“Came here for my birthday dinner on monday night with two friends. Having a culinary background. I always enjoy trying places with fresh, unique, seasonal menus. Not only was this restaurant all of the above but they actually changed their menu daily. The flavor profile of each dish was perfectly balanced and unique. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection. The service was also top notch. Our server, the hostess and everyone who passed our table was extremely accommodating. This was an amazing experience and I'm so happy I got to do it for my birthday. I highly, highly recommend going here.“

West Kill Brewing Brewery • $$
2173 Spruceton Rd, West Kill - 7.47 miles

“Absolutely love coming here. Truly one of our favorite breweries ever - mountain views, friendly staff and patrons, music playing, fire pit, dogs, great beer - you really can't beat it. We almost didn't come here at first because it was out of the way from where we were, but so glad we did - it's 100% worth it to make the trip! The food trucks there are always fantastic too - just check their IG or website to see what time they leave (we missed them one time when we came later in the day, our fault). Added bonus is the brewery's merch is great - we typically don't buy brewery merch but their designs are awesome (and good quality too - have been wearing my orange and black West Kill beanie for years!).“

“Stoped in at Jagerberg for Après-ski brunch - lunch. Opened with a Hofbrau Dunkel which hit the spot. Dark amber and flavorful. I then ordered the Frickadellen which is there take on a German burger of sorts. Ground beef and pork patty with cheese, mustard, horse radish and pickle served on a pretzel roll with a side of German potato salad. It definitely had a German flair and I really liked it. All in all it was an excellent experience. My only knock is that the menu was quite limited and didn't include very many German staples. While working up an appetite skiing I was looking forward to having a brat or two and perhaps a knockwurst. None were on the menu. Perhaps it was just the day I was there? Even so, I had an excellent experience and will definitely drop in again the next time I'm in Hunter. Oh, I sat at the bar and the service was on point. The ambiance is pretty basic. The decor is somewhat German but not over the top.“

“What a hidden gem. Cozy, warm, speakeasy-ish. Staff is incredibly attentive and knowledgeable. Innovative cocktail program and delicious food. Can't wait to come back in the fall and experience the grounds, but even on a rainy night in February, it was the perfect place to cozy up on a worn leather sofa by the wood burning fireplace with a deck of cards.“

“This one goes out to anyone who would genuinely enjoy a low-key meal with inexpensive prices at that! Think log cabin feel, comforting food and super nice service- sitting directly on Route 28 in Shandanken. JRocco's accommodated us in no time. And since it had just stopped raining buckets and the weather was crisp out, coming here about 15ish minutes from where we're at, seemed fine for dinner. Even calling ahead of time to find out what time their kitchen closes, was cordial. I had a feeling we'd be in good hands. Gravel parking lot is big and so is Rocco's. Sizable bar on right and dining room to the left. Just look at their large upright blackboard listing their menu items and order before sitting(?). Our server who tripled as that, bartender AND helping in the kitchen mentioned we can sit down and order from the table because it wasn't so busy. I honestly took a picture of another blackboard resting on the floor and dissected the menu from our seats comfortably. 'Steakhouse' is in their description- but the look is farm from it- lumberjack design is better off. The music in the background sounded like Bluegrass and didn't intrude. We started with the mozzarella triangles that had major melt factor. Not extravagant- but they were gooey alright. Hubs ordered a NY Strip in Medium and loved it more than a steak he had the night before! He'd mentioned the steak at Rocco's had tons of flavor and the char cinched everything. My Black Bean Burger was delicious with a wonderful heat kick in the end. The pepper jack cheese (as my selection) didn't melt- but that's alright- because the flavor was all there. And if that wasn't enough, tater tots sealed the deal in my dish. And their cocktails? Don't be fooled by Rocco's appearance- they were nicely done- especially the 2 Lemon Drops I had. They don't have a 'cocktail menu'- so come prepare and know what you want. A Lemon Drop is classic and our server knew it- just don't come in with an artisanal list of cocktails and expect a entire lab process. The reviews are 100% correct: the service is beyond incredible and so pleasant. The food? Wholesome and so tasty. This isn't high-end whatsoever- J Rocco's is about minimum fuss and maximum satisfaction.“

Colonial Inn Pet Friendly • $
305 Main St, Pine Hill - 5.45 miles

“This hotel can be compared to…… hmmm….. nothing!!! There’s no place like the colonial! Hotels like this don’t exist anymore and I would give this place 10 stars if I could.Colonial is an experience. It’s a hoarded up, unique, eccentric grandpa vibe inn with just about everything you don’t want to see in a modern hotel. Ceiling water stains, creaky floors, spider webs, wobbly beds, ripped rugs and you name it…. They have it. However…. Where you need it clean…. It’s cleaner than you could do it yourself. And yet…. My 5 star, all inclusive, resort loving, spoiled self would stay there every other weekend if I could. This place is run by the most loving, warm and non judgmental people you’ve ever met. You are family there and these people don’t care who you are and what you’ve got. They will buy you drinks ( mini beers - local shot that cures complaining) or make you get your own if the bartender isn’t there. They will act as if you’re their long lost friend and serve you breakfast, that you will eat whether you like it or not.We stayed in room number#28, which was right next to room #11, because you know….. the colonial. WiFi worked great, shower was warm, room was hot, bed sheets were clean and mattress was butter soft.Book over the phone, pay cash, tip everyone and chat with the locals!!!“

“Its going to sound funny, but its true- dinner and drinks at this place was easily the highlight of our ski trip this weekend. The mac and cheese with pulled pork was absolutely delicious! Probably the best mac and cheese I've ever had. The drinks were great and prices were fair. Special shoutout to the bartender and manager who were beyond kind and accomodating. If youre looking for a great spot to walk to from the hunter mountain area please move this one to the top of your list!“
