“So how would I describe Big Texas? A country music bar, a dive bar, a great place for lunch? I'd say all of the above. I hear they have great live music on weekends. The look of the interior and the locals all hanging out on the front deck both give the dive bar feel. Add to this the great lunch we had, and it's a combination. I had lunch with a few friends. The menu isn't huge. Just enough choices plus daily specials. All sandwiches came with cole slaw and fries, though I didn't see that mentioned on the menu. I ordered the fish and chips. Also at my table was BBQ chicken, corned beef, and the Canadian bacon special. My fish had a crunchy exterior over nice flakey fish. The fries appeared to be fresh cut. I'd have to say the cole slaw was different, in a good way. The cabbage was very thinly shaved with a light dressing and topped with tomato & pepper slices. Overall, the food and service were both good. Also, keep in mind if going there from the US that these are Canadian prices. Very reasonable! Final note. Check the top of the building out front. Might bring back memories for some. Remember King Edward?! :) 2923-92“

“We tried this spot for the first time, and it was delicious. The food was so fresh! The crab cakes are definitely a must try along with the stuffed peppers! ? they both were dishes that were unique and had their own kick to it. The grilled fish tacos were also a healthy, tasty option as well. Edit: My only recommendation is to go when the chefs are present and serving, if you are going for their food.“

Grab a fresh glass and select and pour your own brew choice - whether an ounce or a full glass. A selection of wines and hard ciders were also available. The Merry Shelley Bar • $
1122 Hertel Ave, Buffalo - 6.22 miles

“By far one of the coolest bars in Buffalo! I've been wanting to stop by for awhile and was thrilled to finally be in the area and have some free time. I was pleased to find a tiny gothic literary themed spot with amazing and interesting drinks. You might have to be patient when ordering or getting a seat but it's well worth the it. This spot is decorated to the nines with Halloween-ish, gothic, spooky stuff and it's fun to check it all out. We tried the tepache which was alcohol made from a fermented pineapple and the watchdog cocktail. The tepache was super interesting and new to us. Was very sweet and pineapple-y. The watchdog was perfect for a cold dark night. It warmed me up and had hints of orange. Lots of neat and different kinds of drinks here and some bar snacks as well if you are hungry. Bartender was friendly and helpful with menu questions. They also serve absinthe and it's fun to watch them put it together. I also learned that this place serves as a community library. There are books all over and you are welcome to take or borrow some to read. They also make it clear they are LGBTQ+ friendly so all are welcome to come and enjoy.“

“The place has lots of cool Buffalo sports memorabilia. Lots of pic and jerseys lining the walls. Our server was so friendly and sweet. We split a few things since it was out 1st time here. Everything was served piping hot. The pickle chips were crispy and crunchy, with a nice dipping sauce, a little spicy but all tasty. The fries were cooked the way fries should be. Crispy outside, mashed potato like inside. The gravy served on the side was not very good. It was clumpy and not very tasty. The pulled pork(recommended by our fabulous server) was delicious, but I bit into a bone that damn near knocked my crown off. The server was very apologetic, and they even removed the sandwich from the check. (kind gesture that not a lot of places would do) The roast beef was good, but it was a bit overcooked for my taste. We really liked the atmosphere and the service, so we'll definitely return. You can't be perfect every day.“

“The exact embodiment of an Irish Pub you'd imagine if someone asked you to think of the ideal Irish pub, except without the stereotype redhead with green eyes at the door. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Food was decent, drinks served fast, and probably the best spot to take a date on Saint Paddy's (which I failed to do).Edit to add: each time I've been by here, Megan has been hostess/server. She's great! Instantly personable, relatable, a delight. If you can afford to spend a bit, the Banshee is really the best little spot to hang out. The charm of the space, and the staff, makes each visit deeply satisfying.Parking: There are a number of paid parking lots and paid parking garages in the area, but it's smack in the middle of downtown, so expect to pay for your time there. Ride services and cabs are ideal anyway, to prevent bad judgement after a few pints. To be honest, parking right in front of the building on Franklin St is *supposed* to be city street parking with meters, but some ppl have said they park there constantly and never pay anything (at least not in the afternoon/evening). Your call if you want to risk it. You can also pay $30 for the lot next door, if you really need some peace of mind.Wheelchair accessibility: Although the upper floors won't be accessible, the ground floor doors are accessibly wide and swing light on their hinges. The bathrooms can be a little snug to get thru the doors, but there are of course accessible stalls when thru those.“

