Our office especially loves the croissant egg sandwiches with pork roll, they are always a huge favorite and disappear so fast. “This place gets 5 stars across the board for the vibes, service, and the food. I had the Peanut Butter Latte with an extra shot of espresso and oat milk. Even with the extra shot it was very balanced and smooth. Then I tried their signature breakfast sandwich called “The Lafayette” and it comes with hot honey on the side. It was FIREEE definitely recommend it to anyone who can eat it.

I know they serve other things like ramen and more food besides breakfast, so I will definitely be back if I am in the area. The owner Pat was great to talk to online and the staff in the shop were very kind as well. The spot also has a lot of space and is tucked into a cool nook of Jersey City.

“I live in the area and attend college out of town so getting to the library on my off days is tough. I've been looking for a place with a chill ambiance, wifi, good tea, and coffee. Well, look no more for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Great rustic look, comfy seating with back support, loads of outlets for laptops, and the second-floor space are super cute and cozy too. Oh and there's a small little outside area that's pretty cool as well. Shaquille (hope I spelled it right) was AMAZING! So down-to-earth, friendly, polite, and easy to talk to. She made me the Tumeric latte for me and I all but licked the cup clean. I had the hummus & cucumber on sourdough toast and it was divine. Also, a great option for vegans. I totally recommend this place if you have similar needs or just want to hang out with some friends. I will surely be going back.“

I also loved their strawberry cheese muffins! I can back today for the salted caramel latte and the cinnamon roll and they were delicious again! Definitely check out this place. The property manager, Tiffany, is awesome and is always so helpful. Everyone at the front desk is welcoming and always so nice and helpful. The Super is a really nice guy who always greets you with a smile. And the maintenance staff were all great! Never had any issues at all.

The giant windows allow great natural light in, and the space is rustic mixed with a bookstore. It would be great if they would place outdoor tables to invite visitors in. Honestly sometimes I can’t tell whether they are open or not….

Additionally, I do wish they offered variety such as sandwiches and dinner items and catered for longer hours until 7:30 pm. It would be ideal considering there’s a rush in the area past 6 pm. I am very curious to see how they stay afloat now with the new bagel shop down the block.

The female cashier is nice as well as the chef. The owner doesn’t show much expression or emotion, and I respect him for keeping to himself. I just hope you can keep up with the changes in the neighborhood, I’m rooting for you Basic Cafe!
