“An excellent little distillery adjacent to a beautiful river outlook. The location of this spot is very special - in the fall, you can sit outside and watch birds and deer use the river, enjoy the beautiful foliage as this is tucked into the forest. It’s also right between a bunch of similar businesses on a mini winery and cidery crawl - Bruysnwick and Whitecliff wineries as well as angry orchard cidery sit within 10-15 minutes of this spot. They have a food truck that offers tacos while we were there, and if it’s too cold or crowded the indoor bar is wonderful and has an old pub feel with local art on the wall.

Tuthilltown is apparently New York’s first legal distillery - they sell recognizable bottles of rye and bourbon you will see throughout New York, but have a couple of distillery exclusives that can only be bought here. Overall we found the bourbons and ryes a mixed bag - some good, some bad. A couple were incredible and we took some of the samples home as well. If you’re in a group and want to make a purchase of a bottle, a great option is the tasting kit - at $20 for 6 tasters, it’s a great, cost effective way of trying things out before you buy them. I can’t recommend this spot strongly enough, I’ll definitely be back to try some cocktails and more bourbons!“

“Do not judge this place based on solely on what angry orchard releases commercially. This is where they work on their upscale and experimental ciders. As such you will find something for every palette here: sweet, dry, barrel aged, rose,… you name it, they’ve tried it.

I am especially fond of their wooden sleeper series and look forward to the release events for each of the annual verities (wassail especially).

It’s difficult to recommend food as the offerings are always changing, but you can count on getting something to eat weather from their kitchen or a visiting food truck or a local pop-up.

They often have fun events and live music. Make sure to check their website before visiting to see if there is an event going that you’d like to participate in. I’ve see new release events, cider float events, ugly sweater party’s, apple blossom festivals, Kentucky derby viewing events, themed trivia events, board game nights, and so much more.“

“Okay... first of all - I ordered for take-out and my husband is lucky this food even made it home. The car smelled so good, I wanted to pull over to eat it right there. Both the chowder and stuffed clams had big, tasty pieces of clam. I got the Mac & Cheese with garlic shrimp - there were no less than 20 pieces of roasted cloves which were sweet and delicious. The shrimp was completely deveined and tender. My husband thought the stuffed clams were a little salty, I thought they were perfect, so do what you want with that. I am verily looking forward to my next visit.“

“Such an amazing afternoon at Minards with friends! We came with our 7 (combined) kids - who are 3-14 years old- And seriously, every single one of the kids had a blast, as did the parents! It’s a great set up for your kids to play while the grownups hang out nearby hand can enjoy a beverage or two. Angie and Jason were WONDERFUL hosts - which is kind of wild because my assumption is that the owners would generally oversee from some sort of ivory tower, but nope! They are right there “in it” with all the customers visiting for the day. I won’t lie- I love it and they are awesome people. My 7 year old is currently directing me to give them a 10 star review and is NOT happy that 5 is the max amount allowed. The parking lot was full of lots of jersey and Pennsylvania plates and that’s awesome- but more locals need to come spend a day here because it was an awesome experience for all! Also worth noting- I know places like this can be incredibly overwhelming for kids who may be neurodiverse and not thrilled with sensory overload. If you do come and try a day hanging out here- look for Angie (Incredibly friendly, very pretty blonde - can’t miss her!) and introduce her to your little one. Her whole background is in taking care of kiddos just like yours and she’s like a sorcerer with making them feel comfortable and not overwhelmed! “Prying yourself off of the main strip in New Paltz, The Parish restaurant shows that the back streets have something to offer as well.
To the left side of Main Street as you're heading out of town, right before you get to the old bridge, you'll see a little area that's called The Water Street Market. Making your way past all the various shops along the way, you will find The Parish upstairs overlooking the area. There is also a small parking lot for The Water Street Market in the very back. If you take the side roads and you're lucky, you may be able to find a parking spot there.
We started our lunch with The Hush Puppies and Gator Bites. The Hush Puppies were golden brown, crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The Honey butter was a nice compliment, adding that smooth creaminess and making them a warm delicious treat. The Gator Bites had a crisp outside batter with a little flavor kick from some Cajun spices. The remoulade dipping sauce was a nice pairing for the bites with that texture and flavor that only Gator has.
For our main dishes we had the Jambalaya and the Parish Burger with the side salad. The Jambalaya had a little spicy warmth to bring to the mix with the chicken and Andouille Sausage doing their part for flavor. The Parish Burger with the poblano peppers, onions, and cheese was superb. The aioli really helped to bring forward and meld all the flavors together including the juices of the perfectly cooked hamburger. Each bite added to the enjoyment. The salad having been tossed in a vinaigrette rested on the same plate making a pleasant addition.
For dessert we had the Blueberry Cheesecake. It was moderate in density with just the right amount of blueberry on it. The whipped cream with the fresh blueberries and drizzle of caramel was a nice touch of added freshness.
To surmise, The Parish with its Cajun vibe is a cozy little nook away from the hustle and bustle of the main strip.

“I booked a private event for my wife's surprise birthday party. I live in another state, so it would have been very hard to get there and plan nitty gritty details. The staff planned everything from the tent, food, and setup. This took a lot off my mind.

I really recommend this place for events big and small. The atmosphere and food can't be beat, and my wife has assured me that she has never had a nicer birthday party. Highly recommended for unorthodox surprise parties, if that's what you're looking to do.
