner really enjoyed this, especially the fettuccine Baked haddock: a bit bland overall and the crab stuffing was the same as the crab cake, so same thoughts there Blueberry pie: filling was delicious but crust was a bit salty for our taste. Servers were very kind and attentive, always filling our waters and checking in on us which was appreciated!“

“Cute fish fry shack with huge portions! There’s parking on site and picnic tables with umbrellas. Service was quick, and the food was delicious. There’s a vending machine out back for drinks ($3 each). This is a cash only restaurant. It seemed to be a popular spot for both locals and tourists!“

“Stopped in Booth Bay specifically for a soft shell lobster dinner. I was not disappointed! The lobster was a full pound and a half and full of meat! Mo tools were required to separate the shell from the meat. My wife ordered the scallop dinner and she was not disappointed. We will be back!“

The plentiful watercraft/sailboats are in good shape, no waiting around to get access and there are knowledgeable and friendly staff (and they are waiting to help you, no searching for someone to help). Kids activities were more abundant than I realized, with a full game room with foosball, ping pong, table shuffleboard and board games with tables to play them. You can view the bay right from inside the pool. Trivia night was a blast by the wood fire place. Overall an excellent time that surpassed our expectations.Walkability: Nice amount of grounds, but easily traversable.“

“Husband and I finally returned to Booth Bay, Me after probably 5 years, I must say when you snooze, you loose! I love this area and it didn’t take long to realize it. Won’t happen again! I do remember eating at Karen’s Hideaway and upon arriving at our Campground, we made a bee line the next day for an early dinner. Karen and her husband are the most nicest and kind people!! Hub and I both got large Lobster Rolls, each one with 1/2 pound of meat nestled in a buttered, toasted hot dog bun. Hub had his with light mayo, I had mine naked with drawn butter. We both had her delicious potato salad made with bacon and cheese. Very good hot fries as well. That Lobster was so perfectly cooked and so tender. We both were in Hog Heaven!! We had very little conversation because are mouths were full of lobster goodness. It was fantastic! We got a tour of the live Lobster tanks, Karen’s husband Garry even posed with two lobsters for me, he has the great gift of gab, lucky me! Other than Lobster and Crab rolls, you can get Hamburgers and Hot dogs and dinners. A great road side place to eat, many picnic tables with umbrellas to eat your food. Save yourself the aggravation of going downtown trying to find a parking spot, just pull up and plenty of parking and enjoy the fresh air and a Delish, fresh Lobster or Crab roll. “We have been coming to stay in a cabin in Phippsburg for years, and I knew there had to be a way to get fresh, local seafood at a reasonable price. Now I know where! The sisters will steam lobsters for about half what we'd pay in a restaurant, and then you go pick them up and bring them home. They also have other merchandise available, including crackers and pickers and hats. But WOW was it good lobster, and at a price I'm very happy to pay. I'm sure we'll be back before we go home again. Along the way to their house is a little farmstand that has everything else you need for a lobster dinner. They will also sell them live, but I am way too squeamish for that!“

“An older place, but comfortable and clean. Nice view. Our meals were amazing! Fresh haddock, and plenty of it, fried to perfection. My mom had scallops and shrimp, and my husband had a margherita pizza. All meals were wonderful. Will definitely go back. The staff were so helpful, especially with my 93 year old mother.“

“A couple of weeks ago I rated Spinneys a 2 that was because they were closed OFF SEASON and we had dipped in the ocean out front. Let me say that I eat at Spinneys during the summer. I have eaten there as long as I can remember and it has always been great place to go.“
