“We had our Detroit wedding reception here in the private event space in the back. We could not have been more pleased with our experience! Heather, the manager, was attentive and professional from the initial meeting about renting the space, all of the planning and throughout the event. All of the staff were so fun and kind! They kept everything organized and the drinks flowing during the reception. We had a wonderful experience here and we are so glad we chose this as our venue! “I visited this past Valentine’s Day weekend and visited again this past Saturday night. I didn’t have a reservation but still got seated very quickly. It was a hot, muggy night and the hostess said she had a seat on the patio which I was fine with. I had a magnificent server, Florence, who was kind, thoughtful to recommend a drink to the person I was with and even when our drinks were brought out within a short time, apologized for the delay (which wasn’t necessary). I wish I could give a review on the party next to us because they were extremely rude, not only not giving consideration to others being on the patio but were also incredibly rude to Florence. One woman in particular was grandstanding in front of this group and demanded to speak to a manager. Florence and the Manager were both composed and dignified in spite of a rude patron that was looking to get her bill comped (for a party of nearly a dozen people) going so far as to threatening to have everyone at her table write a terrible review. I have worked in the service industry and so have so many people I know and love so this situation had me worked up and I felt it necessary to write a review that our experience was magnificent. Don’t be an a-hole to servers of any kind just because you’re an a-hole yourself. If you give respect, you get respect. Go to The Sugar House. Be a good customer.“

“We walked in to the Buhl Bar and where greeted by George and Aish they where both so friendly and so full of information. We provided our preferences in taste and allowed George to select and make our cocktails. He nailed our tastes and delivered the best cocktails we have had. This place has such a great art deco vide the service was second to none and the drinks amazing. Thank you George and Aish it was a pleasure to have meet you both.“

“It was quiet when we went on Friday evening, but everyone was nice. They were sadly out of the one food we really wanted to try, but The Goat cocktail made up for it. I'm always happy to try something a little more unique that ends up tasting just as good and better than widely-loved classics. I'd definitely go back to have it again.“

“Wonderful Coffee! The hand made syrups were probably the best I ever had. I tried two lattes, one with vanilla lavender and the other with honey cinnamon and they were great! I recommend both of them with oatmilk. The owner was super friendly with my party and I and we had a very nice conversation with her while she made our lattes. Down Under is only FOUR minutes away from the TCF, walking. There is NO reason to ever get Starbucks again while I am in Detroit for Youmacon. A definite must for all the con goers to give them a try!“

- Decor: Almost everything was custom build or original historical pieces.

Overall, this place is super comfortable and is the definition of a clean, classy pub/bar. It’s full of creativity and personality.

If you want history, the waitstaff can walk you through the renovations and history of the building going back to when it became the iconic Jacoby’s in 1904 and further to when it used to be a blacksmith shop and being originally built in the 1800’s.

“Great people and good fun until new management now the drinks are overpriced for the environment they have done absolutely nothing in 20 years to the establishment not even update the televisions but the price jumped two or three dollars on the drinks miss me with it I'll have to find a new watering hole“

“Ate in the lounge and had fantastic service. Lovely wood smoke smell in the place. Tried 4 different red wine between my wife and I, all terrific. The small plates we tried were all excellent. My favorite was the whipped salted cod and my wife loved the maitake mushrooms. The mains were also great, the halibut was our favorite. The sherry for dessert was great.

Overall, a surprisingly good meal with fun and knowledgeable wait staff. Best meal I e had had in a good while.“

I first discovered them at pop up they had near Campus Martius, but finally got to go to their new home on Holden. The interior is pretty small, so not best for big groups but a date night or for a party of two is just fine. I wish it was closer to me so I could get take out. We got the Packard Pepperoni and the Mclovin pizza. Both were excellent, I loved the origniality of the Mclovin which was a nod to like a big mac. Anytime I can go again, I definitely will be. Check out this gem if you want to really know what Detroit style pizza is like.“

Our group had quite a few requests, but Hunter handled everything with a smile and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed.
