“Had a fantastic dinner at Masaaki in Bayside. The $138/17-course menu is a steal – beautifully designed, great ingredients for the price. Highlights: bluefin tuna, seasonal firefly squid, and three rounds of premium Japanese sea urchin (my boyfriend was thrilled). The sushi progression makes sense, and the gold-leaf tuna with edible glitter spray is a fun touch. The chef is Chinese and super friendly – gave us great tips on handling fish. Much better than schlepping into Manhattan. Highly recommend if you’re nearby!“

“It was a wonderful experience , considering it is my first time. We had to wait a few minutes to get our table for 4 but that’s okay! The employees were super nice and went out of their way to pull and extra table for us. I loved the authentic atmosphere. The lighting, decor, and the overall feeling of the restaurant was great! And amazing food. My family loved what we ordered and the matcha cheesecake for dessert was so good! Compliments to the chef! “I’ve had sushi all over America, and this is a top contender amongst the best I’ve had. The menu is on the simpler side, but don’t let that detract you from the absolute quality they deliver. The sushi rolls are larger than typical and priced very reasonable for what you get. Plus they serve warm sushi rice which not many places outside of Los Angeles do.“

The menu is small but thoughtfully put together, and everything feels fresh. The handroll sushi is especially great and definitely worth trying. “Okay, I fell in love with this spot tonight. We were looking for a place to watch the Knicks game and they had a giant TV and were playing it inside the restaurant. The owners were watching it too as they are big fans and the energy was so good, we ended up staying there until the end. We also ordered the katsu that came with dumplings and a lil avocado salad and the veggie fried rice. The food was delicious and fresh and I could tell it had been prepared with attention. The owners are Japanese/Peruvian so you know the food is excellent.“

“I love sushi, and the food at this restaurant is very good. The ingredients are also very fresh. The most important thing to eat Japanese food is the freshness of the ingredients. Especially raw food. The sushi at this restaurant is quite delicious. The combination of soy sauce and rice, in addition to fresh ingredients. It is simply delicious. “I'd recommend this place ... sort of. We chose to sit on the dining side since it was only two of us and didn't want the "show". The service was friendly and good but not overly attentive. Our drinks were very good and a fair price (we had the Oceanside Zombie but without the Sprite added). We both ordered the hibachi surf and turf (lobster and filet mignon) which came with a house salad and clear soup, both of which we really enjoyed. The filet was tasty but the pieces were cut very unevenly so some pieces were medium rare and others were close to well done. The lobster tail was very small and too salty. I would not order it again. I was completely disappointed that the veggies were drowning in teriyaki sauce. There was no indication on the menu that they are served in sauce. I typically love hibachi vegetables but I hate teriyaki sauce! They reminded me more of Chinese takeout vegetables than Japanese hibachi. The fried rice was good but not the best. It came with lots of peas and I hate peas. Another disappointment but not a surprise was they don't offer hibachi mustard sauce. Like so many other places these days they offer yum yum sauce instead which we refused because, yuck yuck. They offered us some ice cream on the house (I think because the server knew I was very disappointed about the teriyaki sauce). It came to the table in little plastic cafeteria style cups with the pull back paper top. LOL. I'm glad it did though because the top listed the ingredients and let's just say, we immediately sent the ice cream back. All in all, not the greatest hibachi experience but also not the worst. I would maybe go back for drinks and try some other menu items ... and hold the teriyaki sauce!“

“This spot is a neighborhood GEM. I hope the people living here know this. Best Sushi and sashimi for miles around. Solid everytime. The fish is kept well and served well. The whole family works here and they are so nice and friendly. The dad who is the sushi chef has one of the fastest hands around. He just cranks the orders out like butter. The store has about 6 tables but they are never packed. But while I dine in the takeout orders are endless. This man can handle it all and still can chat with you.I wish I lived nearby.... My kids love the chicken teriyaki over noodles or white rice, although I find that the noodles can be a bit dry and in need of more sauce at times. We’ve tried the chicken combination with other proteins as well and they were also delicious. Can’t beat the price either! Definitely getting a bang for your buck. They also sell sushi, but we have not been brave enough to try them.“
