“My friends and I hit this bar up on the biggest bar night of the year! Thanksgiving Eve! We arrived around 10:00pm (no cover) and it was already so packed. They played great music, the DJ was seriously on point. Jack and Coke was only $6.00 and the pours = very very very strong. I was impressed with the environment. The bartenders were nice, the people around me were nice, it was just a really cool vibe! The only thing I'll say is...the bathrooms! Way too small for the amount of people allowed in that bar. And they could have used a little more attention as well. Other than that....great place.“

“I highly recommend this bar, the atmosphere is calm and inviting. You’re allowed to bring your own food while enjoying their delicious drinks on-site.
I absolutely loved the margarita vodka, it was fantastic! You can even tell the waitress how strong you want it, and they’ll make it just right.
We were served by a lady called Marr today ,she was incredibly kind, patient, and professional. If management is reading this, she definitely deserves a raise or bonus.

“I visited this past Valentine’s Day weekend and visited again this past Saturday night. I didn’t have a reservation but still got seated very quickly. It was a hot, muggy night and the hostess said she had a seat on the patio which I was fine with. I had a magnificent server, Florence, who was kind, thoughtful to recommend a drink to the person I was with and even when our drinks were brought out within a short time, apologized for the delay (which wasn’t necessary). I wish I could give a review on the party next to us because they were extremely rude, not only not giving consideration to others being on the patio but were also incredibly rude to Florence. One woman in particular was grandstanding in front of this group and demanded to speak to a manager. Florence and the Manager were both composed and dignified in spite of a rude patron that was looking to get her bill comped (for a party of nearly a dozen people) going so far as to threatening to have everyone at her table write a terrible review. I have worked in the service industry and so have so many people I know and love so this situation had me worked up and I felt it necessary to write a review that our experience was magnificent. Don’t be an a-hole to servers of any kind just because you’re an a-hole yourself. If you give respect, you get respect. Go to The Sugar House. Be a good customer.“

“We had a lovely time on the patio with our dog at this bar. We ordered margaritas (a jalapeño one and a guava one), guacamole appetizer, & a buffalo chicken wrap entree. Everything was delicious. My first jalapeño margarita had over 20 seeds in it and they were kind enough to remake it for me without any big deal about it. The service was fantastic and we truly enjoyed our time! It is still nice to visit and see the old dance floor, pool table and beautiful bar maid. People are friendly, you can go against some really good pool players, and if you like dancing come through. “Wonderful Coffee! The hand made syrups were probably the best I ever had. I tried two lattes, one with vanilla lavender and the other with honey cinnamon and they were great! I recommend both of them with oatmilk. The owner was super friendly with my party and I and we had a very nice conversation with her while she made our lattes. Down Under is only FOUR minutes away from the TCF, walking. There is NO reason to ever get Starbucks again while I am in Detroit for Youmacon. A definite must for all the con goers to give them a try!“

“Stopped here one night with several friends. There were seven of us. I ordered the Pommes Frittes and Escargot. They were both very tasty. Since it was late only one of us ordered dinner. Our server was outstanding! Liked the atmosphere, plan to go back for dinner.“

The pork collar was a great blend of textures and flavors - I got extra bread just to have a delivery vehicle for the peach conserva in this dish. The croquettes were a must too, they packed so much mushroom goodness in them. We got 3 small plates and 4 large plates, which was more than enough for 4 people. Will be coming back again.“

“We made a 6:30 pm reservation online for my wife'sbirthday. Someone called to confirm the reservation within minutes and confirmed we were celebrating a birthday. Which was strange because no one ever said Happy Birthday! That aside we had the best dinner. Our server Shelly was amazing. She gave great recommendations and history on the restaurant. We visited the restaurant under the former owners but the new owner updated everything. Shelly even let us know about the windows in the hall where we were able to see the chefs making food, and the dry aging meat was neat to see. We had crab cakes, wedge salad, French onion soup, Aged Ribeye and Halibut. We couldn't eat another bite, so we ordered the chocolate flour less cake and it was an enormous piece that we enjoyed two nights! Great evening. It was dinner and experience! I forgot to mention the jazz band was a lot of fun too!“

“I have gone to the Whitney every year for Christmas dinner. It was annual holidays to celebrate with my nieces. Last Christmas holiday we chose to take the buffet. I was extremely disappointed. All I wanted was prime rib. The server was not very friendly. She stared at me and I was very uncomfortable when I asked for the prime rib only. There was just a small end piece and she gave me a very thin slice close resembling lunch meat. I don’t understand since I paid for a complete meal and it wasn’t cheap. I could’ve gone somewhere else and had a wonderful prime rib dinner. The au jous was not warm, so that was very disappointing. I will never do the buffet again if it’s like last year. In previous years, I’ve attended the buffet and it was outstanding.“
