I lived at nearby Wrightsville Beach & had my office at the State Port in Wilmington for two years. Although there are many other great seafood & other type restaurants in the Wilmington Wrightsville beach area that I love, the ‘Pilot House’ Restaurant was, & still is, at the very top of my list favorite restaurant list in the U.S.! The unbeatable atmosphere of sitting out in the Cape fear River together with the fresh and delicious ‘She-Crab soup’, unique selection of other very fresh fish entrées really made my day! “A family owned restaurant since 2008, Black Sea Grill offers up legitimate Mediterranean flavors in a casual and friendly environment.\n\nAlthough this visit was our first time, it obviously is no secret given every table was full.\n\nThe Appetizer Sampler - Humus, Stuffed Grape Leaves, Eggplant Delight and Falafel, served with Pita bread - was delicious. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and received rave reviews from all participants. (Not pictured due to pace at which everyone dug in!)\n\nDinner choices abound, drawing on traditional favorites and suitable for carnivores, vegetarians, vegans and guests with gluten sensitivities.\n\nA Surf and Turf consisted of Grilled Lamb Chops and Char-Grilled fillet of Mahi Mahi, both grilled expertly and seasoned well.\n\nThe Rainbow Trout (Butterflied North Carolina Trout), was a sizable portion and lightly seasoned.\n\nThe Falafel Dinner were compact and tasty without being dry or crumbling.\n\nKofte - Ground Lamb and Beef mixed together with Mediterranean Herbs & Spices and then Char-grilled - was warmly spiced with a nice char and great consistency.\n\nChicken Kabobs and Chicken & Beef Kabobs were similarly moist yet spiced and grilled nicely.\n\nA compact yet appropriate wine list includes red and white from Kavakildere. “my husband and I are setup at the riverfront holiday market and just had the wings and I had the fried porkchop sandwich at the Riverfront holiday market and they both are wonderful. my husband said the wings are seasoned so well and cooked perfectly he didnt need dipping sauce. the porkchop sandwich is fried perfectly and is large. next time you see them somewhere, you should stop in and get you some of their great food“

Five stars does not capture the experience of walking into Farfalla, just off 3rd Street in Wilmington, North Carolina — where the air itself seems to whisper, “You have made… the right decision.”

I ordered the pasta bolognese — because when one is at a place called Farfalla, one must trust the butterfly. And let me tell you… it soared. Perfectly al dente. Each bite a small revelation. Sauce that clung — not desperately — but lovingly. As though it understood its role in the grand design of flavor.

And the service.

Attentive. Precise. Arriving at the table not a moment too soon… not a second too late. Like a well-timed warp jump.
