“First time trying this spot out. Picked up a dozed bagels for a teenage sports team. Ordered plain and everything bagels with cream cheese. While I waited, there was a consistent line of what seemed to be regulars popping in to get their usual orders. The staff were efficient and courteous and got my order ready pretty quickly. I ordered a mini plain cream cheese bagel for myself to try out. I ended up eating the bagel on the way to the game. The cream cheese had partly melted on the bagel, which was toasty and delicious. I'm gonna go back and try a breakfast sandwich soon. This is a very small store, not tables to sit at, good choice of cream cheeses. They also had some good tea options that I could see on the back wall behind the counter.“

“I’m a bacon, egg, and cheese snob. I grew up around Jersey and Philly, then lived in Long Island, the city, Massachusetts, and now Connecticut. Through my pest control work, I’ve been in towns all over Connecticut, Westchester, Massachusetts, and Long Island. Everywhere I go, I make a point of finding the best-reviewed bacon, egg, and cheese I can on Google. I think I’m in the top 1% when it comes to trying them around the Northeast.

This is my favorite bacon, egg, and cheese I’ve ever had. It’s consistently made to perfection.

Everyone knows there’s a very traditional, correct way to make a bacon, egg, and cheese. I’ve had amazing variations, but the best and most traditional way is with a scrambled egg cooked on the grill and folded into a square, with the cheese inside. This makes the cheese melt and layers the sandwich perfectly.

Next is the bacon. It should be as crunchy as possible, and it is. Sometimes the heat from the sandwich softens the bacon, no matter how crispy you cook it. I’m not sure what these guys do, but the bacon is perfectly cooked and so crunchy every time. They crumble it into bits, almost like bacon jam, and layer it throughout the sandwich instead of just adding two or three strips. It’s so good.

Lastly, the bagels are amazing: boiled, then baked, with a harder exterior and a super doughy inside. My go-to is a bacon, egg, and cheese with mozzarella on a French toast bagel, plus a hash brown for extra crunch. Adding the hash brown is so good.

It’s a little expensive, but like Five Guys, it’s worth it every time.“

“I was reading the reviews and I see there was some reviews that are not so good. Let me tell you it is a small shop. It’s not fancy, but they’re the best bagels around and they’re not the most expensive either. The ladies work very hard. you don’t know that they have to fulfill some very big orders in the morning which take a lot of work. It’s very hot in there from the oven so some days they’re just drained. They don’t have the energy almost to smile, but believe me, there’s such sweet ladies. Sometimes you have to give people a benefit of the doubt. It’s not an easy job believe me and now they take credit and cash and I go early in the morning and I have the hottest best bagels and the spreads and other things are very good. yes it might seem expensive but you’re paying for the service and the convenience. “Perfect location with a municipal parking lot next to the cafe. GCBC bagels are as close to the bagels I grew up eating in Forest Hills. They are soft but slightly chewy. Perfect texture! When I go early in the morning after they've taken them out of the oven, I don't even ask them to toast it. Sometimes I have to wait in line because they're busy but that's a good sign. There are regulars who come every morning and read newspapers while having their bagels. It's a neighborly place with excellent bagels.“

“I have been going to this bagel shop for like four years now. It is the best bagel shop that I have found within a 6 mile radius. The ladies who work the front are so sweet and have incredible memories.

I am writing this review immediately after I had a peak Hastings Own Bagel experience. I walk into the store, she says: “Bad boy, scallion cream cheese, no toasted, iced coffee 2 sugars, black, large.” Needless to say I was out of there two minutes after entering.

In my probably 500 orders there has only ever been one mistake and it was when they had a new staff member and he confused me and someone else’s orders.

I talk about their bagels to people literally worldwide. They hold up incredibly well frozen and take like 3 days to get properly stale. The crumb is incredible, the crust is great. Literally what more could you ask for from a bagel shop.

Ok now on to the product more specifically and portions. I really think they have it down pat for the cream cheese to bagel ratio, there is never too much or two little, it’s a good serving and I feel like it is perfectly satiating. They have a great selection of bagels and have a pretty good spread variety. I personally go for the bad boy because everything is too far for me. They have a good griddle setup, whenever I get an egg and cheese or a BEC I find myself enjoying it, they could use a little more egg sometimes but I get it, trump’s America.

Anyways, this bagel shop may be my favorite store in the world thank you guys for dominating the Hastings bagel economy.“
