“When visiting Maine two years ago, my husband and I were looking for gluten free restaurants, which can be quite the chore. After reading the reviews for Shannon's, we drove to Boothbay and couldn't believe all the gluten free options. We ordered more food than we needed because there were so many options. Everything was fresh and delicious. Seriously, gluten free onion rings! During that trip, we ate there twice and twice again the next year. We are looking forward to next year's trip and more Shannon's food. In addition to the food, the staff are warm, welcoming and friendly and make you feel like a neighbor instead of a tourist. We are huge Shannon's Unshelled fans!“

“We've been going to Karen's for many years. The ambience is side-of-the-road but the food is amazing. The crab BLT is to die for. The fries are always great. I always manage to wrangle loaded baked potato salad and pineapple coleslaw sides because they are both super delicious and I shouldn't have to choose! Love Karen's!“

“Let me put the cart before the horse and tell you this was one of the best, if not the best, experiences I have had at a restaurant. Corrinna was lovely. She took time to explain to this uninitiated wine consumer the differences between wines, glasses, and tasting, as well as pairing with foods. Speaking of food, this was also splendid. We started with oysters, which was a first, calamari, pork belly, arancini, and focaccia that melted in your mouth. My main course was the Swordfish with sweet potato puree, fingerling, and swordfish "bacon" jam. This is a silent gem that I selfishly stays quiet for my purposes, but Back River Bistro needs to be visited by anyone who loves a small curated dining experience. Much success to Matt & Corrinna. From the moment we arrived, the magnificent harbor view beckoned us to sit in a big ol’ rocking chair on the Inn’s lovely porch, cocktail in hand & relax completely into the moment. Oh & sunsets? Outstanding! Our first moments at Grey Havens were so warm & welcoming. Actually even before arriving, calls with innkeepers, Ali & Carlos, had us beyond excited for our initial stay. I say initial because of course we definitely will return & soon I hope! I could list endlessly all the delightful elements that the Grey Havens team have combined to create a place in which one can truly & gloriously unwind. From the lovely & cozy guest rooms to the gorgeous bay-windowed common room (with its stunning actual bay-view) the vibe is marvelous. Grey Havens feels quintessentially seaside Maine with just the barest but perfect touch of some lovingly placed & demure whimsy to intrigue a curious eye. Our initial stay dates did not overlap with Blue’s calendar, sadly. However the many tales we heard of Chef Esau’s creations have us drooling in anticipation. We will ensure we enjoy a dinner at Blue upon our return to Grey Havens.“

“We had breakfast there today. Everything about the experience was wonderful. Prices are the best around, and portions are large. The blueberry pancakes are thick and fluffy and as big as a dinner plate! The view of the water was beautiful.“

“Ports of Italy is one of our absolute favorite restaurants—not only in town, but in all of Maine. We travel throughout the state quite a bit, and few restaurants consistently impress us the way Ports of Italy does. Everything we’ve ever ordered has been absolutely delicious, with the eggplant appetizer being a particular favorite. The atmosphere is equally wonderful: cozy and intimate, yet distinctly coastal and perfectly suited to its setting.

We also have to give a special shoutout to George, our favorite server. He is incredibly kind, genuine, and attentive without ever being overbearing. We genuinely look forward to being seated at one of his tables each time we visit. Great food, a wonderful atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality make Ports of Italy a place we’re always happy to return to.“

“Have been going to Shaws during our many visits to Maine. Their food is top quality fresh seafood! From whole lobsters to lobster rolls you can't go wrong! You can eat inside but the outside tables provide the best views of the New Harbor cove and the lobster boats!! Prices are high, but with today's economy they are in line for fresh seafood! You can pick your live lobster 🦞 and it will be prepared for you with lots of butter and a bib to keep your clothes clean. Today we had the lobster rolls and a couple of beers!“

“My wife and I were at the lounge the last 2 nights. Great atmosphere, the bartender was extremely friendly. It was our second trip to Boothbay/Sunset Lounge. Or previous experience was the same. Great place to visit, the Harbor Inn is away from the restaurants, shops and bars, but it is only a footbridge away.

Parking: Stay at the harbor inn, you won't drive again until you are ready to leave. Everything is within walking distance.“

“This is one of our favorite spots. We go back every trip. The view is A+. Nothing compares to sitting out on the deck, watching the boats while enjoying a drink.

The food is always great. The clam chowder is one of the bests on BBH. The bang bang shrimp and the Caesar with blackened haddock. Everything is fresh and consistently delicious.

What makes it even better is the people. Chloe, Katy and Lily are the BEST and make you feel right at home every single time. They’re a huge part of why we keep coming back.
