My daughter and I each ordered our own meal and the proportions were large enough to bring leftovers home. The flavors are incredible. They are deep and layered, and have the perfect spice.My daughter had the Jungle Mussels. The broth could be a meal on its own with the garlic toast to dip in it. The chicken curry (KHAO SOI ) was also the most flavorful version I’ve had. My only pause was the whole drumstick. I would have preferred smaller pieces in the broth than picking apart the chicken off the bone. The Coconut pan cake appetizer was fun and different. So delicious. My daughter had the non-alcoholic blackberry and cardamom tea. I had the Special Thai tea with rum. Both were delicious and complimented the meal well.My daughter was treated with a desert of coconut ice cream with a crumble topping and sauce. Was so good, no other ice cream desert could compare.The service was attentive and had a menu prepared for us to indicate the allergens we needed to avoid. “Service and ambiance were first class. Caesar salad prepared table side and Parmesan Mushroom Risotto were exceptional. Both Steaks was very salty and a little tough for a ribeye prepared medium. One steak was sent back because it was closer to well done after sitting on the hot plate. Will try again in the future and ask for light seasoning and for them to leave my steak unsliced to avoid it over cooking the interior on the hot plate its served on.“

It is small but that's part of the charm. The lobby of the hotel is also a cool vibe so when people complain about sitting out there,I don't get it. I would only be annoyed being a hotel guest and NOT being able to sit in the lobby. The drinks aren't cheap but it's for sure a fun stop.“
“We had not been to the Caucus Club in 40 years. We will not wait that long to return. An exceptional dinner. The room is elegant and very comfortable. The tables are nicely spaced so you are never too close to your fellow diners. Antonio was our waiter and the service was excellent - half empty glasses immediately refilled and dirty dishes quickly removed. Antonio prepared a table side Caesar salad that was both light and delicious. I had scallops and my wife had chicken Scallopini. The scallops were perfectly cooked and my wife said it was the best chicken she remembers eating. For desert my wife had a chocolate torte that was otherworldly. Just a fantastic dinner. Unbeknownst to us, a jazz trio plays on Saturday evenings - a piano, stand up bass and drum. They were excellent and the music truly elevated the experience. We stayed an extra 20 minutes just listening to the trio. All the way home we talked about how wonderful our evening had been. Great food, fantastic service, elegant room, soulful jazz and a warm, comfortable ambience = exceptional evening. My new favorite restaurant.“

“Aptly named, Standby is still the best restaurant + cocktail bar in Detroit. Whenever I'm downtown, I'm hard pressed to choose to go elsewhere because I just honestly would prefer to be here. The cocktails are consistently spectacular, and the rotating food menu is always enticing and delicious. I also consistently receive exceptional service. Top this off with an immaculate vibe, and you've got the makings of, well, a standby. I've come with family to celebrate birthdays, with friends to toast to a promotion, with my husband for an intimate date night, and solo when I just wanted to treat myself. Because of the seasonal menu rotations, there is always something new and interesting to sip or bite. A constant cocktail on the menu that I highly recommend is called the Snake in the Grass. But the best cocktail I had here was called the Black Beretta and was made with clementine sherbet and black sesame - outstanding! I also love that they have a rotating "break-even bottle" - where you can get a taste of typically pricey pours of whiskey, tequila, etc. for just as much money as it costs for them to break even on the bottle.“

“This is the second time I've been to this bar, both times for live music being played there. The only issue I see for it as a venue is that the stage is just as dark as the rest of the bar. They do have a nice selection of whiskey and tequila, the bathrooms are unisex and clean, and they have cute outdoor area out back, through the pea gravel isn't the best for standing.“

Every time a plate was brought to our table, the server would already be walking away, while describing the contents of the dish. When we would wave the server down to ask a question, he never fully stopped at our table and didn’t wait to see if we had any other questions. He just walked away. No oil or garlic and bread was not warm. The meals were excellent but portions very small again (pasta is cheap). A friend of mine said she went home and ate again. I felt embarrassed because I picked this place. The meals we had were not cheap. Drinks were all good. Oh ya the other thing they charge $6 if you don’t want their home salad for caesar.
