Excellent food and service, they were understanding when part of our party was late to the reservation due to travel delays and tried their best to accommodate. They even gave me tea and crackers while waiting for my friends! Gratuity is included in the price (like how they do it in Japan) which is surprisingly refreshing and touching for NYC. Translated from Japanese, meaning “looks beautifully flavored,” my partner and I decided to stop for a quick bite at this establishment situated on a busy Boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights.

Upon entering this clean and relaxed vibe as first-timers to Oishi Sushi, we had the entire place to ourselves and decided on a table by the window. They also have a small stool area in front of the sushi chefs.

Their extensive menu comprises a range of sushi rolls, sashimi, and bento boxes.

We opted for the Seaweed Salad, Avocado Roll, and Vegetable Lover Roll.

Food was excellent, presented well, and using the freshest quality ingredients. The Seaweed Salad was a tad salty; otherwise, everything tasted deliciously good. The price and portions were reasonable. The service was quick; the staff was friendly and courteous.

“I’ve been to Star Sushi several times now, and every single visit has been great. The owner, Anthony, and his staff are always super friendly and welcoming. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers — it’s the kind of place where they remember you and your favorites.

The fish is always fresh and the rolls are consistently delicious! My go to is the Star Tower. The amount of fish is very generous and it blends perfectly well with the rice, avocados, roe and sauces. It’s honestly one of the best sushi spots around, both for the food and the people!“

“I got a takeout order of the lunch special chicken teriyaki bento box to try this place for the first time. The chicken was really soft and delicious. Under the chicken there is cabbage and broccoli which were both cooked well. The California roll was good - the rice had good flavor, and the avocado was soft. I feel more confident to try their raw sushi now. I'll update my review whenever I get around to trying that.

This place used to be a Chinese store, and around 2022 a new management took over and turned it into a sushi place. it still looks like a regular Bronx Chinese store inside. Unlike other sushi restaurants, this isn't really the kind of place I'd want to sit and eat. But it's great for takeout.“

“We had dinner at Matsu on Friday......its a little gem in Hillsdale. We were pleasantly surprised, by the quality and quantity of the food. The Staff went out of their way to accommodate us. When I say no, they make it sound like they can barely fit me in. Also, they refuse to serve tap water, they make you buy bottled. Not a bad place overall, but there are better options around.“
