The best part is the pricing - I typically order a main with rice & naan and a couple glasses of wine and I always feel like I’m getting a deal. Definitely recommend!“

Everyone working there helps bring the food, clear the plates, refill water, etc. The food is fresh, bursting with flavor, and just the right level of spiciness (you are asked if you’d like the food, mild, medium, or spicy hot). The naan was freshly made, and even the rice was cooked perfectly and topped with some fresh cilantro. I took photographs of the food that we ordered today, but it was after we had eaten some; the portions are generous, and you can see that the food looks beautiful and appetizing. I missed taking a picture of the gorgeous homemade samosas; they were the best samosas we have ever eaten.“

“After eating so much (pizza etc )we needed to eat something different, spicy and booked this gem,as it as near to our hotel. It was also our 40th wedding anniversary. We are from U.K. This was amazing perfectly cooked tasty home made authentic Indian cuisine. We had mocktails ( lavender was refreshing ). The tandoori lamb chops x4 were full meat seasoned beautifully and delicious. All other sides perfect too. Now in U.K. we hate restaurant Indian puddings they are usually bought in and awful/failure. After finding out the chef is the owner and a recipient Michelin star we were convinced to stay,try and this was the first time we have had authentic home made puddings; try Kulfi with rose water & also Indian rice pudding. The whole meal was exceptional great value and we will recommend this restaurant to anyone else visiting New York. Easy to find off Times Square /Broadway. “Went here on a recent trip and had a good time. The Sharabi chicken tikka and ajwaini prawns were amazing and set the expectations really high for the main course. Sadly the Butter Chicken and Aloo Gobhi kofta were quite mid. I have had better at other regular non descript spots. Also ordered the Dal Makhani which was really good. Would definitely go back for the cocktails and appetizers but would skip the main course next time around.“

“I had such a wonderful dining experience here recently. Everything we ordered arrived fresh and full of flavor. The steam rising off the hot skillet was a perfect welcome to the meal, and the lemon slice on top was a nice touch.

Our hotel was about 1.5 miles and decided to walk it to work an appetite, it was well worth it. We ordered Chicken Biryani and Goat Vindaloo, my go to dish for rating Indian restaurants. We also ordered a Fried Sweet Potato Appetizer, Buttered Naan and Mango Lassis. Food tasted delicious and authentic. Good portions, Staff was attentive and accommodating, we packed and left our leftovers and picked it up after the show.“

They offer around 10–12 dosa varieties, rice dishes, and appetizers. Prices are very affordable, and the portions are moderate for the price, making it easy to try several items without spending much.

The service was good and fast. It’s an order-and-pick-up-over-the-counter kind of restaurant, making it a convenient option for a quick meal. There is plenty of seating in the basement, accessible by stairs or elevator. There’s also a small temple gift shop.

Parking can be challenging since it’s on a busy street, but a dedicated temple parking lot on Smart Street, one street over, has space for about 35–40 cars.

“We’ve been a few times, Masalawala and Sons is a really good Indian restaurant. They have a lot of great dishes executed well, the butter chicken, saag paneer, and chennar dalna were all very tasty. Their bread selection is outstanding. Also, they do really nice cocktails. Everything we ate from the menu was great. My problems with Masalawala are two things. It suffers from this restaurant groups approach to customer service. We ordered, the food started coming out well before our drinks, just after we finally received our drinks, everything we ordered was on the within minutes. Then the waiter disappears. No offer of a cocktail or beer refill until we’re nearly done eating. This is not a place to enjoy a long meal or relaxed conversation. It felt like we were in a timer and they wanted us out as quickly as possible. And the restaurant is smallish with close set tables, and does a lot of delivery. If you are sitting up front, you’re likely to spend most of your meal with a delivery person standing right over your table, they are in and out constantly and makes the space feel hectic and a little stressful. Overall, I think Masalawala and Sons is a place we might order delivery since the food is quite good. But we might head elsewhere for a more relaxed, customer focused dining experience.“

“My first time really exploring Bengali food and I'm blown away. The Kolkata dishes are fantastic, and even the Indo-Chinese chili chicken was amazing.

It's BYOB here with no corkage fee as of this writing, but it's only beer and wine allowed, no hard liquor.

I highly recommend the vegan Cholar Dal, it's a Bengali yellow split-pea/lentil dish with panch phoron (Bengali five-spice) and mustard oil. Fantastic!! Be sure to order a side of luchi poofy bread.

The grill dishes are always on point too. The tandoori chicken hits every time: juicy, smoky, just really good. And the butter chicken… best in the city. I order it every single visit without fail. If you like some real heat, the lamb vindaloo is a standout and definitely brings it.
