“I'll try to keep this to the point —

I gave Food/Service/Atmosphere 5 🌟 because they were on par for me. For a local spot, this really took me by surprise.

What I ordered:

Miso Soup:
Standard Miso Soup, nothing groundbreaking, but very tasty. Would have loved a tad more tofu & scallion, but that's just me.

Salmon Avocado Hand roll:
Not the hand roll I expected meaning it wasn't in the cone shape I'm familiar with, but it came presented like a taco with the seaweed as the shell. Salmon cuts were huge, and with great colour, avocado was bright & ripe, coupled with the perfect amount of rice. Everything tasted clean, and fresh.

Yellowtail Jalapeno Nigiri:
I messed up with this, originally I wanted a sushi roll, but my brain flubbed. Great mistake though, because the yellowtail was delicious, practically melted in my mouth, topped with a delicate cut of jalapeno on top.

Love Milk Tea:
Honestly, just a really delicious milk tea topped with osmanthus flower. It was light, refreshing, and not too sweet thankfully.

Wagyu Tataki:
Tataki is meant to be briefly seared on the outside, but the center remains raw. Was this seared to the degree I wanted? No. But, was it delicious? Yes. And the meat was incredibly tender, flavour of the sauces really complimented everything on the plate.

I finished off with a matcha cheesecake to go, I'm sure it'll be good.

With tip, I spent $67

Again, for a local spot in Richmond Hill/Kew Gardens, I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied. Personally, with slight adjustments, these folks would do great in midtown. I spent a little under what I would spend at a restaurant in the city, and got an incredibly satisfying meal, and left full.“

“My wife and I had a great experience at Masaaki and truly enjoyed almost everything about it. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the space was clean and thoughtfully designed, and the overall vibe made it a great place to enjoy a meal.

The food was outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was perfect and clearly made with quality ingredients. We especially enjoyed the yaki oysters.

Service once we were seated was excellent. Our servers were attentive, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the meal.

The only downside was the experience with the front desk host. At the beginning and as we were leaving, there was no smile, no greeting and no “bye.” That lack of warmth really stood out, especially since everything else in the restaurant was handled so well. It felt unwelcoming and unprofessional and took away from what was otherwise a near-perfect visit.

Overall, the experience was almost perfect. I would absolutely return and recommend this restaurant, and with a more welcoming presence at the front desk, it would easily deserve a full 5-star rating.“

“This was some of the best street food I’ve come across in NYC, from this restaurant’s food truck stand outside of the World Trade Center. “Abi has been my go-to Japanese in Astoria for nearly 10 years. They have hands down, THE best veg udon soup I've ever had. My partner and i order it regularly along with any of their many incredible vegan rolls. I wish they would label everything that's vegan as vegan, because they have an honestly impressive amount of options, and it's literally ALL good. Tofu nuggets, sweet potato, pumpkin, oh my... Their haru maki rolls are also vegan, and absolutely delicious.

“I had the chirashi bowl and got fresh piece of tuna and amberjack sashimi grade along with a ponzu sauce that one of the ladies kindly suggested. The service was not only kind and calm but with a welcoming attitude making me feel at home. The ladies who were restocking the cuts of fish were excellent and you can tell they were masters of creating, not only with presentation and the balance of the ingredients but checking on the quality of the stuff they are selling.

“I was a little confused by the bad ratings. Then I saw it was mostly people complaining of random things that had nothing to do with the food. So here it goes: I had a dinner box and everything was delicious. Also it came with miso, tempura, rolls, rice and shumai. For the price? Absolutely a great deal“
