“If you are looking for a fancy dining experience, this is not the place, but if you want exceptional Chinese food, you've hit the jackpot. Think of Chinatown, not Ridgewood. Prepared from scratch, not quick, but with a touch of love. This tiny establishment has the standard fare and some twists on the originals that will make your taste buds dance. Pork dumplings become Mom's Dumplings with the insertion of a giant shrimp and an amazing homemade dipping sauce. Mangos are often added to many dishes for a change of flavor. Not spicy enough, ask Sherry to give it a boost, or the opposite, tamp it down a bit. Have you ever had lamb Chinese style? or one of many other specialties. The place has gotten a bad wrap from impatient patrons. Good food takes time to prepare, and fresh ingredients are not cheap. When we have company from out of the area, this is their requested restaurant. We have ordered food for one up to a catered meal for 100, always delish.“

“I stopped in here yesterday for lunch and it was without a doubt top 5 foods I’ve ever eaten, both inside and outside the U.S. The malatang hot pot broth was so savory and umami I couldn’t believe how good it was. Medium spice level was just a tad too much for me and I handle spice pretty well (should have listened to the girl at the front counter…). Cant wait to go back and try the other hot and dry pots.“

I got about 1.5 lbs of dry pot at 0.5 spicy and it was too spicy for me. I also think the saltiness can be reduced. Service was quick and restaurant is clean.

“Best chinese takeout around!Been coming here since I was a little kid (over 25 years). Food is good, portions are big. Your beef or chicken with broccoli actually comes with sizable amounts of beef/chicken. Other places just load up on broccoli to keep their profits. You can't go wrong!“

Not crispy as from can see in pic. Was this really beef also? Walnuts were plain as well.Steamed Spinach Dumplings were a bit dry . “Have taken out quite a few orders from this small local place, and I have to say; it’s better than any place else in the area. Insanely enough, we’ve even tried the Italian (yes, I said Italian) food on the menu and that was pretty good as well! It’s a crazy combo, but it works. Their hot and sour soup, is def one of the better ones I’ve had. All the their dishes are loaded with ingredients. The portions are not skimpy, prices are very reasonable for what you get. All ready when they tell you it will be, and given to you without any “attitude”. Give them a try….i doubt you’ll be disappointed.“

“I have not dined in yet, because I like to eat at home, so I can say these dumplings and buns travel very well. I love the pork and scallion dumplings, and the noodle dishes are so refreshing. I can't help but order tanghulu every time as well for a sweet refreshing crunchy dessert, and every drink I've had has been so good! Love the fruity teas, herbals teas, and creamy drinks. “Visited New Jersey for the weekend, and this was one of the top restaurant recommendations from locals. It absolutely lived up to the hype.

Everything we ordered was delicious, but one of my favorites—unfortunately I forgot to take a picture—was the mixed vegetables. They tasted incredibly fresh with a subtle balance of sweetness and tangy citrus. It was the perfect palate cleanser and made me want to keep eating more skewers 😆

“This place is a gem! My husband has been coming here since he’s been a kid. We were in the area and decided to stop in and eat. They were very pleasant and friendly on the phone when I called to place the order. The owner immediately recognized my husband once we arrived and was very welcoming. The place was very clean and the food was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be coming back here when we are in the area. Very happy this place hasn’t lost its touch over the years.“

“I've been ordering here for years. Their food is amazing. I am picky about Singapore Mei Fun. I had found one takeout place in Mendham that has done really well for years and when I work in that area I order it. On a whim I asked them how theirs was and said I would let her know. It was amazing. Along with the rest of the food. The egg rolls are crispy and not a drop of grease. Outstanding Chinese takeout. Keep up the good work.“

“We are seriously SO impressed with Essex Chinese Kitchen. The food is amazing — everything tasted incredibly fresh, flavorful, and high quality. And on top of that, the prices are very reasonable for the portions you get.

We ordered the bubble teas (brown sugar milk tea and original milk tea), and they were SO good — perfectly balanced with that floral black tea flavor coming through. Not overly sweet, just smooth and refreshing.

I got the golden fried brown shrimp with fried rice and it was FIRE. Crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and broccoli, and they absolutely do NOT skimp on portions. The serving sizes were generous and so satisfying.

The staff were also super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better.

I stopped eating just to write how much I love this spot. I order almost once a week. The food never disappoints and I believe they truly deserve 5 stars. They have wonderful customer service, always pleasant when I call, speedy delivery, and quality food (and packaging) There is no other chinese food in bergen country i’ve found that I can say has all of these qualities about them. Tonight I ordered sweet and sour chicken with chicken lo mein. The lo mein is so good I would give it a 9/10. The sweet and sour chicken is my favorite. 10/10. Highly recommend if you want quick delivery and great chinese food.“

“I love Great Wall. I’ve been eating here since I was a kid, all throughout college, and still today! They’re so patient & kind. My order is always ready within 10 minutes, always hot & fresh. Large portions for a great price. It’s easy to order from the restaurant’s website. I recommend scallion pancakes, cold sesame noodles, and the soups. I tried almost everything on the menu, from boneless spare ribs to scallops in garlic sauce— Great Wall is always going to be my favorite local spot.“

“The food at this Chinese restaurant is super good. I recently moved to Fairfield and needed to find a good spot for Chinese takeout out. So, I tried joy wok. I ordered sesame chicken combo and the Mongolian beef. They were both super good. I don’t normally like my sesame chicken a little spicy and they made it just right for me.
The customer service is also great. I had accidentally ordered white rice with the Mongolian beef and when I picked up my order they switched it to fried rice right away with no extra charge. Everyone there is super nice. Definitely recommend if you are in the area in search of a good Chinese spot.“
