“This is such a hidden gem in Dayton. We were in Dayton a week and almost missed it. We had a very delicious vegan BBQ pulled pork sandwich and their Mac and Cheese was amazing! Highly recommend this place if you are vegan or not. Can’t even tell it is Vegan! Great job!Vegetarian options: 100% Vegan options!Dietary restrictions: Everything is Vegan and they were even very careful to not include any nuts in the items we purchased for those who are allergic.Parking: The parking we saw was just right next to the building and had plenty of spaces on a week day.Kid-friendliness: The food here is kid friendly and very good!“

“So we then decided to give Butter Café a try since it was close by and I had never been. It’s a small establishment and there was a little bit of a wait, however we were able to get seated. At first glance of the menu, there was a wide array of dishes that also included vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-friendly. There were so many things that sounded good, it was actually hard for me to choose (not vegan or gluten-friendly of course). Friend one had been to Butter Café before but unfortunately did not enjoy the food. However, friend one was willing to give it another chance and this time went with the “Just Egg” omelette with caramelized onions and spinach, a side of the breakfast potatoes, and coffee. I discovered the previous day that friend one likes the coffee to be tongue burning hot. This however was not. It was good, but not nearly hot enough. Friend one enjoyed the omelette but felt it was a little too oily, perhaps from the onions that could have been caramelized a little more. The breakfast potatoes were nice w/ the crunchy bits, however lacked salt and pepper. You could see that there were herbs in the potatoes, however, you could not taste them.  Friend two ordered the Paris omelette that included mushrooms, caramelized onions, and goat cheese, with a side of the breakfast potatoes. Friend two added spinach and bacon to the omelette which brought back memories of an omelette that was enjoyed in years past. The buttermilk pancake was sounding good as well, so one pancake was ordered, which was the size of the plate it was served on, 8-9 inches if I were to guess. When asked, “how was the pancake?” I was told, and I quote, “This pancake is life.” Friend one also ordered a lavender mimosa which was enjoyed while trying to guess what type of champagne was used.  As for me, there were many choices, but I decided to also get the lavender mimosa and I have to say, it was the best mimosa I have ever had…..quite tasty. Probably b/c the champagne they used was not very dry. The lavender syrup was not overly floral tasting. The mimosa overall had a sweet taste that I enjoyed. I couldn’t make up my mind, so I decided to try a half order of the Chai French toast layered w/ mascarpone cheese. It was very good. The mascarpone was slightly sweet, which meant I did not need a lot of syrup. I was afraid that the chai spices might be overpowering, but there was only a hint of chai, which was great.Unfortunately, unlike the omelettes, the French toast did not come w/ any sides. My two pieces were looking pretty lonely on the plate. As I tried to bring forth a single tear so that my friends would take pity on me, I did something INEVER, EVER do for the purposes of these reviews, and that is try what someone else has on their plate. But since friend one had too many potatoes, most were put on my plate. I appreciated that they were more like smashed potatoes, but they were seriously lacking seasoning despite the visible herbs. Once I doctored them up w/ salt and pepper, they were really good. I also tried some of the pancake and for me, it wasn’t life-giving, but it was really good. So bottom line, I wouldn’t mind going back again and having the same thing or something different. And I definitely have to get the lavender mimosa, or perhaps one of the other flavors.“