Each and every one of us absolutely loved and raved over our meals and drinks. Some of the freshest oysters and a delicious meatball to start our night, with espresso martini's and wine. I had the pork chop special with pear chutney and WOW, the biggest and moist cut of pork I've had with an amazing flavor profile. I had the fruit cookie for dessert and it was absolutely divine. Our server, Amanda, was so friendly and helpful, suggesting apps, working with my friend to find the perfect red wine for her, and even humoring my other friend to pick a meal and surprise her- and she picked well! Good service makes all the difference and we can't say enough about her and the atmosphere here. But I was with my mom and I didn’t want to disappoint her, so decided to stick with this place and see how the food was. We got the pork trilogy, which is basically Sunday sauce, the flavor of the meat was good it just needed more salt. We also got the special pizza which was sopresatta, that was very yummy. We got the burrata salad appetizer, which was my mom’s favorite, it was interesting and pretty good. I’ve never had burrata with roasted apples under it, but I would eat it again. We finished with creme brulee because it’s our favorite and it was great. Our server was kind of standoffish. All in all this was a decent experience but it left a little to be desired.“

“I fear leaving this review because I don't want the place ruined I loved it so much. Step back in time without all the pretension to a classic hometown bar. The owner Greg was bartending and filled us in on the history of the place having closed in the 80s until he opened up in the 2000s. There's no having to pretend to be old timey, the vinyl on the bar, the stools, and the walls covered in Utica Club and Schlitz is authentic to the place. We went for the Tom & Jerry's and I have to say they are one of the best in town, unlike a lot of places though they aren't pushing out big batches of the batter so you want to get there early to make sure you don't miss out! They serve them until new years. We weren't there long before the friendly patrons offered to get us a shot, everyone was so inviting and made us feel so welcome. Greg too. We plan to make it a regular stop even outside Tom and Jerry season!“

“Old school bar for the locals with plenty of fair. Insane amount of TVs for watching fames. It is a huge but small Bills bar. Drinks are super cheap but CASH ONLY. 2 entrances front and back and parking is simple. Short menu did not eat here. Definitely a besk kept secret and the patrons are friendly as ever.“

“I was very surprised to see the ratings for this place! This was honestly the best pollo con crema I have ever had. Sometimes with Mexican restaurants it will just be quest and chicken. But this was so flavorful with a bunch of other stuff added. The drinks were good too, definitely a little pricey. Our server was the best ever! We came on the day of the eclipse, so it was super busy. However, she was the sweetest person, and everyone at the table agreed. Since this place is right on Elmwood, I would totally come back a agin for the pollo con crema alone!“

“Vegetarian options: Ask the head chef or someone who knows the menu before you order.Kid-friendliness: It's a bar/restaurant but people have kids in there all the time, hopefully they got fed.Wheelchair accessibility: The kitchen and main bar are all on the first floors you have to make it through 2 doors, so if you're in a wheelchair hopefully someone opens the doors for you out of politeness because there are no 'automatic' doors.“

“Of course we picked a bandits game to visit this restaurant/bar. We were immediately greeted at the door and at that time the place was still not too busy. Tables were nice and clean, and some tunes playing in the place. Ordered a cheese pizza (cause what kid can say no to cheese pizza), bbq wings and some fries. Wings were perfectly cooked, great bbq sauce and the best part is they were nice and crispy. Fries, again good portion and cooked nice and crispy. That pizza though, must be cooked in a magic oven. Perfection. Probably one of the better pizzas I've had in a while. This place is not a well kept secret, so come early if there's an event going on.“

“As a middle-aged dude for whom sleep has replaced sex as the ultimate goal in life, this place has reinvigorated me. Met some friends here for drinks and had a great time. Emily the bartender was on point all night. A brilliant host, her sarcasm and wit were superior to mine, which pissed me off at first but eventually I conceded defeat. Worth every penny. Will definitely be returning as often as I can! Also, they have dart boards!“
