“From the moment we arrived, our experience was nothing short of amazing. The food was outstanding—every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was warm, friendly, and fun, making it the kind of place where you immediately feel comfortable and welcome. On top of that, the location is fantastic, with plenty of activities nearby to enjoy before or after your meal, which really added to the overall experience. The highlight of our visit, however, was our waitress, Ashley W. She went above and beyond in every way. Ashley anticipated our every need before we even had to ask, showing an attentiveness that is rare to find. She was friendly, personable, and very knowledgeable about the menu, which made ordering so much easier and more enjoyable. Her positive energy and genuine care turned what was already a great dining experience into something truly memorable. Ashley is, without a doubt, the main reason my family and I plan to return. Her service left such a lasting impression on us that we would gladly make the trip back to Michigan just to eat here again. It is rare to come across someone who takes so much pride in their work and makes every guest feel special, but Ashley did exactly that. She is an absolute asset to this restaurant, and we cannot thank her enough for making our visit exceptional.“

“The food we ordered was absolutely delicious, even the cornbread that we had to force ourselves to stop eating lol! The service and vibe was great as well. The only thing I didn’t like was walking up the stairs to the dinning area. I want to bring my in laws but they don’t do stairs and if I recall, it’s like 2 flights. Also, as we were walking up the staircase, we encountered an unpleasant musty smell. I plan to return because the food was that good but I hope the smell will be taken care of by then.“

Walking in you notice how delicious everything smells, how clean everything is and how friendly everyone who works here is. The food is top notch. The breadding on the catfish fritters made my mouth water, the greens made me want to write home, the mac and cheese was perfectly cooked and the meatloaf was so tender and tasty. Then the dessert! Peach cobbler that made me make obscene noises, the creamy vanilla scoop and the amazing red pop sorbet were bursting with flavorful perfection. I highly recommend going here and trying everything.“

“For a soul food restaurant the food was very close to homemade.The collard green were good.The bathroom left a lot to be desired. It was very nasty.The floors were sticky even in the bathroom. Overall the food was good and I would go back again.“

“Had a taste for Soul Food. I was traveling 75N through Detroit and wanted to find an authentic place right off the interstate. When I got my food and had a side of hot sauce that I didn't specifically request, I knew this was the real deal. Took me 10 minutes to get there off of the interstate. Most people probably place their order online and pickup because there is no in person dining. Option 2, which is what I did, is to walk up to the window and order. My food took about 20 minutes to get ready. I ordered 2 plates. Each plate comes with 2 sides. The serving size is large so you definitely get your money's worth. I'm from the South. The food reminded me of home. Altogether between both plates I tried fried porkchops, meatloaf smothered in gravy, collard greens, yams, Mac and cheese, and cornbread. I will definitely stop here again.“

“As soon as I got out of my car, the smell of delicious food assaulted my nose. I was hoping the food was as good as it smelled. I was not disappointed. Even though the food was basic, everything was seasoned just right & that made the difference. The jerk wings were not jerk to me, but had a nice smokey flavor. The mac & cheese did not look that great & I wish it had been baked longer, but was still tasteful. I prefer fresh green beans these days, but theirs was the old school kind with potatoes & again, seasoned just right. The cornbread was sweet if you like a Jiffy box flavor. The wait time was a standard 15 minutes. The decor is very old & outdated, but there are a few tables if you'd like to eat inside or wait for your food. I drove over 30 minutes to try their food and If I'm ever in the area again, I'd return.“

I tried the beef rib slab dinner that comes with two large sides (macaroni and yams) and two whole wings that did not make the pictures since they were devoured in the car! (I paid for one and got two, what a pleasant surprise!) I had to try the dessert, so I bought a large peach cobbler. ( I was also gifted the fried biscuits that were a 10/10).

Nita R hooked me up and really went above and beyond and made sure I would be back. Make sure you take care of her! $$$

“Yall I literally love this place! This is one of the spots that I gate-Keep because I really don’t want a lot of people knowing about this place, not even my siblings. The workers are always nice and the food is good and Great prices! they have soul food and pizza and it doesn’t taste extremely unhealthy like these other chain fast food places. I just got some food from them on Monday and I’m going back again today 😂 As a Detroit native if you haven’t had this place, I HIGHLY suggest eating here!“

“Sitting here this good Sunday morning anticipating the day J's Cafe will reopen. I can't wait, and it's been too long. Nobody in Detroit makes Salmon croquets served with rice and gravy 😋 (my preference over grits)👌with scrambled eggs as good as J's does. This is my ultimate hands down favorite breakfast spot that brings that southern down home soulfood taste 😋 to your stomach. The dinners are fire too! This was a very happening place and a lot of us are patiently waiting for you to return. Sunday mornings aren't the same without J's Cafe ain't no lie in the truth and that's coming from your favorite DDOT bus driver Roger Webb aka Big Unc.“

“We loved it. The server was wonderful. The food was delicious and the presentation was nice. I did not like the greens, but everything else was a hit. The bread was made to perfection.
We lucked out and did not have to wait long, but I recommend calling ahead because tables are limited. Also, a 20 % gratuity is automatically added. Would definitely return.“

“I went to Velle's Grille yesterday for dinner in the hope of supporting a black owned business. I have no regrets. I had the Turkey Chops with Mac & cheese, collard greens and a side of yams. Good portion sizes. Everything was hot and seasoned perfectly. My meal was delicious. My husband had chicken wings with baked beans and macaroni. He also ordered a burger. He says the burger was delicious and the sides were on point. He woke up and ate the chicken for breakfast and he says we gotta go back lol. Overall we are definitely giving this place another chance.“

“First time at the restaurant on a busy Sunday. The food did not disappoint and either did the service. Stacie our waitress was attentive and on point. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We had everything from fried catfish, meatloaf, short ribs, BBQ ribs, fried pork chop and chicken and waffle along with a variety of sides and beverages. I even got a ToGo of the short ribs because they were so tender (a little fatty but tender still). We were a party of 9 and they seated us with no problem. It was a little stuffy and definitely needed more air circulation.“

“I recently dined here with my significant other; 12/28/25 just as an “wind down “ intimate dinner prior to the end of the year. I had frequented Savannah Blue a few times, however this was my guy's first time. We both ordered the salmon with grits which was well prepared and seasoned to perfection; very delicious. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. The music level was a bit loud. We had to talk loudly to hear each other. Our waitress, her name escapes me, was very attentive and friendly. “I ordered a catfish and chicken wing ding combo and the chicken drum/flat were literally less than an inch long each. I couldn't believe they would serve a portion of that size. The remainder of the food was seasoned well. My husband and I went back, terrible decision, July 27th. We ordered food at 1230 and we got our food at 150am when the place closed. We asked for our table to be cleaned-never happened. The staff were rude at closing, the music was shut off and lights turned on in the middle of a song without warning. Staff started yelling, "Get out, you need to leave!" We were still waiting on our food. Staff yelled that phrase to us and we told him we have been waiting on our food fir over an hour. They were still trying to make us leave without our dinner. We eventually received our food and left. It cost $40 to get in, there's a drink minimum and 20% gratuity on food. We will not be returning and if anybod6asks about this restaurant, I will discourage them from patronizing this business.“

“I could eat at celebrities bar and grill everyday! The lamb chops are great with the celebity sauce a must try you won't be disappointed. I normally get turkey chops with a side of mac n cheese and a side of yams and they never disappoint. They know what they're doing with the food so give them a try if you never had it you'll be glad you did. Only thing I wish they would change is taking orders over the phone again because it can be a nice little wait sometimes to get your food after you order in person depending on how busy they are.“
